Wasteland Lord: Starting from Thirty Days to Live

Chapter 71 Madness Depends on the Mind

Just as Lina was about to break down, a small figure suddenly darted out from behind her.

It's the little fairy Poppy.

"It's over! They've chased your bird away. They're all fierce; if they catch you, they'll probably burn you alive! You'd better run!"

This little sprite, Poppy, usually doesn't get along with Lina and is always making sarcastic remarks. Unexpectedly, at this crucial moment, he is still worried about Lina's safety.

To everyone's surprise, Lina's face darkened, as if she really hated hearing the word "escape".

"Let me run away? No way! They're the ones who should be running!"

"I still have a backup plan... Yes, I still have other methods at my disposal."

After saying that, Lina awkwardly put her hand on the back of her head and then patted the top of her head.

"Wake up, it's your turn to take over now."

She spoke as if she were talking to a third person, as if something was hidden behind the back of her head.

However, as she gently tapped, the hair at the back of her head bounced up in waves, as if something had truly awakened from the back of her head.

Bobby flapped his wings and circled behind her head, where he saw a horrifying scene.

Then, the face of an old woman with skin as withered and wrinkled as an old tree appeared from behind her head, and as the face appeared, the hair on the back of her head kept receding.

The old woman seemed to have not seen the sky outside for a long time, and she greedily breathed in the fresh air.

However, she didn't overly covet the air. She knew Lina wouldn't summon her for no reason, so she simply spoke lazily.

"Little one, you've run into trouble again? Do you need my help?"

Lina nervously bit her nails and nodded hastily.

"Teacher, please help me one more time."

The old woman sighed.

"There's no other way. You're my last disciple, so I'll help you one more time."

Downstairs, all eyes were focused on Lina on the rooftop.

Suddenly, Lina's black robe tore open like silk, and eight tentacles emerged from her back. The tentacles, like the legs of a spider, stabbed fiercely at the roof, kicking up countless dust and rubble.

As tentacles and an old man's face appeared behind her head, Lina slowly closed her eyes, as if she had fallen into a deep sleep.

Then a monster with a very strange posture appeared.

This thing had Lina's back as its front and her front as its abdomen, with its eight tentacles resembling the legs of a spider, all resting on the ground.

Vittorio, below, had a clear view of the monster's description.

[Sleeping Lina: A monster that can neither be called human nor demon, possessing strength comparable to a level three demon.]

[Lina was originally just a simple and proud child, but some inexplicable beliefs and spiritual influences, after she carried a heavy past, took advantage of her vulnerability and drove her into madness.]

This strange creature, which parasitizes his body and whom she calls "teacher," seems to be hiding the secret behind her descent into madness.

Another monster with strength comparable to level three.

Vittorio knew things weren't that simple.

Lina, who was sleeping on the roof, shrieked and walked down the ninety-degree wall. Vittorio tried to repeat his old trick and continue to cause trouble with Grandet's hand.

However, with a single tentacle raised by the sleeping Lina, Grandet was cleaved in two.

"The same trick won't work the second time!"

Vittorio had no choice but to step back, letting Edmund and Isolde take the lead and face the enemy head-on to test the thing's strength.

About half a minute later, Vittorio confirmed it: this thing... is really strong!

Like Griffin Gana, this thing is also a numerical monster.

The difference is that Ghana is flexible and adept at long-range combat, while this thing is purely a war tank.

Her eight tentacles appear soft, but each time they land on the ground, they pierce deep into the earth, like a steel bar driven into the ground.

You should know that this is the land in front of the church. As the most prosperous area in the commercial town, every inch of this street is paved with stone bricks.

Despite the ground being like this, its compound feet inserted into it as easily as a hand inserting into tofu each time.

Its power was no less than Edmund's; each swing of its tentacles was like wielding seven or eight long whips, lashing Edmund one after another.

Edmund raised his greatsword to parry, his arm muscles tense, trembling slightly with each strike. Although his movements remained unchanged, a thin mound of dirt had already formed on his heels.

They actually pushed Edmund backward, sword and all, with incredible force!

Edmund was no match for Isolde, who could only rely on his superior speed to flank from the side, trying to break through the tentacles and strike the face of the laughing old woman in the center.

However, the tentacles were not slow either. When they swung around, they were like wild flowers dancing wildly, confusing people's eyes and making it impossible for Isolde to find an opening to attack.

What's most troublesome is the nature of its tentacles.

Edmund ignited his flames, seized the opportunity when the tentacles hadn't retracted in time, and slashed at one of the tentacles with his sword, severing it cleanly.

However, the tentacle retracted in pain, and after about two or three seconds, the neatly severed flesh rippled, as if something was about to burst forth.

The next second, a brand new tentacle grew out of the cut like a bud and quickly filled the gap.

That's right, regeneration.

It's such a tricky ability.

Vittorio was at a loss for what to do, and since he couldn't get involved in the fight, he could only watch from the sidelines.

Although he couldn't fight, he didn't forget to talk his way out of things in order to gather more information.

"You're not Lina, are you? Where did that girl go? Did you devour her?"

The old woman behind the sleeping Lina burst into laughter.

"Don't use the term 'devouring,' that sounds too awful. I only temporarily occupied her body, and it was all her own choice."

"Voluntary? I've never heard of anyone voluntarily giving their body to someone else."

"You brat, you haven't seen enough! The first time I saw this little one, she had fallen into a huge pit in the basement and was already half dead. If I hadn't been living inside her, she would have been dead long ago!"

Vittorio's eyes darted around, and he continued to press for answers.

"Then you must be a senior member of the Abundance School, right? You taught Lina everything?"

"You're smart to know what's good for you."

"You caused her madness too?" Vittorio's face darkened.

However, the old woman burst into laughter upon hearing this.

"Then you're wrong. A person's madness can only be caused by himself; external factors can only be triggers... For example, the man in front of you is now also going mad because of his obsession."

Vittorio didn't know who "this man" was, but when he turned around, he found Edmund standing there, staring intently at the old woman's face behind the sleeping Lina with bloodshot eyes.

Edmund's eyes were bloodshot, veins bulging on his forehead, and his eyes were wide open, clearly showing extreme anger.

Vittorio had never seen him like this before.

Edmund had no one else in his eyes at that moment; he was only staring at the old woman's face, speaking slowly and deliberately.

"It's you. I've seen you before, thirteen years ago... You killed someone here, do you remember?"
