Wasteland Lord: Starting from Thirty Days to Live
Chapter 62 The Ghost of the Parasitic Ship
The docks in Shangbu Town have been abandoned for a long time and are now covered with moss and silt, a dark, damp, and foul-smelling place.
When Vitorio led his team to this place, there weren't many monsters roaming around; in fact, it was eerily quiet.
Does that mean there wasn't a single person on the dock when the disaster struck?
They proceeded cautiously.
"Wait, can you hear singing?" someone suddenly stopped and asked.
Vittorio closed his eyes and listened carefully to what the man said, and sure enough, he heard a very delicate female singing voice.
The sound started out very soft, but then grew louder and louder.
The singing was so beautiful that he couldn't help but close his eyes to appreciate it.
Not only him, but the other men also closed their eyes, their faces showing a look of intoxication.
They all tilted their heads in confusion, looking towards the direction from which the sound came—at the end of the dock, where a row of wrecked boats stood.
Vittorio hurried to the wrecked ship, squatted down to observe the water, and felt the sound growing stronger.
The water was pitch black and completely still; looking down from here, it was impossible to see what was below.
But as Vitorio tilted his head and observed carefully, he discovered that a human face was gradually emerging from beneath the water.
Just as he was about to take a step back in surprise, the sound grew stronger and stronger.
With a splash, the face emerged from the water.
Vittorio and the man stared at each other in bewilderment.
It was an extremely beautiful human female face.
She had delicate, petite features, lake-blue eyes, and pure silver hair that hung wetly over her scalp.
She was like an elf who had strayed into the mortal world, staring curiously at Vittorio.
"You are..." Vittorio asked him unconsciously.
The beautiful head opened its mouth, but instead of a series of words, it emitted a series of songs.
As Vittorio drew closer to the beautiful face, he found the singing increasingly irresistible.
What's even more agonizing is that after only surfacing a little, the beautiful face began to retreat, as if it were shy and wanted to hide back underwater.
Vittorio then extended a hand.
"Don't go..."
Vittorio felt a strong urge to jump down.
But she still retained a sliver of reason, which told her that the water was dangerous and she couldn't jump in rashly.
Before he could convince himself, someone else jumped into the water with a "plop".
As if possessed, the man shouted "Don't go!" and plunged into the water, following the beautiful woman's face.
One second, two seconds, ten seconds, sixty seconds...
Vittorio stared at the spot where the man had jumped, and apart from a ring of bubbles, he never resurfaced.
Vittorio was filled with doubt, and just as his reason was about to regain control of his mind, the image of the beautiful woman that belonged exclusively to him resurfaced.
"come over……"
The beautiful woman's voice seemed to have a magical power; Vittorio's recently regained rationality vanished, and he could no longer resist the urge to jump.
Just as he was about to jump, a sound of a weapon being swung through the air came from behind him.
A slender sword swung fiercely at the beautiful face underwater, its indestructible force splitting it in two. The beauty's head shattered instantly, spurting out streams of black blood.
Just as Vittorio was about to shout, the dilapidated wooden ship in front of him emitted a tooth-grinding, loud, creaking sound.
An unusually loud noise came from underwater, and a huge, indistinct shadow rushed out of the water at great speed, heading towards Vittorio.
Vittorio, having trained with Edmund for some time, suddenly took a step back.
Just as he took a step back, a huge, fishy-smelling tentacle of some kind of squid swept past him less than a foot away.
And at the tip of those tentacles, like skewers of grilled meat, were skewered female heads one after another.
Vittorio turned his head and saw that many soldiers had been affected; the suddenly appearing tentacles grabbed their waists and dragged them into the water.
"A trap! It's a trap! Retreat!"
The soldiers, jolted awake, retreated hastily. The already fragile dock was wrecked by the sudden appearance of the giant underwater tentacles, turning it into a piece of driftwood floating on the water.
Vittorio, who was retreating continuously, finally got a clear look at the monster's full appearance.
It was some kind of soft-bodied river monster that lived in the boat. Its huge head was like an ill-fitting jelly, squeezed into its overly small shell, with clumps of soft flesh bulging out.
Tentacles extend from the bottom of the ship's cabin, with heads protruding from their tips.
These heads were long dead, but because of the manipulation of the tentacles, they retained their beautiful appearance and could even emit siren-like songs.
But their existence is not to add some beautiful decorations to this monster; rather, like the lanternfish in the deep sea, it is merely a means of luring and killing prey.
[Level 2 Monster: Parasitic Ship Ghost, originally a kind of sea creature that lived in the deep sea, but drifted to the dock of Commercial Town some time before the great disaster.]
When the fishermen pulled it out, it had become a rotting corpse. The curious fishermen placed it on a fishing boat.
But as disaster struck, the corpse and the ship underwent a strange fusion, and the ship became the inhabitant of the mollusk.
This monster seems to have drawn inspiration from fishermen fishing, and it keeps and stubbornly plucks one head after another from the fisherwoman's body to decorate its tentacles, which also serve as "bait" for fishing.
As an angler, he was clearly very successful.
But what caused its death? Perhaps if you peel back its tattered shell and putrid brain, you'll find a surprise.
"I thought it was a mermaid, but it's just this kind of thing, ugh..." Vittorio said with disgust.
"Well, a mermaid must first be beautiful. You can't imagine a beautiful woman living in a stinky ditch, can you?" Isolde said.
Edmund stood not far away, also soaking wet and looking quite disheveled; it seemed he had almost been caught in the crossfire as well.
As the monster appeared, the entire winding river surged with waves, and one mutated river creature after another climbed ashore.
Crabs with countless swaying insects growing on their shells, fish with two legs, and "water ghosts" whose bodies are covered in hair but still vaguely resemble humans.
Vittorio noticed that his soldiers were out of formation, so he ordered them not to engage the enemy blindly, but to retreat and regroup.
When the soldiers regrouped and set up their weapons, the monsters that had been so ferocious just moments before were no longer so terrifying.
Vittorio stood at the back, still shaken.
"Thanks to you, Isolde, if you hadn't cut that thing down with your sword, I would have been hit."
Isolde's expression was equally solemn.
"I'm not immune to that singing either, but I seem to be less affected than you guys, which is why I was able to react."
Seeing the endless stream of monsters emerging from the water, Vittorio decisively ordered a retreat.
When they returned to that three-way intersection, they were all still shaken.
Vittorio realized from the system's description that killing this thing would definitely yield good loot.
It seemed that the thing was hidden inside his head.
However, killing it now would result in the loss of many lives, and if too many lives were lost, we wouldn't be able to continue.
He didn't know what else awaited him in this simulation, so it was best to conserve his strength.
After some thought, Vittorio decided to move forward directly this time.
Next destination – business assembly area.
