Chapter 40 A Strange Sense of Companionship

Sieg has lost his memory!

How is that possible?

Upon closer examination, it's not impossible.

I met with Walker yesterday, and when Walker told me that Sieg had been working as a dockworker for a whole month, Fox found it unbelievable.

After hearing Brother Sieg's explanation, everything makes sense now.

Something must have happened to Brother Sieg.

It's possible that he made a mistake during his adventure in the Fire Palace;

It's possible he was ambushed by an enemy.

In short, he experienced something very bad, which caused his inner fire to dim and his strength to plummet.

It may have damaged the brain, resulting in incomplete memory.

"No, we can't be so hasty. There's also a possibility that this person isn't Brother Sig."

Fox thought to himself.

He looked at Sig again, thinking, "Even though he looks like Sig, sounds like Sig, and claims to be called Sig... isn't he just Sig?!"

"The only thing that can't be explained is that he was too young."

"It's impossible for a human to remain completely unchanged after eighteen years. Could it be that Brother Sieg drank some kind of elixir of youth, granting him eternal youth?"

Fox was in turmoil, but slowly, a sense of certainty took over.

He felt that the person in front of him was his older brother, Sig.

It can't be wrong.

There can't possibly be two people who look so alike. Brother Sieg must have gone through something to remain unchanged in appearance but have decreased in strength.

The question now is-

"Should I tell Walker about this discovery?"

Fox sensed a hint of "danger".

That's too suspicious.

Oz and Sieg were such good friends back then!

They were so close that anyone who saw them would think they were a couple.

Today, eighteen years later, Oz, upon learning of Sieg's whereabouts, did not choose to come in person, but instead secretly and furtively entrusted her assistant to search for him.

Walker is even more suspicious!

If Oz and Sieg had a good relationship, why would he say something like, "Don't alert the enemy, don't mention Lord Oz"?

"Could it be... that after leaving Blackscale City, Brother Sieg and Lord Oz had a falling out, parted ways, or even... become enemies?!"

It's not impossible!

That explains everything! Oz sought out Sieg not out of old affection, but out of hatred!

Fox went a step further and came up with a terrifying conjecture.

Sieg lost his memory because he was beaten by Oz.

Domestic violence.

Oz struck Sig on the forehead with his cane, causing Sig to lose his memory!

"Lady Oz, of course I respect you. She gave the order, and I will go through fire and water."

"But Brother Sieg is the one I'm closest to! Back then, everyone thought I was incompetent, had no fighting ability, and was just a burden. I had no status in the Silver Wolf Clan. If it weren't for Brother Sieg giving me a hand and taking me down to the Fire Palace to eat meat every day, would I be where I am today?"

"I'll either be expelled from the Silver Wolf Clan or die in the Fire Palace!"

One must never forget one's roots.

"Brother Sieg raised me when I was young, so I should take care of him in his old age. No matter what, I can't reveal Brother Sieg's existence before I figure out Oz's purpose! Even if things are exposed and Oz kills me in revenge, I'll accept it! Lucky Hand Fawkes isn't a coward!"

Fox was overwhelmed with emotion, and he made up his mind.

Emilia's heart was also in turmoil.

She couldn't be sure if the person in front of her was the same Sig that the Lord of the Fire Palace wanted her to observe and test.

After thinking it over, I couldn't come up with any way to verify it.

I can only confirm it in person when I return to see the Savior.

Silence descended upon the event room.

No one spoke, and in the slightly awkward atmosphere, Emilia suddenly trembled, her beautiful eyes widening inexplicably.

She understood!

Emilia's personality is indeed a bit soft, but that doesn't mean she's a fool.

She was preoccupied with something on her mind, wanting to confirm whether Da Gen was Sig, and had no energy to think about anything else.

Now that I have the answer for the time being, my mind is idle. But when I think about what I have seen and heard along the way, I immediately become alert!

Walker and Fox's series of unusual actions were enough to prove that they had something on their minds regarding Sieg.

Moreover, most of them have ulterior motives; otherwise, there would be no need to hide it.

Sieg is a man favored by the Lord of the Fire Palace.

Emilia had no idea what Walker and Fox were plotting, and she felt it necessary to remind Sieg.

Right now.

right here.

The three sat down, each harboring their own secrets.

"Why isn't Miss Grapefruit coming down yet?"

Emilia suddenly spoke.

She held the porcelain cup, stirring the coffee slowly and elegantly, then looked at Fox and said, "Mr. Walker—Professor Oz's assistant, are you getting impatient? There's not much entertainment in my carriage."

Ok?

Fox was wondering how to start the conversation when Emila, seemingly unintentionally, opened the door with a single sentence!

He chuckled and said, "I wouldn't know. Mr. Walker—the senior assistant to the Great Witch Oz—should be quite patient. Otherwise, how could he be—the Great Witch Oz's assistant?"

"..."

"..."

Emilia and Sieg were both dumbfounded, staring at Fox in astonishment.

The most bewildered was clearly Sieg.

What's going on?

Why are these two people mentioning Oz so vehemently?

What does that mean?

Uneasy desu.

Sieg, suppressing his emotions, asked, "Mr. Walker?"

Emilia laughed, "Yes. This morning, Mr. Walker stopped my car and said he wanted to come with me to Grapefruit. But strangely, when we got to the door, he didn't get out of the car, but just let Fox and me in."

Fox quickly added, "That's nothing! Just yesterday, Walker suddenly showed up at my door, asking if I knew someone named 'Sieg,' saying Oz was looking for him... Hey, Big Root, you're also named Sieg? He's not looking for you, is he?"

Fuck it.

What exactly is going on?

Sig was stunned.

His strategy was quite obvious: feign amnesia.

When Oz came to him, he pretended he knew nothing, betting that Oz would still remember their past relationship and wouldn't do anything to him.

This is not just prayer.

All signs indicate that Oz's feelings for him are quite complicated, and Sieg judges that she still has some feelings for him.

Nefarian said that Oz specifically asked, "Has the Demon Lord of the East ever mentioned her?"

This may not prove anything.

The description of Oz on the panel is more explicit:

She later heard your story. You were a cruel executioner, a sinner against the world, a usurper and a traitor.

"You've been doing very well since leaving her, having affairs with three other outstanding women. Oh, I see. You've found someone better," Oz thought.

"You've found someone better."

He harbored great resentment, his love turning into hatred.

Therefore, Sieg judged that faking amnesia was likely a skillful move, or at least a natural one.

It provides a buffer, buying time and space so that the enemy isn't immediately killed by Oz, and still has room to maneuver.

But now...

Sieg looked at Fox; this guy doesn't play by the rules!

He said, "It shouldn't be... me, right? What merit do I possess to deserve Lord Oz's attention?"
