Chapter 42 The President's Actions
Inside the room, Ezra, still chained to a chair, had woken up and was staring at the door with a look of terror on his face.
Who just walked out?
Isn't that the town mayor?
How did the mayor end up in the dungeon?
Immediately afterwards, five figures emerged from the dungeon.
Harvey looked at Rhodes: "This is a serious reminder for you. Ezra has just regained consciousness."
Rhodes nodded.
He knew that Harvey's reminder was meant to prevent the two from disagreeing on how to handle Ezra.
Their original plan was to knock him unconscious and then rescue Paril, who had been illegally imprisoned. That way, even if they were held accountable later, they would only offend the mayor and would not have broken any town laws.
But the situation is different now.
Knowing everything, he might soon face the risk of being wanted and hunted down, and the only thing he could do was delay being discovered.
Try to leave the town first.
Ezra sensed something was wrong when he saw the way everyone was looking at him.
He said quickly, "Don't come any closer! Do you know what crime it is to kill the mayor's personal guard?"
"You bunch of ignorant lawless bastards, leave me now and I'll pretend nothing ever happened!"
As he finished speaking, Ezra suddenly broke free of his chains and charged straight at Rhodes.
Clint was closest to Rhodes and stood directly in front of him.
Ezra feinted and rushed to the cabinet behind them, pulled out a bottle of Limit Break Elixir and gulped it down.
He felt his condition improve instantly in all aspects, and a continuous stream of power surged through his body.
Everyone immediately assumed a fighting stance.
Rhodes and Harvey instinctively distanced themselves.
Evila and Clint flanked Ezra on either side.
Paril stood there in a daze when Rhodes pulled her over.
Ezra had no weapon in his hand. He stomped his feet and rammed into Clint, who seemed to be the easiest target to break through, like a cannonball.
Clint raised his long-handled axe and swung it horizontally.
But Ezra was an elite warrior, and with the added boost of the elixir, his speed was terrifying.
He precisely gripped Clint's right wrist with his left hand, using Clint to block the ranged attacks from the others.
His right fist slammed into Clint's face with a whooshing sound.
Clint suddenly activated a blade protection spell, but even so, the immense force still caused him to stumble.
A sharp pain shot through his wrist, and the long-handled axe flew out of his hand.
Ezra grinned maliciously.
I am an elite warrior, and if I hadn't been drunk, how could I have been so easily subdued by you?
He instantly abandoned Clint and charged straight at Paril.
The effect of the elixir of breakthrough is limited; once the effect wears off, it will cause a backlash.
We must resolve this battle as quickly as possible.
Just when they were about to succeed.
Two crimson flaming arrows hurtled straight toward his face, chest, and abdomen.
Ezra dodged away.
The bard picked up a long wooden bench and began chanting a spell.
Roaring Sword!
A light suddenly shone from the wooden stool and hit him.
The Roaring Sword doesn't deal much damage, but it's enough to send a person flying.
Rhodes chanted.
In the blink of an eye, several more flaming arrows pierced through Ezra's body.
Avira swung her greatsword, drawing an arc in the air.
A flash of sword light appeared, leaving a trail of blood.
Ezra's sinister grin froze on his face, marking the end of the battle.
Clint drank the healing potion and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth: "What's our next step?"
Harvey made a quick decision: "Leave the town first."
"What?!" Clint yelled, "What about Ashe?"
Harvey made a shushing gesture: "What are you yelling about? Calm down, Clint. It's not like we're not coming back."
"The 'Black Hand' has spies all over the town. If we don't leave now, we might be met by the chairman's personal guards."
Clint reluctantly followed the crowd.
......
sunset.
Adventurers' Guild Master's Office.
Stanley picked up the steaming teacup and took a small sip.
Suddenly realizing something, I looked up at the desk.
The figure of a gray dwarf slowly emerged.
"Lord Stanley, Mayor's personal guard Ent waited near the goblin camp all afternoon but did not see Rhodes."
"Is that so?" Stanley gently placed the teacup aside and nodded calmly. "I understand."
Ever since that aristocratic brat Rhodes arrived in Phil, his troubles have been steadily increasing.
He was initially given the task of investigating petrification disease, so that he would have something to do.
I thought he was just a useless mage with mediocre talent. Even if he didn't find anything out, as the guild leader, I could just find an excuse to reward him and bring him into the Adventurers' Guild.
This can also be considered as indirectly befriending the Gilbert family.
Surprisingly, they actually managed to find some clues and, by finding a bard who appeared out of nowhere, traced the trail back to Nathan.
Nathan is tasked with the arduous mission of refining petrification potions and must remain undetected.
But he couldn't lay a hand on Rhodes in the town, as that would surely incur the wrath of his father, the Marquis Gilbert.
So when they learned that they were going to investigate Rot Tongue Hagra, they sent "Black Hand" ahead of time to deliver a pair of high-quality puppet heavy armor.
Hopefully, we can use the witch's power to get rid of this troublesome kid, and then we can also send troops to surround and annihilate him.
But who would have thought that this hastily assembled team would actually be able to kill Corrupted Tongue?
Even more outrageous, they infiltrated the underground network and destroyed the petrification potion that Nathan had spent a long time crafting.
So he sent men to capture his companions and provided clues about the goblin camp.
Even if the carefully selected team fails to ambush them near the camp, they won't suspect him. In fact, if he finds out something later, he'll have an extra bargaining chip.
But Rhodes didn't even go to the goblin camp.
Did I misjudge?
This kid doesn't actually care about that silver-haired priest as much as I thought?
Stanley drank the tea in one gulp.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a little irritated.
If Rhodes is still investigating the petrification disease, he might as well have Cassandra post bounties in other towns and find a mid-level assassin to take him down when he leaves town.
That's how the plan was made.
An urgent call rang out at the door: "Lord Stanley! Lord Stanley!"
"Come in," Stanley said slowly.
"The mayor's personal guard, Ezra, is dead!"
"What?!" Even Stanley's composure changed.
"What about the seal? Has the seal in the basement been damaged?"
"My lord," the guard who came to report said in a somewhat panicked manner, "the seal... the seal has been broken."
In a short time.
The guard felt as if the room had frozen, and he could hardly breathe.
A moment later, Chairman Stanley spoke with barely suppressed anger: "Get out."
The guards, as if granted a pardon, hurriedly bowed and ran out of the room.
Stanley thought for a moment, then nimbly flipped himself out of the window.
Head straight to the nearest underground network entrance.
