Wasteland Lord: Starting from Thirty Days to Live
Chapter 59 Showdown
The matter is already very clear.
Vittorio was five years old thirteen years ago, and he had a sister who was one year younger than him.
For some reason, both of them were born with a prophetic ability.
However, their father, the old count, hated this ability and even forbade the two siblings from displaying it.
Vittorio was originally rather timid, and being too young, he quickly gave up demonstrating this ability under his father's intimidation.
Perhaps this abandonment later became a psychological suggestion that continued into adulthood, causing him to completely lose this ability.
In contrast, Vittorio's sister, Lina.
Lina's prophetic abilities are far more powerful than Vittorio's.
She had accurately predicted the disaster before it occurred, but the old count and his men had just discovered the existence of gold mines on the territory.
The location of the gold mine is exactly the same as the location of the disaster predicted by Lina.
The count invested a great deal of manpower and resources in mining gold, and he would not allow any accidents to happen.
The daughter's prophecy was an accident.
The old count's solution wasn't to resolve the accident, but to resolve the issue of his daughter.
He locked his daughter up and prevented anyone from contacting her, so the prophecy could not be leaked.
His actions seem to be related to the death of the two siblings' mother.
It can be said that while that black-haired, red-eyed woman was still alive, the old count was still willing to pretend to be good to his children. But after the countess died, the old count stopped pretending altogether.
Lina was only a little over four years old when she was thrown into the dungeon, and she was imprisoned for almost a year.
A four-year-old child was cruelly treated by his father for speaking about the contents of his dream. He was locked in a dark and sunless dungeon for a whole year, and then apparently escaped because of the intervention of a cultist.
It seems that this cultist later raised him to adulthood.
At this point, Vittorio truly understood the meaning of the painting he had found in the cave.
For some reason, this younger sister did not exist in Vittorio's original memories.
Perhaps as a protective mechanism, this body selectively forgets overly dark memories of its childhood.
Vittorio opened his eyes and looked at the little girl named "Lina" opposite him.
"You deliberately showed me those things; you are Lina."
"What did you see? I don't know. I was just asking you to recall things from your childhood. What did you see, my lord?"
Lina stared with innocent eyes, blinking as if she really knew nothing.
"What is your purpose in coming here? To seek justice? I can grant your request; in fact, we are on the same side."
"That man owes me something too, and one day I'll get it back from him. If you want revenge, I can grant your wish."
Lina burst into laughter, clutching her stomach, as if she had heard a joke when she heard Vittorio's words.
"Revenge? I'm not here for such a trivial reason."
As she spoke, she suddenly tore off the human skin mask from her face, revealing her true appearance—a face that bore an eight-tenths resemblance to Vittorio.
"The identity of being a noblewoman is something I abandoned long ago."
"Now, let me formally introduce myself. I am Lina, the head of the Research Center for Level 3 Rift Monsters in the River Reef of the Abundant Soil School."
"The school of thought believes that the rifts here are induced, not randomly generated, and are of great research value. The monsters produced in them are also very distinctive."
"This was caused by the legacy of the empire, but that stupid, pig-like nobleman is still smugly regarding the gold mine as the greatest wealth here."
"It can be said that only our Fengrang School understands the greatest value of this land."
"This is my garden, and I am its gardener."
"I am now formally informing you that this place does not belong to you. If you have any objections, you can come to the Hemu Church in the North Shore Commercial Port to discuss it with me—provided you can get there alive."
As Lina spoke, she bowed to Vittorio.
He acted with impeccable manners, but his language was extremely domineering.
This is a challenge to be issued.
But that's fine too. The two weren't familiar with each other to begin with, so now that they've laid their cards on the table, they'll let their abilities speak for themselves.
However, if we disregard sentimentality and rely solely on strength, what makes her think she can move freely in and out of River Bend Fort?
As Vittorio thought this, he raised a hand, while Edmund, not far away, was already drawing his bow and nocking an arrow in the shadows.
Then an arrow was shot.
The arrow grazed Vittorio's cheek and struck Lina in the eye, sending her head snapping back.
Surprisingly, she did not die. Instead, her head slowly straightened, and she clapped her hands, her head still bearing the arrow that had pierced her skull.
"Impressive! If you were to play games, you'd definitely be the best, because you want to win more than anyone else."
"But I'm not bad either. I also really enjoy playing games, and I've never lost."
"elder brother."
Lina pronounced the word "brother" slowly and deliberately, then clapped and laughed, her whole body twitching and dancing as if she had broken down.
Vittorio frowned and took a step back, shielding Isolde in front of him.
About ten seconds later, "Lina's" convulsions became faster and faster, eventually turning into a complete disorder of her limbs that defied human anatomy.
With a loud "bang," her head exploded, and her body slumped to the ground.
Everyone was startled by this sudden turn of events, and the timid ones screamed and backed away.
Isolde went forward to examine it, and after a long while, she came to a conclusion.
"It's a stand-in, a doll; the real one isn't here."
Vittorio snorted coldly.
"You're pretty good at games too, little sister."
Isolde searched through the broken doll's body and finally found a leather note with a message inside its brain.
"There's a note inside the doll's head."
Vittorio took the note, and saw this line written on it.
"Congratulations on discovering the undercover agent. As a reward, I have a gift for you. It's in your camp, so take a look."
Vittorio crumpled the note and tossed it on the ground.
Then he spoke his mind.
"madman."
The so-called gift was not actually a bomb buried underground or anything like that; it wasn't even lethal. Yet, it was more damaging than any physical weapon, truly a cruel attack on the soul.
The gift was found very easily within a day.
It's Ethan.
When Vittorio arrived, Ethan was already lying on the ground, unconscious.
Mia kept calling Ethan's name, but Ethan couldn't answer.
"What on earth is going on?" Edmund was furious when he saw this.
Mia answered timidly, "There was a sister named Lina. She heard that Uncle Ethan liked to eat poisonous mushrooms to have dreams, so she told him that she had some 'good stuff' here. After Uncle ate her 'good stuff,' he became like this."
Vittorio turned around and opened the system, finding Ethan's status changed to: [Poisoned: Requires corresponding antidote or antidote.]
Vittorio remembered that he had found two bottles of potion in Stone Pit Village, one of which was an antidote, so he quickly found it and gave it to Ethan.
Ethan's complexion improved considerably after taking the medicine, but he remained unconscious.
The patient's condition changed to "[Comatose: Sequelae of poisoning, requires rest.]"
Vittorio should have been the angrier one about this, but Edmund was even angrier than him, which made it impossible for him to be angry.
Vittorio recalled that he had sensed something unusual about the relationship between the two before. Ethan was a rare person who was not very respectful to Edmund, and even had a somewhat rude attitude. Taking this opportunity, he couldn't help but ask out of curiosity.
Edmund paused for a moment, then began to explain.
"There's nothing I can't say. He's my wife's younger brother, which means he's my brother-in-law."
