America: Starting with the Last Liberty
Chapter 51 Short Video
Rosen did not bring Megan and Franklin to the Zangie Vicky bar.
Zangie Vicky Bar is always a mixed bag of people; you never know when a member of the Mafia might be drinking there.
After much deliberation, Rosen finally led the two to the apartment across from his own, which was where Mrs. Gaines had previously lived.
Mrs. Gaines paid three months' rent for the apartment, but she has only lived there for less than two months, so the landlord is unlikely to refund her rent.
So Mrs. Gaines gave the key to Rosen, and planned to return it to the landlord when the rent was due.
Rosen hasn't moved to the apartment near Caltech yet because the apartment there has only a few days left before it becomes available.
The Mafia's Cadillac was taken away and disposed of by Swifa; if that car had been parked near the apartment, it would have definitely attracted the Mafia's attention.
"Alright, you two, how about we talk about why you're being hunted by the Mafia?"
Megan and Franklin looked at each other, and finally the blonde news anchor spoke up.
"Mr. Rosen, can I trust you?"
The group had already introduced themselves to each other before entering the apartment.
"Ms. Kelly, of course you can trust me. I'm a big fan of yours!"
Unfortunately, Megan has confirmed that Rosen was the driver in the May 5.1st Los Angeles Ring Expressway incident, so she completely disbelieves Rosen's so-called fan comments.
"What? You don't believe me?"
Rosen's eyes instantly turned dangerous, and Franklin quickly offered an explanation.
"Mr. Rosen, it's not that we don't want to tell you, but this matter is extremely dangerous. If you knew, your life might also be in danger!"
Rosen wasn't afraid of mortal danger; what he feared most was not having any jobs.
Rosen chose to save Megan and Franklin not only because of Megan's beauty, but also because he felt he could get a job from them.
"Life-threatening? My God! Ms. Kelly, why didn't you tell me about something this important sooner? I certainly wouldn't have let Lindsay save you if you hadn't told me sooner."
Rosen's expression was exaggerated, and Megan could tell that he was being sarcastic, but it still made her somewhat unhappy.
"Mr. Rosen, I'm not joking!"
"Ms. Kelly, I'm not joking. To save you, Lindsey killed two Mafia members. We're already involved, and now we just want to know why!"
Megan paused for a moment before realizing that Rosen was right.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Rosen, so much has happened these past few hours that my head is a bit spinning!"
Just a few hours ago, Megan was a minor, somewhat well-known broadcaster.
But in those few hours, Megan attended an underground car race, witnessed a murder, and was hunted by the Mafia.
For someone who has always been law-abiding since childhood, this is indeed hard to accept.
At this moment, Franklin spoke up.
"Mr. Rosen, is Ms. Svefa the owner of the Zangie Vicky bar?"
Rosen glanced at Franklin, who had actually recognized Svefair.
"Yes, is there a problem?"
"No problem! Megan, I think we can explain things clearly to Mr. Rosen!"
Franklin turned to Megan and tried to persuade her.
Megan was a little confused as to why Franklin had suddenly changed his attitude.
"are you sure?"
"My old buddy told me that Zangie Vicky's bar has powerful connections and might be able to solve our problem!"
Franklin didn't want to live in hiding forever, nor did he want to lose the television job he had worked so hard to get.
Megan fell silent. She knew far less about the underworld than Franklin did, so she chose to trust her colleague.
"Alright, the whole truth is here."
The blonde news anchor took a DV camera out of her bag and handed it to Lawson.
"That's right! You should have done this a long time ago!"
Rosen took the DV camera to see what the other person had filmed, only to find that the DV had automatically shut down due to a lack of power.
"Uh, it's probably because the filming took too long. I have a spare battery here."
After replacing the battery and restarting the DV, Rosen carefully watched the footage Megan had filmed, including some of the blonde anchorwoman's assessments of Rosen's identity.
Rosen gave Megan a strange look, which made Megan look very embarrassed.
"Um, Mr. Rosen, you can actually skip directly to the last paragraph; that's the key to the problem."
"Ms. Kelly, would you mind if I cut out the earlier part of the video?"
Megan instinctively objected.
"How can that be! I worked so hard to film those!"
Franklin gave Megan a shove, speechless, before she realized that what she had photographed was essentially evidence of Rosen and his group's involvement in underground racing.
Lawson definitely wouldn't feel at ease if it wasn't deleted.
Megan quickly changed her tune.
"I promise I won't send the video out!"
"Your assurances are of no use, Ms. Kelly."
Rosen prepared to edit the video directly in front of Megan using a DV camera.
"Wait a minute! Mr. Rosen, I'll agree to delete the preceding part if you answer just one question!"
Megan stared intently at Rosen.
"Ask me anything, I'll delete the beginning of the question regardless of whether I answer it or not."
"Mr. Rosen, are you the driver involved in the May 5.1st Los Angeles Ring Expressway incident?"
Rosen looked at Megan with some surprise, not expecting that she had actually discovered it.
However, considering that he had previously appeared near a wrecked blue sedan and had once again demonstrated impressive driving skills, it is quite normal for him to be suspected.
Fortunately, Megan did not discover that the Asian man listed in the Pacific Standard Bank job posting was also Rosen.
"If you think so, then so be it."
This answer certainly wouldn't satisfy Megan, but the blonde news anchor had no other choice.
Lawson has deleted all the previous videos, leaving only the last crucial video.
Because the resolution of DV cameras at that time was quite poor, only 640×480, and Megan was quite far away at the time, the picture was very blurry.
On the other hand, if Megan had been nearby, she would have been spotted by the killer much earlier.
However, Rosen could still tell from the footage that Martin Bonanno Jr. had been murdered by a young man with dark hair.
"Little Martin was murdered? And the killer seems to be someone he knows?"
Rosen quickly analyzed the footage and gleaned some information: Martin's act of getting out of the car and opening his arms meant he knew the killer, and their relationship was definitely not ordinary.
At least an ordinary person would definitely not let Martin take the initiative to hug them.
Strangely, Rosen felt the killer looked very familiar, as if he had seen him somewhere before, but he couldn't quite place him.
"I think so too. Maybe the killer is someone from within the Bonanno family! I have a feeling this murder was meticulously planned, otherwise why would the Los Angeles Police Department suddenly lay a trap at the foot of Mount San Antonio?"
Megan's words reminded Rosen of a piece of intelligence from the thermal tracking mission.
"Wait for me!"
