LeBron James, your house got robbed.
Chapter 23 Multiple Choice Questions
Cleveland, Ohio
The trainer held up a foam mat to simulate a defender. James probed with his back, made an observation move, and then turned and shot.
His painful experience in the Finals made him realize that simply facing the basket would never win him a championship.
Back-to-the-basket technique can be optional, but it's definitely not an option without it.
The Mavericks' zone defense, with its dense midfield, completely shuts down Chandler's inside presence, leaving him only able to try his shooting touch from the outside.
So, James became Hakeem Olajuwon's student that summer and diligently studied the Dream Shake.
Although he ultimately failed, given his less-than-stellar coordination, he simply couldn't learn it.
But it wasn't without its gains. I learned how to use my lower body to generate power, how to feel the defender with my back, and how to coordinate dribbling and receiving the ball.
Although it wasn't exactly brilliant, it finally changed the predicament of only being able to attack from the front.
James understands that his strength lies in his core strength, rather than the freakish coordination of Hakeem Olajuwon and Michael Jordan.
So he spent the whole summer thinking about how to leverage his strengths when playing with his back to the goal.
The final conclusion is that we must increase the number of back-turn shots so that opponents will close in on us.
Once the opponent gets close and engages in hand-to-hand combat, you fall into a pure power struggle and enter your comfort zone.
He firmly believes that starting from the waist position can bring more variety to his game.
After making another back-to-the-basket shot, James noticed the Cleveland fans gradually entering the arena.
They wore home jerseys, white with burgundy lettering and gold trim.
Like many nights before, except the number on it has been changed to CP3 number 3.
This is the journey from the airport to the quick loan center by bus.
Huge posters hung in familiar places, and for a moment, James would see himself in the image of the little guy holding a basketball.
Although he had already returned to Quicken Loans Arena last season, returning here on Christmas Eve is special.
Along the way, you can see Christmas trees, lights arranged in the shape of stars and snowflakes, reindeer formations, giant nutcrackers, wreaths, pine branches and red ribbons, as well as wooden signs that say "Merry Christmas".
Compared to Miami, where it never snows, Christmas in Cleveland is more in line with his memories.
All of this brought back a flood of memories for James.
James stopped practicing with his back to the basket and instead focused on mechanically attempting shots to maintain his touch.
He also played in the Christmas game here and was once considered a star player by the people of Cleveland.
It's just that I made the choice myself.
I was born here, and for the first 25 years of my life, all the wonderful things happened here.
How could I not have feelings for Cleveland?
But I am a rational person, which is why I made the right choice and took control of my own destiny.
These fond memories of the past and the fans of Cleveland are not as important as the championship and the commercial value that a big city can bring in.
James can't remember when he started to get into the habit of calculating the value of everything, and even became obsessed with it.
Whether playing basketball or doing business, everything requires meticulous calculation and making the right decisions.
He felt he had done nothing wrong.
Business is business; there shouldn't be any emotional involvement.
But is the Heat really the best place for him?
Are the three giants' team-building strategies correct?
The thought of Battier being snatched away by Cleveland filled James with resentment.
If it weren't for that damn bastard, everything would have gone much better.
After losing Battier, Lai used the middle-class exception to re-sign DeShawn Stephenson.
Just to be on the safe side, Riley also approached James Posey, who was preparing to retire, and brought him back to Miami on a veteran's minimum salary.
But James understands that even if these two players are combined, it will be difficult to make up for the loss of Battier.
James looked toward the opposite half of the court, at Ariza and Battier. With these two as teammates, the chances of winning the championship this year would be much greater.
On the other side of the field, next to the players' tunnel, Scott waved his hands and spat angrily.
"What right does this bastard have to interfere with my starting position?!"
"What right does he have to interfere with my rotation arrangements!"
As a member of the Showtime Lakers, Scott is a veteran and a legend wherever he goes, and he never thought that anyone would surpass him and forcibly change the team's starting lineup.
Grant quickly explained:
"Byron, Chen Shuo didn't intend to bypass you; he simply switched Leonard's and Battier's timelines."
Grant was unsure of himself halfway through his sentence, but he still insisted on finishing the second half.
"At the same time, Thompson and Ariza's times were switched."
"They all have similar roles, and Chen Shuo is still reasonable."
Scott could no longer contain his anger.
"Chris, if he insists on this, I'll resign right now."
The best coach cannot tolerate such humiliation.
Grant was in a real bind; Scott had resigned, and he was nowhere to find a new coach.
This is the opening game, this is Christmas Eve, this is being broadcast nationwide.
This made headlines.
Chen Shuo had already transformed the Cavaliers into a high-profile team, attracting media reporters and their informants everywhere.
At the slightest disturbance, a group of reporters would rush over, drawn by the smell of blood.
Grant's mind raced as he tried to find reasons for Chen Shuo:
"Byron, the boss put a lot of pressure on Chen."
"He drafted both of these rookies and spent the whole summer organizing training camps, spending a lot of money and resources. He definitely hopes that Klay and Kawhi can achieve good results."
Scott wouldn't listen to a word he said; his mind was filled with the idea that the other party had overstepped their authority, and he kept firing at Grant.
So much so that Grant was completely numb by then. When Scott shouted "resign!" again, Grant pointed to the first row on the sidelines and said, in a tone so devoid of emotion that it sounded like he was just throwing the game:
"Gilbert and Chen Shuo are over there; you can resign now."
Scott suddenly lost his voice.
A moment of silence.
He wasn't planning to resign so soon; he was just putting pressure on Grant to intimidate Chen Shuo.
Grant snapped out of his daze, realized Scott's thoughts, and quickly offered a way out:
"Byron, I sympathize with your plight."
"But now Gilbert has been bewitched by that Easterner."
"I'm just as angry as you are, but for the sake of the team, please persevere."
"For the fans of Cleveland."
After some persuasion, Scott finally let go of Grant and went to make pre-match arrangements.
Grant watched Scott's departing figure.
He knew perfectly well that if Scott dared to resign now, Chen Shuo would not let Scott coach this game.
This guy acts without any scruples.
Gilbert will most likely acquiesce to Chen Shuo's decision.
Chen Shuo's power was entirely based on Gilbert's trust, and this guy didn't care about the unspoken rules of the industry at all.
Or rather, he understands that these unspoken rules are always subject to the power of capital.
He had heard before that Gilbert was very happy that the team could play in the Christmas game, and even organized a party to celebrate Chen Shuo's success.
Compared to these unspoken rules that have been established over the years, Chen Shuo clearly understands better how the world of capital operates.
As for the interpersonal relationships required for trading with other teams.
Chen Shuo doesn't need it at all.
Almost every deal he made resulted in a loss.
He doesn't seem to like haggling; instead, he prefers to overwhelm the other party with excessive leverage.
Every transaction Chen Shuo made after taking office made the other party feel like they had made a huge profit.
Grant recalled something Chen Shuo had once said.
"Grasp the principal contradiction."
Now Grant finds this particularly reasonable.
