I became the slime toy of the evil dragon girl?
Chapter 31 I've really put up with you for a long time
The air freezes.
The half-elves' expressions changed from hostility to absurdity, and some whispers began to circulate.
"A talking slime?"
"She's quite cute, but what she says is incredibly stupid."
"Purify the Fountain of Life? These monsters are really talking nonsense..."
Alvin's voice was as cold as ice.
"Are you mocking us? The corruption of the ancient tree is something even true elves cannot purify. You? A lowly slime?"
Ian remained noncommittal: "Why don't you let me go in and try? Just because others can't do it doesn't mean I can't."
The half-elves suddenly became agitated.
"Arrogant!"
"This sacred land must not be defiled by demons!"
"Elder, expel them immediately!"
Erwin raised his hand, silencing the murmurs.
He stared at Ian, his eyes sharp as knives: "What makes you so confident to make such boastful claims?"
Ian didn't answer, but instead took out a small bottle from his body, which contained the Fountain of Life that he had brought back earlier.
The half-elves' expressions changed.
They could sense the magic within the bottle, which was filled with rich life energy.
"You've come into contact with the Fountain of Life?" Erwin frowned.
Mirabelle interjected at the opportune moment.
"Elder Elwin, what harm is there in letting him try? The worst outcome is that he's just bragging. But what if... he's telling the truth? How long can the ancient tree hold on? Three months?"
Erwin clenched his fist.
He looked at the decaying giant tree behind him, and finally, he slowly loosened his fist.
"Take him to the spring. If he does anything suspicious, I will kill you."
A half-elf opened a barrier for Ian.
The half-elves stood at a distance, their nerves on edge.
The stench of decay emanating from the tree was overwhelming, making the slime nauseous.
Ian, enduring the discomfort, hopped to the tree and activated his full analysis.
The situation is a little better than expected.
Decay occupies at most a small portion of the tree body, mainly concentrated in some of the root system.
Perhaps the ancient tree of wisdom resisted on its own, and did not spread much.
However, it cannot be purified and can only watch helplessly as corruption slowly erodes itself.
Suddenly, the branches of the ancient tree swayed. Ian felt as if some obscure information had been directly inserted into his mind.
The trees can talk?
Suddenly, Ian realized that this was a special language proficiency skill that allowed him to understand dog barks and plant language to some extent.
I never expected it would come in handy here.
The information about the ancient tree was somewhat disorganized, and Ian tried hard to decipher it, but some parts remained unclear. However, the general meaning emerged, seemingly saying:
"You'll help me? You'll regret it!"
Damn it! How come I'm being threatened by a tree again?! Is there no such thing as motherhood in this world anymore?!
Ian gritted his teeth, thinking, "Fine, fine, I won't bother with a broken tree like you. If it weren't for my promotion in Dragon Territory, I would have burned you to a crisp with a breath of dragon's breath today!"
Ian was about to set off to purify the ancient tree when he leaped to the corrupted root system.
But suddenly, I heard several sounds of bowstrings being pulled taut.
One of the half-elves drew his bow, and so did the other half-elves around him, aiming at Ian.
The atmosphere suddenly became a bit tense.
"What are you trying to do?" Ian asked in a deep voice.
I don't know why things suddenly turned out this way.
To be honest, Ian was already a little angry. Being treated with such hostility was bad enough, but being mocked by the tree was even worse.
Most importantly, they were treated this way after purifying the ancient trees for them.
Should good slimes be held at gunpoint?!
Elwin suddenly walked out from the crowd, carrying a shadow fairy bound hand and foot with vines.
Yes, it really is Lilith.
Alvin slammed Lilith to the ground, a knowing look on his face.
"Why are you asking us? Monsters are definitely not to be trusted. You sneaked in and got caught..." Elwin said, stepping on Lilith's back. "Now! Get out of the Sacred Tree! Or I'll kill you all."
"Don't worry about me! This is the destiny we Shadow Families bear!" Lilith saw Ian.
Ian broke down; after all his hard work running around, the dawn of victory was just around the corner.
Perhaps the demolition will be completed today, and in a few days I will gain the Dragon Lady's trust and take command of the Dragon Territory's 100,000 troops.
They told you to stay at the camp, but you insisted on sneaking in, and what's worse, you got caught.
"Sigh..." Ian sighed.
Lilith has been by his side day and night these past few days, acting as his servant for a slime. It's impossible not to feel some kind of bond with her.
Although this might undo all the efforts I've made these past few days to relocate Sweet Forest, there might be other solutions.
Ian didn't want to be too cold-blooded and use Lilith's life to pave his own path to advancement.
Since things have come to this point, the only option is to use force to rescue them.
Ian began to prepare shadow magic, and dragon breath slowly gathered within his body, ready to save Lilith and then fight his way out of here.
Just when things were at their most critical moment.
An old voice rang out.
"Stop it, all of you."
From behind the ancient tree emerged a female half-elf elder leaning on a wooden staff.
Her hair was completely white, and her face was gaunt. "Let him do it, the ancient tree... is calling him."
The other half-elves quickly put away their weapons.
Elwin, however, did not put away the greatbow in his hand, but looked at her in shock: "Elder? This is just a disgusting historian..."
"I can feel it," the elder interrupted Elwin.
He slowly walked up to Ian, bowed slightly, and performed an ancient elven greeting: "Stranger, the ancient tree tells me... you possess the aura of life. Please... save it."
Seeing that things were turning around, Ian temporarily stopped preparing his moves.
Ian remained silent for a while, then looked at the old man bowing to him, his attitude softening slightly: "I will do my best. But please release Lilith afterward."
Purification begins.
He extended two tentacles, one probing into the soil, and the other gently touching the charred roots of the ancient tree exposed in the soil.
Ian further subdivided his gum into many fine branches, corresponding to the scattered traces of decay on the ancient tree roots.
Decay is deeply intertwined with tree tissue, almost becoming part of it.
Ian planned a swift but cruel method: a desperate measure to bring about a rebirth. Instead of stripping the tree's tissues and corrupting magic, he would devour all the infected parts in one gulp.
Then, before the ancient tree dies suddenly, sprinkle it with the purified spring of life.
This tree must be in great pain. Perhaps it is Ian’s small revenge against the tree that threatened him and the half-elf tribe.
His gelatinous body began to fluctuate violently, with golden light spots swirling wildly.
In just a few seconds, the part of the ancient tree that was in contact with Ian's body was swallowed up.
The ancient tree was quickly gnawed to pieces by Ian, and much of its underground root system was also swallowed up.
Elwin grinned maliciously and shouted, "This monster is gnawing on the sacred tree!"
As if he had finally found an opportunity, he impatiently raised his bow and arrow.
A sharp arrow flashed with a cold light, aimed at Ian, and Elwin was about to fire the fatal arrow.
A magical tentacle imbued with shadow magic emerged from the shadows beneath Elwin's feet and silently climbed up to his neck.
The moment the tentacles tightened, dragon flames ignited on them!
Ian turned around at this moment, and the light spots inside his body formed a face, like a hideous demon.
He looked at Elwin, who was struggling as he was dangled by the tentacles around his neck, and said coldly.
"I've been putting up with you for a long time... Killing you and purifying the ancient tree are not mutually exclusive."
