Cthulhu America, I can see the kill line.
Chapter 7 First Encounter with the Kill Line
Kong Jiu will never forget his first experience of diving into the subspace.
The feeling was like walking alone into a wheat field illuminated by stars and filled with the chirping of insects on a bright summer night.
It was quiet, but a faint rustling sound could be heard.
It was dim, yet bright with hints of starlight.
Lonely, yet feeling the vastness between heaven and earth.
The deep, dark, and boundless universe is reflected in my eyes.
His thoughts, at this moment, disintegrated, stretched, and extended infinitely.
One's entire life unfolds along this straight line, becoming a clear axis, presenting itself scene by scene before one's eyes.
On the right, he saw his past.
But just as he was about to move forward to the left, a soft rebuke pulled Kong Jiu back from his wandering thoughts.
"Don't look ahead, or the consequences of spoiling your life will be huge."
Kong Jiu turned around in surprise, and Li Yingying, with her willow-leaf eyebrows and almond-shaped eyes, was warning him with a serious expression, not a trace of a joke.
"Why?" Kong Jiu asked, puzzled.
Li Yingying pouted. "No matter which dimension you're in, as long as you look to the future, you'll receive an unknown warning."
At this point, Li Yingying showed a hint of lingering fear: "Moreover, if you ignore the warnings and try to interfere with established facts, an energy punishment will occur, which is really scary."
Upon hearing this, Kong Jiu felt a chill run down his spine and decided to heed the advice and abandon his desire to pry into the future.
Seeing that he was listening, Li Yingying nodded with satisfaction and explained, "One of the most basic uses of subspace is to take advantage of its timelessness to see the past."
After saying that, she stretched out her jade-like finger and gently touched Kong Jiu's brow.
Kong Jiu's thoughts were stretched out once again. The dark starry sky around him was gradually replaced by phantoms of his past memories.
Stepping into the antique shop, pleading with the professor, and saving little Chad—scenes flashed through my mind like a revolving lantern.
"Pour it again, pour it again, pour it again... Stop!"
Time stood still six months ago.
One night, Kong Jiu picked up a drunken Impah and took him back to his apartment.
"Damn! That girl's headlights are so big, she's a Mormon! She won't let anyone touch her, what's she doing at this sex party!"
While hiccuping and cursing, Yingpa was helped into the apartment by Kong Jiu.
"Hey, Jiu Jiu, you like cars with big headlights too, right? What are your criteria for choosing a partner?"
Even though Impa was completely drunk, he still managed to ask Kongjiu about his preferences.
"How many times have you asked this? I like blonde bombshells and brown-skinned Asian beauties. Alright, young master, go to sleep now."
Outside of his memories, Li Yingying looked at Kong Jiu's true form with a mischievous grin, making him feel extremely uncomfortable.
In his memory, Kong Jiu, with a helpless expression, helped Ying Pa to the bedroom.
The young master touched the pillow, mumbled a few words, and then began snoring like a dead pig.
Kong Jiu then pushed open the door and left.
He sat alone on the sofa, seemingly lost in thought.
"What are you thinking about?" Li Yingying asked.
"I forgot."
Kong Jiu shook his head. "But I do remember that day I pulled a crab weighing half a pound out of a dockworker's body."
Li Yingying was disgusted by these words and curled her lips into a smile. She quickly interrupted, "Forget it, this is an opportunity, let's do it now."
She let out a strange cry and commanded, "Quick, get closer!"
Kong Jiu obediently moved closer, almost touching his face with the image of himself from his memories.
Li Yingying picked up the stack of application documents and reached into her memories.
Somehow, her hand passed through the memories, becoming translucent, and the documents became blurred and indistinct.
She held the document and waved it in front of Kong Jiu's memory. As if suddenly remembering something, he immediately got up and went back to his bedroom.
The two followed closely inside, and Kong Jiu's eyes widened in surprise.
My past self was rapidly typing on the keyboard, quickly drafting an application.
"You changed the past?" Kong Jiu exclaimed in surprise.
"What nonsense are you spouting, you little brat?"
Li Yingying gently patted his mouth and said reproachfully, "I wouldn't dare change what's already happened; I'm just adding another possibility to the past."
As she spoke, she lightly flicked her fingers, and memories drifted away like smoke.
The next moment, the scene around them changed back to the office.
Clearly, they had left that eerie and tranquil subspace.
