American homeless people, surviving in the city
Chapter 101 A Series of Unexpected Events
In the dim and noisy arena, no one paid attention to Sanchez's gritted teeth and curses.
In the Razorfen Downs' territory, everyone was laughing and celebrating their impressive victory; while at the other end of the factory, in the Black Hand's territory, Tom, whose wrist had been slashed by Lynch, had just been carried off the ring.
The members of the Black Hand gang were busy treating Tom's injuries, and no one cared who their next opponent would be.
Only one low-level thug from the Black Hand Gang, his brow furrowed, walked up to a man and spoke with a worried expression:
"Boss, the Razor Gang seems to be putting in a lot of effort for this match tonight, they've even brought in such a top fighter..."
"We're probably in deep trouble tonight."
The thugs found a muscular, bald man who looked to be in his thirties or forties, wearing a tight-fitting black vest. At first glance, the most striking features were the scar that ran across his entire left cheek and his blind left eye.
He is Jenkins Fass, the boss of the Mafia, known as "One-Eyed Dragon".
Hearing the pessimistic remarks of his subordinate's defeatist strategist, "One-Eyed Dragon" Jenkins remained unmoved.
He merely glanced at his underling with his single remaining eye, then calmly spoke:
"It's okay, didn't I already tell you? We still have a trump card."
"Although the sudden appearance of that Asian kid from the Razor Gang did disrupt my plans a bit, they were just using this match as practice, while we've already given it our all."
"Even a lion hunting a rabbit can get its eye kicked. If we fight with all our might, we might just win this game!"
"Besides... they have a mysterious Asian guy as reinforcements, and so do we, don't we?"
Even though the boss had said that, the thug's voice still sounded nervous:
"I know! Boss, you asked us to find that Eastern martial arts master who went missing from the horse caravan, and by some twist of fate, we did bring a martial artist back."
"But didn't we already ask him? He's not some martial arts master who's treated like royalty by the Stallion Gang; he's just a martial arts instructor in Seattle... Can he really beat the Razor Clan fighters?"
"I just checked, and the Razor Shields are sending Sanchez for the next match—he fights like he's out of his mind! Our guy..."
"That's enough!"
"One-Eyed Dragon" Jenkins couldn't help but get angry after his underling repeatedly undermined his teammate's morale and reprimanded him.
Then, he smiled meaningfully:
"I already told you, you don't need to worry."
"Although he was an unexpected addition to our team, I've personally verified his abilities. We're confident we can win this match!"
"You agree, right, Choi?"
Beside him, in the shadows behind Jenkins, a well-proportioned and robust young man opened his eyes.
He spoke slowly and calmly:
"These characters alone are not enough to be my opponents."
"Don't worry, boss."
......
Leaving aside the Mafia's hidden arrangements and plans, at the other end of the factory, just as the third match was about to begin...
Lin Qi stood up from his seat in the rest area, stretched his limbs a little, and then walked towards the ring.
This was his first time participating in an underground boxing match, and he was prepared to carefully observe each game and try to learn as much as possible.
However, as he walked toward the ring, a series of hurried and flustered conversations suddenly came from a relatively empty and quiet corner.
Lynch turned his head and saw "The Hound" Leo making a phone call.
Leo was speaking his native language, and Lynch couldn't understand a word he was saying. He could only tell that Leo was speaking very fast and his tone was full of anxiety!
Moreover, Lynch could see that Leo's brows were furrowed, and his tan skin even appeared slightly pale under the moonlight.
What did he hear on the phone that made him react so erratically?
Hopefully, this won't affect his upcoming matches...
Lin Qi sighed inwardly.
But he had no interest in knowing what troubled a complete stranger, so he didn't bother to talk to Leo and simply walked straight toward the ring.
But as soon as he reached the edge of the ring, he heard hurried footsteps behind him.
Lynch turned around and saw Sanjar standing not far behind him, while "The Hound" Leo stood anxiously beside Sanjar. Clearly, the footsteps he had just heard were made by Leo.
Under Lynch's watchful eye, Leo whispered something in Sanjar's ear.
The next second, Sanjar's face suddenly turned red, and he burst into a tirade of curses:
"Urgent matter? I don't care what urgent matter you have, what the hell could be more urgent than this match? I confirmed the schedule with you beforehand, and now you're just saying you want to leave?!"
"Leo, let me tell you, this match is about the profits of an entire street! You couldn't pay it back even if you sold your whole family!"
"I'm telling you right now, if you dare to run away tonight, and Boss Vesalio asks why we lost the game tomorrow, I absolutely won't cover for you!"
However, Leo simply stiffened his neck, his face pale and serious, and remained silent in the face of Sanjar's angry curses.
Seeing Leo's firm stance, Sanjar's momentum softened, and he sighed, a hint of helplessness on his face.
"...Yes, yes, I understand you. Your family is the most important thing to you. But losing a competition because a player runs away at the last minute is a completely different matter from losing a fair and square competition."
"Boss Vesalio will definitely make us take responsibility."
"...I will take responsibility. But I have to leave now."
Sanjar spoke earnestly for a long time, but after a long silence, Leo could only manage to utter this one sentence.
"well..."
Sanjar couldn't help but sigh again. He shook his head and said helplessly:
"Alright, it's come to this, I can't force you to stay. But could you find someone to play in the fourth match for you? Do you have any brothers you can contact who can come right away... We can't just concede the fourth match, can we? That wouldn't just be a matter of winning or losing, it would be a matter of the Razor Gang's reputation!"
"This..." Leo was taken aback, pondered for a moment, and then visibly showed an embarrassed expression, with an unnatural blush appearing on his pale face.
Even Lin Qi could see that this guy obviously didn't have any connections and couldn't invite any friends.
But Sanjar had indeed backed down and yielded time and time again, which made Leo himself feel a little embarrassed.
Suddenly, Lynch's eyes met Leo's.
Leo froze, staring intently at Lynch, seemingly lost in thought, his fists clenched as if he were engaged in a fierce internal struggle.
Sanjar also noticed Leo's gaze, and the moment he followed that gaze to Lynch, Sanjar immediately understood Leo's thoughts.
After much deliberation, Sanjar, without waiting for Leo to prepare himself, gritted his teeth and walked towards Lynch first:
"Brother Lynch, you must have heard our conversation. Brother Leo has urgent business to attend to and must leave immediately, therefore—"
"Could you play in this fourth match?"
