America: Starting with the Last Liberty
Chapter 31 The Demon Police
Donnie's voice sounded extremely terrified; he hadn't been this terrified when his identity was exposed before.
"What happened?"
"Vincent, that guy Vincent's gone mad! He kidnapped my wife and wants me to identify you! I... I can't go to Phil or Dennis, so I can only come to you!"
Currently, besides Vincent, Rosen is the only person who knows Donnie's identity, so Donnie has no other choice.
Rosen's previously dazed mind instantly cleared.
"Is that so? Where are you right now?"
"I'm in XXX apartment! Fuck! I feel like I'm going crazy!"
"Donnie, don't rush! Let me get there and we can discuss this further!"
According to the information Rosen obtained from Sweefer, Donnie was already married before becoming an undercover agent.
Donnie's wife remained loyal to him even after he went undercover, suggesting a very good relationship between the couple. Rosen felt this might be an opportunity.
An opportunity to build your own team!
Rosen can't always form temporary teams every time he goes on a job; he needs a few regular teammates.
After all, sometimes, a bad teammate is more terrifying than a formidable opponent.
After quickly washing up and eating some bread to fill his stomach, Rosen drove his Dodge Viper to the address Donnie had given him.
Arriving at an apartment building in downtown Los Angeles, Rosen knocked on the door and saw Donnie with red and swollen eyes.
"Rosen, I really don't know what to do! Maggie is nine months pregnant and close to giving birth. She almost miscarried not long ago, and I'm so scared!"
Donnie's crying evoked some sympathy from Rosen. How could a grown man shed tears if he wasn't truly heartbroken?
"Calm down, Donnie! Now is not the time to cry! Your wife and your unborn child are waiting for you!"
Rosen's words cheered Donnie up a little.
"You're right, now is not the time to cry!"
"Donnie, now tell me exactly what happened!"
Donnie recounted the events in fits and starts.
After his job at Standard Pacific Bank, Donnie moved and lay low for a while until he was sure the Los Angeles police hadn't found him before he prepared to leave Los Angeles.
However, just as Donnie left home to buy some things he needed for the journey, he received a call from Vincent.
"Joe Piston, you've really disappointed me!"
"Vincent, I'm tired of being undercover. Please let me go! I'm never coming back to Los Angeles!"
Unfortunately, Vincent, whose job at Pacific Standard Bank was ruined, had gone into a trance. He didn't want to hear any of Donnie's explanations; he only wanted to take revenge and return to the police station in glory.
"Joe Piston, I'm very sorry to see you make this choice, so I'm going to punish you! Maggie is in my hands now, and if you want her and her baby to be safe, just wait for my call."
Downey felt like he'd been struck by lightning. When he rushed back to the apartment, he found the door had been pried open and his wife, Maggie, was nowhere to be seen.
"My mind is completely blank right now, I don't know what to do!"
Rosen patted Donnie on the shoulder.
"Has Vincent called yet?"
Donnie shook his head.
"I'm waiting for his call."
Just as he finished speaking, Donnie's phone rang, and he quickly answered it.
"Joe Piston, you've already found backup? This guy isn't the mastermind behind Pacific Standard Bank, is he? Whatever, call your men if you want, but get to that warehouse where you guys always meet at midnight tonight! A minute later and Maggie might be in danger!"
Donnie had the speakerphone on, so Rosen could hear Vincent's words clearly.
Rosen quickly peered out the window to observe the situation outside. Vincent's words indicated that he had been monitoring Donnie and that Vincent himself was likely nearby.
Unfortunately, it was pitch black outside the window, and nothing could be seen, so there was no way to find Vincent.
Rosen frowned deeply. He hadn't put on makeup when he arrived, and his Asian identity was so obvious that he would definitely be associated with the Asian man working at Standard Pacific Bank.
This is something Rosen himself didn't consider properly, and he needs to be more careful in the future.
"Wait! Vincent, let me hear Maggie's voice! Just one line!"
It's clear that Donnie is still very worried about his wife's condition.
"Okay! Maggie, go say hello to your husband."
"Donnie, help me!"
Judging from Maggie's strong voice, it's easy to tell that she hasn't suffered any torment, or at least she's still healthy.
"Maggie, wait for me! I will definitely save you!"
"Almost there, Donnie! I'll be waiting for you at the warehouse at 12 o'clock!"
Rosen glanced at the time; it was already 10 p.m., and it would take at least an hour to get to the warehouse in the suburbs.
"Donnie, it's time for you to leave!"
Donnie looked at Rosen.
"Rosen, aren't you coming with me?"
"You go first, I'll follow behind!"
Donnie understood Rosen's meaning, quickly made some preparations, and then drove his car to the agreed location.
Rosen then walked out of the room, took out his phone and glanced at the Harvest Day app. Sure enough, he had a new errand to run.
New Job: The Demon Cop
Difficulty: ☆
[Main Objective: To successfully rescue Maggie Piston]
[Additional condition 1: Maggie Piston and her baby are safe and sound]
Current status: Preparation phase
[Purchasable Information: 1 items]
Is it only 1 star difficult? This means the task should be very simple.
Even for the simplest of jobs, Rosen still had to buy intelligence.
[Intelligence 1: Vincent Murphy was able to find Maggie Piston because of another undercover agent.]
Another undercover agent?
Rosen immediately realized something and quickly called Donnie.
Donnie had only just set off and had not yet left the neighborhood.
"Rosen, what's up?"
"Donnie, I just thought of something. How did Vincent find out that you and Maggie were living here?"
Donnie was stunned when the question was asked.
"I can't believe I never thought of that before! Fuck!"
"It's not too late to think about it now!"
After a moment's hesitation, Donnie answered Rosen's question.
"I ran into another undercover friend of mine on the street earlier. Could it be that he told Vincent?"
"Another undercover agent? Give me his phone number!"
Donnie quickly rattled off a string of numbers.
After hanging up, Rosen dialed this number.
"Hello, this is Brian O'Connor, who are you?"
Brian O'Connor?
Why does this name sound familiar?
"I am a friend of Donnie Blasco."
"Donnie? He gave you that number?"
"Yes, Donnie is in big trouble now, and you're the one who brought this trouble upon him."
Brian O'Connor was silent for a moment on the other end of the phone.
"What do you mean by that!"
(See you again)
