Wasteland Lord: Starting from Thirty Days to Live
Chapter 68 Level 3 Monster, Griffin!
Vittorio realized what was going on, and without notifying anyone else, he turned around abruptly.
Sure enough, he saw three monsters emerge from the darkness to the south.
They even raised their claws high, opened their mouths wide, revealing a mouthful of sharp teeth.
But the moment Vittorio saw them, they stood still.
Vittorio understood everything.
"The key is not light or darkness, the key is to look!"
Vittorio restored everyone to normal and explained the mechanism behind it to them.
"Did you ever play a game called 'Red Light, Green Light' when you were kids?"
The group looked at each other, clearly unaware of the game.
Vittorio patiently began to explain.
"The so-called 'one, two, three, freeze' game is about one child standing at the front with their back to the other children."
"That child is a ghost."
"And the other children were just wooden figures."
"A ghost can keep counting down, or it can stop counting down at any time and turn its head back."
"When the ghost at the front of the other wooden figures has its back to them, they can move forward quickly."
"But once the ghost stops counting down and turns its head back, all the wooden figures must stop moving and stand still. If the ghost discovers that they have made any movement, they will 'die'."
As Vittorio explained, some people gradually came to their senses.
"In this game in the church, we are the 'ghosts,' and these statues are the 'wooden figures.'"
"As long as any eyes are on these statues, they will stop moving and stand still."
"And once their attention is diverted, they can launch an attack."
"The reason they can act with impunity in the dark is simple: because we can't see them in the dark, it's as if we're not watching them."
Leo then used a game called "Red Light, Green Light" to explain the monster's mechanics in a simple and clear way, and everyone understood everything.
However, even though we now understand the monster's mechanics, it doesn't mean all the problems are solved.
"But if we don't keep an eye on it, we won't know where the monster is, and we won't be able to attack."
"Once you look at these monsters, they become invincible again."
"So even if we know the mechanics, we still have no way to eliminate these monsters."
"Moreover, the torches will eventually all go out, and Miss Eileen's holy light cannot last long. At that time, the entire church will be plunged into darkness, and even if we want to look, we will not be able to see anything."
Edmund thought for a moment and then voiced the doubts that were on everyone's mind.
However, to everyone's surprise, Vittorio simply smiled confidently, as if he already had a plan in mind.
"It's simple, just let them see each other."
As Vittorio spoke, he dragged two stone statues from the edge of darkness and made them stand face to face.
To test whether this method was effective, he had the others turn their backs so they wouldn't look at the two statues.
The others turned their backs nervously, determined to turn around immediately if they heard any noise.
However, after they turned their backs, one second... two seconds... three seconds...
Several seconds passed, but there was no sound behind them, and no one was hurt.
"It actually worked?" A soldier stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
When they turned around, the two statues were still standing there obediently in their original poses.
They stared at each other, neither letting the other make a move.
Isolde smiled, looking at Vittorio with admiration.
Eileen, in her characteristic style, continued with dry humor and witty remarks.
"So, the real solution to this puzzle was a deep, loving gaze. Who would have thought? Love truly is all-powerful."
Now that a solution had been found, Vittorio clapped his hands, signaling everyone to get to work immediately.
"Alright, stop dawdling! Everyone, quickly drag all these statues into the light and make them all look at each other!"
So everyone sprang into action; some lured the statues close, while others dragged them in to pair them up.
Finally, all the statues had their own subjects; they originally had ferocious faces and extended claws.
But when they stood face to face, the scene became somewhat comical.
When the last and biggest culprit—the River Mother Statue—appeared before Vittorio, he did not hesitate and dragged it into the light, giving it a mate.
As all the statues were matched one by one, the lingering darkness in the entire hall dissipated.
The soldier standing at the door pushed the door open suddenly, only to find that the door, which had been completely still just moments before, now opened with a single push.
The door was suddenly pushed open, and light shone in through the thin mist.
Everyone was eager to rush out of the main door and leave the oppressive church.
Standing at the church entrance, Vittorio was still shaken.
The simulation has now reached this point, and more than half of the personnel have been depleted, but the biggest behind-the-scenes boss—Lina—has yet to appear.
It seems I won't be able to escape unscathed from this simulation.
Just as Vittorio was thinking this, a gasp suddenly came from the crowd.
Even when you turn around, you should look in the direction of everyone's exclamations.
At the top of the church, a huge griffin gracefully landed on it, flapping its wings.
On the griffin's head stood a young girl, tilting her head and gazing at Vittorio.
"Pat" "Pat" "Pat" "Pat".
She immediately started clapping.
"That was brilliant! As expected of my brother, he's so clever to have uncovered the church's secret."
"Now I truly admit that you are qualified to be my opponent."
"But the opponents you faced before were just those you could defeat using skill or intelligence. Have you ever seen a true powerhouse?"
Vittorio frowned, not understanding what he meant by a true strongman.
"It seems you don't quite understand, brother. What I mean is, if it really comes down to brute force, do you really think you're a match for the stronger opponents?"
Vittorio squinted.
"What do you mean? Are you finally going to take action yourself?"
To everyone's surprise, Lina on the roof simply shook her head and then waved her hand.
"Ghana, it seems my brother doesn't understand what a truly brutal battle is."
"You...make him come to his senses."
At Lina's command, the griffin beneath her flapped its wings and let out a long cry before falling from the rooftop and landing in front of everyone.
The griffin held its head high with pride, squinted its eyes, and surveyed the crowd like a proud warrior looking down on a weak challenger with disdain.
Vittorio opened the panel and saw the griffin's description.
[Subadult Griffin Ghana: Among the mythical creatures that soar through the skies, besides the legendary dragon, the griffin is undoubtedly the most powerful.]
Griffins are adept at controlling the wind, and even in their sub-adult stages, they possess abilities comparable to those of a level three monster.
It's unlike any monster you've encountered before; it's a true king of the skies, a true powerhouse!
And you are the challenger!
Griffin, a level 3 monster!
