America: Starting with the Last Liberty
Chapter 17 10 Minutes
Tuesday, May 9, 2000, sunny, north of Los Angeles.
Today is a weekday, so there are fewer customers at the Pacific Standard Bank branch.
In fact, more than 90 percent of Americans do not have the habit of saving, so banks in America are basically commercial banks used for financing loans or issuing credit cards.
Pacific Standard Bank's clients are mainly factories or small businesses in North Los Angeles, with individuals only occasionally applying for loans.
So this bank is usually quite quiet.
In the bank lobby, only a few customers came to conduct business, and the bank tellers were so bored they were almost asleep.
Not far from the bank, a van was parked on the side of the road. It had been there for three days, but no one seemed to care.
The people in the car were observing the Pacific Standard Bank through binoculars, constantly yawning.
"Pete, the boss said there would be a case here, but we've been here for three whole days and nothing's happened! Has the boss been tricked?"
"Phew! Anthony, I don't know if the boss has been fooled, but I know I'm going to die if I don't drink my coffee soon! You stay here and watch the room by yourself for a bit, I'll go buy some coffee!"
"Buy me one too! Fuck! This place is so remote, even buying coffee is such a long way away. How much money could there be in a bank? How could any robbers possibly want to rob this place?"
Anthony kept complaining, completely failing to understand his boss Vincent's orders.
In reality, Vincent, wanting to claim all the credit for himself, didn't reveal Donnie's undercover role to his subordinates, nor did he explain why Phil and Dennis were targeting the bank.
He only mentioned that he had received intelligence that a robbery might occur at the Pacific Standard Bank, and instructed Pete and Anthony to keep an eye on the place.
Having discovered nothing and made no progress, Anthony began to doubt the correctness of his superior's orders.
Just then, his colleague ran out to buy coffee, so Anthony put down his binoculars and prepared to lie down in his chair and take a nap.
My colleague will be back in ten minutes at most. He'll only be dozing off for ten minutes. Nothing should happen, right?
It was almost lunchtime, so security supervisor Rupert Lawrence went outside the bank to have a smoke.
Arriving at the flowerbed behind the bank, Rupert lit a cigarette with trembling hands, then seemingly accidentally dropped a bunch of keys into the flowerbed.
At the same time, a young Asian man in a sharp suit, with a small mustache, who looked like a successful businessman, walked into the bank, catching the eye of several female bank tellers.
"Hello, I'd like to apply for a loan. Where do I go?"
The staff member answered the Asian youth very politely.
Do you have an appointment?
"no."
"Then please go to the second floor for inquiries."
"Thank you so much!"
The Asian youth politely thanked the staff and then slowly walked towards the second floor of the bank.
This Pacific Standard Bank, located in the suburbs, has two floors. The first floor is a general service hall, mainly for services such as withdrawals and transfers.
There is also a credit area on the second floor where you can handle loan, investment and other services.
Just before going up the stairs, the Asian youth saw Rupert Lawrence returning after finishing his cigarette, and the latter gave the Asian youth a barely perceptible nod.
The Asian youth immediately picked up his phone and dialed a number, but the call didn't go through and was disconnected after ringing three times.
Then, the Asian youth went to the second-floor credit area, where there were several partitioned desks and a few account managers working there.
Upon seeing the Asian youth enter, someone immediately stood up to welcome him.
"Hello, sir! Are you here to apply for a loan?"
"Yes! I need a large loan, and I need to talk to your general manager."
"May I ask your name?"
You can call me Jack.
This handsome Asian youth, who used the alias Jack and made some disguises, was none other than Rosen.
While negotiating with the staff, Rosen stood near the window on the second floor facing the back door, and his gaze kept drifting towards the open door of the general manager's office.
General Manager David Albert, looking dazed, took out a key card and placed it on his desk.
Meanwhile, in a van parked a few blocks away, Phil's phone rang once, then was disconnected after three seconds.
"Guys, it's our turn!"
Phil with the big beard looked excited, while Dennis whistled and quickly started the van.
Donnie showed a slight struggle on his face, but quickly became resolute again.
The van looked like a construction company vehicle from the outside, and it went unnoticed in the parking lot behind the bank.
The three got out of the car, picked up a bunch of keys from the flower bed, put on masks, and walked directly towards the back door of the bank.
This scene was clearly seen by Rosen, who was standing by the window on the second floor, and also by the security personnel in the monitoring room.
"The game has begun!"
Rosen took a clown mask out of his clothes and put it on, then activated the ECM jammer.
The security guard in the monitoring room immediately wanted to notify other guards to check, but found that there was only static in the walkie-talkie and even the monitor had become blurry.
In fact, it wasn't just the walkie-talkies in the monitoring room; all the electronic equipment in the bank was interfered with. Computers lost network access, and mobile phones lost signal.
The security guards in the monitoring room immediately sensed something was wrong, but by then someone had already rushed in with an AR15.
America's bank security guards were also equipped with pistols or shotguns, but upon seeing the rifle in the man's hand, the guard decisively chose to surrender.
Dennis then took control of the monitoring room, and Phil and Donnie entered the lobby.
Upon seeing the guns in the two men's hands, one of the stubborn security guards immediately tried to attack, but was cleanly and decisively shot to the ground by Phil with an AR15 equipped with a silencer.
The security guard did not die, but was injured.
Phil's actions successfully intimidated the other security guards.
Upon seeing this, someone immediately screamed in terror.
The screams reached the second floor, but the situation there was much quieter than in the lobby on the first floor.
Wearing a clown mask and holding the G18, Rosen had completely taken control of the situation.
"Everyone, we're all just employees. There's no need for us to risk our lives for capitalists, is there?"
Rosen tied all the staff's hands behind their backs with plastic ties and confiscated their communication devices.
Immediately afterwards, Rosen led everyone, including the general manager, to the lobby on the first floor, including the general manager's key card that had been accidentally placed on the table.
The customers and staff on the first floor have cooperated by securing the items with plastic strapping.
As for those who don't cooperate, they naturally fall to the ground.
"How is the situation?"
"Very smoothly!"
"First, close the bank, then we can open the vault."
At this point, only 10 minutes had passed since Rosen entered the bank.
(Here it comes!)
