Jujutsu Kaisen: I have everything I need now!
Chapter 27 Becoming a Swimmer
Miyagi Prefecture, Sendai City.
The once bustling street is now shrouded in a huge dark red barrier, and the air is filled with dense fluctuations of magical energy.
"This is one of the four most devastating barriers in the Death Journey: the Sendai Barrier."
Standing at the edge of the barrier, December 1st looked at the shimmering screen before him and took a deep breath. He glanced down at his watch; the hands were slowly moving toward noon.
"Are you ready?"
Yuta Otsuko stood beside him, his voice calm. His oversized white college uniform swayed slightly in the wind, revealing a black hilt in the katana pouch on his back.
"Of course, if we don't join in the fun, we'll feel like we've wasted this whole time travel." December Shuo grinned, his head still wrapped in bandages, but his eyes revealed a resolute determination.
The two stepped into the barrier.
hum!
The moment I passed through the barrier, a cold, emotionless electronic voice echoed in my mind:
[Swimmer: December 1st. Score: 0. Confirmed entry into the barrier.]
December 1st flexed his wrists. He could feel countless malicious gazes being cast upon him from all directions of the ruins the moment he entered the barrier. The Sendai Barrier was currently divided among four powerful players; any newcomer was merely a moving point in the eyes of those ancient sorcerers.
"The air here... the concentration of cursed energy is ridiculously high, even I can feel it," December said in a low voice.
"After all, a large number of ancient flesh-receiving sorcerers have gathered here." Yuta walked ahead, his pace not fast, but giving people an unshakable sense of oppression. "Saku, although your ability is very special, here, the accuracy of the spell's output determines the survival rate. Don't rush to unleash your power, first learn to feel the 'rhythm' of the opponent's spells."
Yi Gu seemed somewhat aloof and didn't talk much, but every now and then he would pause subtly to explain to December the flow of the residual curse energy in this area.
"Cursed power is a condensation of emotions. Ancient sorcerers preferred to hone their cursed power into a certain ultimate 'concept'." Yuta Otsuko pointed to a building not far away that had been neatly cut open. "Look at that cut; not a single bit of excess energy leaked out. This kind of control is what we need to learn."
December 1st nodded. He closed his eyes, and the talisman wheel in his mind was spinning wildly.
Since saving Zhenyi at the Jiku three days ago, his control over the domain has undergone a qualitative leap. If activating the "Twelve Heavenly Stems" before was a matter of forcibly controlling the chaotic power of the talismans, now he can somewhat sort out those tangled threads of power.
"We can't limit ourselves to just three anymore." December 1st felt the shimmering totems in his sea of consciousness.
The extreme maneuver he performed while saving Zhenyi brought him to the threshold of overlapping talismans. In that life-or-death moment of precise control, his brain was constantly repaired by the horse talisman and expanded by the domain. Now, he can stably draw upon the power of six talismans simultaneously within the same timeframe without his consciousness collapsing.
Although he can't yet fully unleash all twelve powers, the combination of the six talismans is enough for him to roam freely in this hell.
"They're here." Yuta suddenly stopped and looked at an overpass diagonally in front of him.
There, an old man sat cross-legged at the head of the bridge. He looked extremely old, his bare upper body covered with dark blue tattoos, and two huge shikigami—like giant long-necked monster birds—were circling around him along some kind of trajectory, drawing invisible "tracks".
Swimmer: Duruf Lakdavara.
"That's his technique, using the shikigami's trajectory as the boundary of the domain." Otsukoshi Yuta drew his katana from his back. "This ancient domain logic, while its guaranteed hit effect has a limited range, is extremely domineering."
"Leave this old man to me." December took a step forward. "Yigu, you're in charge of clearing out those scumbags around here who are waiting for a chance to strike. Don't let them disturb me from testing my new moves."
Yigu Youtai glanced at the new moon of December, did not refute, but simply nodded, and then disappeared into the shadows in a flash.
"roar--!"
Duluf opened his eyes, his gaze devoid of emotion, filled only with a cold indifference towards the living. With a flick of his withered fingers, two enormous shikigami let out sharp howls and swooped down.
He did not hide on the first day of the twelfth month.
"Domain Expansion - Twelve Constellations - Eternal Coordinates"
hum!
Six talismans lit up in sequence behind the new moon of December.
"The strength of the ox, the speed of the rabbit, the explosiveness of the dragon, the transformation of the monkey, the immortality of the dog, and the revival of the horse."
boom!
Six distinct powers were forcibly combined at this moment. Faint golden dragon scales appeared on December Shuo's skin, and his figure transformed into hundreds and thousands of elusive afterimages in an instant.
The moment Duruf's shikigami touched the dark gold domain, it let out a mournful wail and was instantly melted by the high temperature emanating from the [Dragon] talisman.
"Old man, times have changed."
The sound of the new December rang in Duruf's ears.
This speed transcended the so-called "fast"; it was the extreme speed of the [Rabbit]. Before Duluf could even turn his head, the heavy fist of December, covered in golden dragon scales, had already slammed into his chest.
This punch combined the extreme brute force of the [Ox] talisman with the high-energy explosion condensed at the tip of the [Dragon] talisman.
Boom!
Duluf's aged body, like a cannonball, crashed through three office buildings in an instant. Blood mist exploded in the air, and his once proud ancient defenses, under the violent infusion of six powers, were as fragile as a piece of waste paper.
"Still not dead?" December 1st's figure flashed again.
Lying in the rubble, Duruf attempted to summon the last shikigami to self-destruct.
December 1st's eyes were fixed on him, and a beam of fire capable of melting through steel plates pierced through Duruf's body with pinpoint accuracy, slamming him against the broken wall.
"Cough... Ugh!" Duruf coughed up a mouthful of blood, and for the first time, terror appeared in his cloudy eyes. "This power... it doesn't contain a trace of magical energy... what kind of monster are you?"
"Don't be obsessed with me."
On the first day of December, he raised his hand, and the crimson light of the [Dragon] talisman once again condensed into a tiny point in his palm before suddenly piercing through Duruf's heart.
[Swimmer: Duruf Lakdavala. Confirmed dead.]
[Swimmer: December 1st. Score: 5.]
With the death of Duruf, the giant shikigami that had been hovering high in the sky instantly disintegrated into countless fragments.
As December 1st withdrew his domain, his body swayed violently. Even though he could now stably control six talismans, this level of output still left him feeling a wave of exhaustion.
"Not bad." Yigu Yuta had returned to the edge of the battlefield at some point, with the corpses of several black-clad sorcerers under his feet, and not a drop of blood on his katana.
Eku Yuta walked to December 1st's side, reached out and patted his shoulder. A gentle magical energy flowed through him, relieving the pressure on December 1st's brain.
This seemingly cold exterior but warm interior approach brought a strange warmth to December 1st.
"And there's that guy named Shi Liulong." Yuta Otsuko looked in another direction of the city, where violent roars continued to come from. "He's the man with the highest output power in this barrier. Saku, the next opponent will be much stronger than this old man."
"Then let's go see them." December straightened his back. "Anyway, we've already got the points. Now, we're going to stir things up even more."
The two walked through the smoke-filled streets and headed towards the center of Sendai.
In the shadows of the city, swarms of black insects were crawling frantically. That was the territory of another top-tier cursed spirit—Black Mu Si.
"Can you feel it?" Yuta Etsu stopped in his tracks.
"Ugh." December 1st looked at the disgusting cockroaches at her feet. "These disgusting things again. Let's hurry up and get rid of them."
"Alright." Otsuko Yuta slowly drew his katana.
