The night of the planned attack arrived.

Rhodes arrived at the south gate of the town.

The jagged crack in the city wall has been repaired, and the patterns of the magic array are now shining brightly on the wall from time to time.

Five figures were standing right below the wall.

Seeing that he was the last one, Rhodes quickened his pace and came to greet everyone.

Vanessa nodded and briefly introduced the members:

"You've already met the elite-level archer Kelda and the elite-level druid Krud."

Kelda raised her chin in greeting, while Krud gave a friendly smile.

She spoke quickly and gestured to the other two members:

"This is Jet, an elite monk."

Jet, dressed in a simple cloth robe that revealed his strong arms and calves, nodded to Rhodes.

"This is Kleia, also a mage."

Claire was a woman who looked to be in her early forties. She glanced at Rhodes and then looked away without paying much attention.

Once everyone had gathered, Vanessa began distributing invisibility potions: "This operation is primarily an infiltration and assassination mission; the target is only the goblin leader, Zarido."

"From now on, everyone must follow my orders and not linger in combat. Ensure your own safety while completing the assassination mission."

"I can handle Zarido by myself. You five are responsible for holding off all interference and aiming for a quick kill. Any questions?"

The crowd shook their heads.

"Very good, let's go!"

At Vanessa's command, Krud brought two horses, which pulled a carriage large enough to hold six people.

Inside the carriage, Druid Krud, monk Jet, and warrior Kelda chatted and laughed.

Vanessa sat facing the car door, closing her eyes to rest.

Rhodes and the mage Clya sat facing each other.

Claire frowned as she examined the Fire Spirit Ring on Rhodes's hand.

"Did you buy this ring?"

"Do you recognize this ring?" Rhodes asked in return.

Seeing that Rhodes answered questions with questions, Claire's face showed impatience. Unwilling to say anything more, she simply followed Vanessa's example and closed her eyes to rest.

She couldn't accept that this young man, who looked like he had just come of age, was actually an elite-level mage like herself.

He began learning magic at a young age, and at the age of eighteen, he entered a magic academy in the north to study. It took him two years to become a senior mage.

He then became a mercenary, making a living by wandering around, until he was over forty years old when he was barely rated as an elite mage and joined the guard of Phil Town, enjoying generous treatment.

After so many years of hard work, why should this newly-adventured mage be able to stand on equal footing with me, and even participate in operations of this level?

Rhodes didn't know why the old lady disliked him and didn't care much.

The carriage sped along under the cover of night.

About three hours later, Vanessa, who was sitting upright, suddenly opened her eyes: "Get out of the car."

Her command was simple and forceful, and Jet, Kelda, and Krud jumped off the carriage, followed by Rhodes and Claire.

Vanessa finally jumped off the carriage and drew two curved swords: "From now on, we will drink invisibility potions and sneak over. No one is allowed to act without my order."

Everyone entered a state of invisibility.

Less than half an hour into their journey, the faint glow of torches appeared ahead, and the outline of the goblin camp came into view in the darkness.

This is an open-air campsite built of gray-brown boulders.

The entire camp was situated in a huge depression, which looked like it used to be an abandoned quarry.

At the entrance to the camp was a simple watchtower built of rough wood, with grease torches burning on top. Below the watchtower was a straight and wide stone staircase leading to the camp's huge wooden gate.

"Each of the two watchtowers has a goblin guard, and there are no patrols at the foot of the watchtowers," reported the magic archer Kelda.

"Find an opening on the side and go around it, without alerting any goblins," Vanessa ordered.

The objective of this operation was to assassinate Zarido, and a quiet infiltration was the primary prerequisite.

"You can go down to the south of the camp; there are no goblins guarding it," Kelda whispered.

Vanessa looked up slightly, approved of the plan, and gestured to the monk Jet.

Jeter understood immediately, and with a simple flip, he lightly leaped down the slope and quickly reached the bottom.

Seeing his signal that it was safe, everyone followed Vanessa and slid down the slope quietly.

The ground below the slope was a mixture of gravel and bone fragments, making it quite uncomfortable to walk on.

The group arrived at the edge of the stone wall of the camp.

The stone wall was about three stories high. Considering the average physical ability of the team, Vanessa gave up the idea of climbing over the high wall and instead chose to enter through the side door along the stone wall.

Rhodes moved close to the gray-brown stone wall behind him, while calculating how far Avira was from here.

Concerned that Vanessa might have some kind of reconnaissance methods, he had instructed Avira in advance to keep her distance from the team.

If today's mission goes smoothly, Avira should observe the edge of the camp before retreating, avoiding any potential danger.

"stop!"

Vanessa's voice was so low that it was difficult to hear in the noisy goblin camp.

She gestured for everyone to hide in the shadows beneath the stone wall.

Not far ahead was the side gate of the camp. The side gate was several sizes smaller than the main gate and was currently open, with the light of torches shining out from inside.

Just then, a black rat crawled out from a crack in the stone wall and climbed up the uneven surface of the wall to Krud's shoulder.

Krud tilted his head slightly and spoke softly.

After a moment, he addressed Vanessa: "It's safe behind the door. There are two drunken goblins dozing off with their backs to us ten steps behind the corner."

"The goblin leader is located underground."

The group moved again, this time with the highly perceptive Krud leading the way, while the noisy chatter of goblins drinking and eating around the campfire filled the air.

They quickly passed through the chaotic area.

"On the left side ahead, behind the abandoned slag heap, there's an entrance leading underground," Krud said, his nose twitching a few times, his expression grim.

"The smell is strong, and there must be a lot of other goblins besides the goblin leader."

"Forward!" Vanessa continued to give orders, waving her hand to signal the team to speed up.

Upon entering the underground passage, one finds a long, narrow tunnel where braziers burn brightly.

There were no goblins guarding the passage.

The stench in the air made everyone uncomfortable, especially judging from Krud's pained expression, who was clearly trying to suppress his nausea.

Vanessa walked to the front of the line again.

"An Eye of Insight has been spotted ahead," Kelda, who was in second place, suddenly warned.

Then everyone saw a blue-purple sphere floating around in the distance, moving erratically.

The Eye of Detection is a non-living unit that patrols around the area. It is not offensive and its main functions include reconnaissance, anti-stealth, warning, and calling for reinforcements.

"Kelda," Vanessa called the magic archer's name briefly.

Upon hearing the sound, Kelda gently drew back the bowstring, and the arrow was aimed at the stalactite diagonally above the Eye of Insight.

"Click"

The arrow struck, and the base of the stalactite broke off and crashed next to the Eye of Insight.

The all-seeing eye turned toward the fallen rocks as if it were alive.

Just then, Vanessa appeared behind the Eye of Insight in a blur, touching the surface of the sphere with the bottom of a scimitar.

A dark light shone from the bottom of the scimitar, and the Eye of Detection burst like a bubble, turning into purple dust and dissipating without issuing a warning...