"That's it?" Kong Jiu stared blankly at the vanished documents.
"No, this is just the beginning, the seeds of opportunity have been sown."
Li Yingying, now back to her little girl form, stretched and said, "The trouble is about to begin. We'll have to keep finding moments when no one can see you, and then gradually adjust until that opportunity comes to fruition."
Kong Jiu instinctively pressed further, "Isn't that still changing the past, changing what has already happened?"
"No, why are you so reckless, kid?"
Li Yingying rubbed her forehead, seemingly exasperated by his stubbornness, and could only wave her hand and say:
"Anyway, I'll take care of what happens next. You don't have the ability to interfere with the past, and don't wander around in the subspace. Understand that it's a place where time is uncertain, and you can only see the past, understand?"
She clearly didn't want to explain further, and Kong Jiu couldn't press her, so he could only nod.
"Go back and wait for news. Goodbye."
After Li Yingying finished speaking, she slumped onto the sofa and dismissed the guests.
"cost?"
"Consider it a debt you owe me. Maybe I'll need your help someday."
Kong Jiu was thus asked to leave the office in a daze.
Before leaving, he glanced at the tall buildings outside the window one last time, feeling somewhat reluctant to go.
Suddenly, as if he had just thought of something, he asked, "Master Li, I have one last question."
"explain."
"What is my home planet in the Amerigo Plane?"
Li Yingying slumped on the sofa and glanced at the young man.
"What do you think? A place with five thousand years of psionic history, do you think it's some simple place? Don't you have any idea?"
Kong Jiu scratched his chin, unable to picture that scene.
He could only take one last look at his homeland before passing through the dark tunnel and returning to the antique shop.
When the fake "Fern" saw him return, he bowed to him with utmost respect.
Looking at the money rat tail braid and centipede buckle, Kong Jiu's doubts deepened.
Manchu remnants have become Manchu remnants. What has become of the homeland of this world?
But he is not one to pry into things.
Let bygones be bygones; living well in the present is the most important thing.
He had just stepped out of the antique shop when his phone rang.
It was a call from the food truck staff.
Since becoming a corpse collector last year, Kong Jiu has had a lot of spare money.
To earn some extra money, he opened a food truck.
Shandong mutton soup is a specialty, and Kong Jiu, who was chosen by both Shandong and Shanxi, naturally chose to sell mutton soup as his specialty.
He also hired two young men in their early teens to help him buy flatbread, which he sold mixed with mutton soup. The flatbread was very popular among the poor in the lower city.
However, since the attack on Christmas Eve, he has been unconscious for a day and rushed to finish those application forms, so he hasn't been able to set up his stall for two whole days.
Clearly, the guy called to ask if we were setting up our stall.
Sure enough, when I answered the phone, a child's voice with a thick accent came from the other end:
"Hey boss, wanna set up a stall? The guy who delivers mutton brought over a huge piece of mutton tail fat today. The mutton soup made from it will definitely be super white and fragrant!"
"Silly child, you're even craving mutton tail fat..."
Kong Jiu smiled, but his smile revealed a hint of helplessness.
Lamb tail fat is rich in oil. Frying it until fragrant and then simmering it in soup can indeed increase the oil content, making the soup milky white and more fragrant.
However, the gamey smell will naturally increase significantly.
However, for the poor in the lower city, it was already difficult to have enough to eat, and a little bit of oil was a rare treat. Who cared about whether it was fishy or not?
"Okay, you guys put the mutton tail fat in the pan and render the oil first, I'll be right there."
He held the phone between his fingers, hopped on his bicycle, and hurried toward the slums, giving instructions as he did so.
"Do you remember how to fry it? Put the mutton tail fat in the pot, add half a bowl of water, throw in some ginger slices, and simmer over medium heat. Once the water evaporates, the fat will be rendered..."
Chinatown is not far from the downtown area, and the bicycle quickly reached the edge of the downtown area.
But as soon as he entered the edge of the lower city, he froze.
On the streets where the snow had not yet melted, many homeless people who had taken booster drugs were either lying or sitting, wandering around.
Kong Jiu had already witnessed this scene before.
But this time it's different.
Each homeless man now had a string of blood bars above his head.
The health bar still doesn't have much health left.
The full parts have all fallen below the scarlet slant, and the empty, glowing health bars silently exude a dangerous warning.
A warning that one's life is nearing its end.
Kong Jiu couldn't help but swallow, a chill running down his spine.
