America: Starting with the Last Liberty

Chapter 53 Sudden Onset of Serious Illness

Eight o'clock in the morning, Malibu, Bonanno Estate.

This is the Bonanno family's breakfast time; old Martin is used to having breakfast with his family at this time.

Although it is already the 21st century, old Martin still retains the traditional Italian customs.

For example, meals will only begin once all family members have arrived.

Sophia, the wife, and Francis, the godson, are already at the table, but Martin Jr., the son, has yet to appear.

This greatly displeased old Martin.

"Where's Martin?"

Francis responded immediately after hearing Old Martin's words.

"Young Master Martin went out last night and hasn't returned yet."

"That brat has definitely been out fooling around again! When will he ever mature?"

Old Martin slammed his hand on the table, looking extremely angry.

Sofia was lost in thought when she was startled by Old Martin's actions.

After a long pause, Old Martin regained his composure and looked at Sophia.

"Forget it! Let's not wait for him, let's just eat!"

Sofia quickly had the servants bring up breakfast, while old Martin, while slicing Italian ham, asked Francis a question.

"Francis, how's the matter I asked you to do going?"

"Godfather, I've acquired a bank called Saint Martin, and most of the gold has already been transferred there. The bank's accounts are very clean, and it can help expand some of the family's businesses..."

Old Martin listened to Francis's work report while eating breakfast.

"A very good plan! Francis, go ahead and do it! Ah, if only Martin were as good as you!"

These words made Francis's expression less than pleasant, but unfortunately, old Martin was eating and didn't notice.

Sophia noticed Francis's strange expression, but she said nothing.

Although Sofia was nominally the mistress of the manor, she had never truly integrated into Bonanno's family.

The dark-haired woman was like a precious vase that old Martin had bought, seemingly only there to add color to the manor.

However, Francis quickly composed himself and adopted his usual humble expression.

"Godfather, young Master Martin is just too young."

"What do you mean too young? He's already 21! When I was his age, I had already come to this country from Italy alone and built the Bonanno family from scratch! And what is he doing? All he does is race cars! It's infuriating!"

Old Martin got angrier and angrier as he spoke, to the point that he had trouble breathing.

Sofia quickly came over and gently patted old Martin's back.

"Martin, the doctor told you to control your emotions!"

Old Martin took several deep breaths, and with Sophia's help, his breathing returned to normal.

"Francis, when Martin returns, tell him to come see me immediately! I'm going to teach him a lesson!"

With that, old Martin stood up with Sophia's help, ready to leave the restaurant.

Just then, a somewhat overweight old man suddenly rushed in.

"Mr. Bonanno, something's happened!"

"Luca, what happened?"

"Mr. Bonanno, young Master Martin has been beaten to death!"

"What did you say?"

Old Martin didn't react at first, until Luca repeated it, then he clutched his chest and fell backward.

Sofia was too weak to support old Martin, so Francis quickly reached out to help.

"Luca, who...did this?"

At this point, Old Martin could no longer control his body or his mouth, and his speech became slurred and unclear.

However, those around him could still barely understand what Old Martin meant.

"Judging from the situation at the scene, it was probably done by the Irish mafia."

The Irish mafia has always been a long-time adversary of the Mafia, and is one of the few American gangs capable of directly confronting the Mafia.

Historically, the Irish migrated to the United States in large numbers in the mid-19th century due to famine. In order to survive, they began to band together for mutual support, which is the reason for the birth of Irish gangs.

Therefore, the Irish mafia actually appeared in America earlier than the Italian mafia.

The Italian Mafia rose to power through Prohibition, becoming the kingpin of America's underworld, but they also quickly became a key target of the federal government.

During this period, the Irish mafia, along with other gangs, successfully seized the opportunity to fill the gaps in the underground order left by the Mafia.

Nowadays, Irish gangs actually possess the power to directly confront the Mafia, and clashes between the two sides frequently occur.

"No! Impossible... It's an Irishman..."

Although his body was out of control, Old Martin's mind was still relatively clear, and he quickly realized that the murderer was trying to frame the Irish mafia.

Unfortunately, by then, no one could understand what Old Martin was saying.

"Mr. Bonanno, you must hang in there!"

Everyone around was very anxious, and Francis stepped forward at that moment.

"Godmother Sofia, call the hospital immediately! Luca, with Godfather in this state and Young Master Martin murdered by the Irish mafia, we must do something!"

Luca rubbed his face and looked at the young man in front of him.

"Francis, what are your thoughts?"

"We must immediately gather the family's top officials to prevent anything from happening while the Godfather is unconscious!"

Luca thought about it for a moment and felt that Francis made a lot of sense, so he nodded in agreement.

"I'll contact the family executives! Francis, you'll be in charge of things at the manor for now."

After saying that, Luca hurriedly left Bonanno Manor.

Soon, an ambulance arrived at Bonanno Manor and took the unconscious old Martin to Mercy Hospital.

(Does anyone know the origin of this hospital?)

A few hours later, Cadillacs drove into the private hospital, and a large number of menacing-looking men in black got out of the cars, frightening many patients who immediately called the police.

The patients at this private hospital are all relatively wealthy, so the police arrived very quickly.

"Black Sonny, what do you want?"

"Officer, we're not here to cause trouble. Mr. Bonanno is in a coma; we're just here to visit him."

"That was for the best! I'll be keeping an eye on you!"

After the Los Angeles police arrived and uttered a few harsh words, they stood at a distance and watched with complete composure.

Black Sonny ignored the Los Angeles police and headed straight for the hospital's operating room.

Compared to the large group of men in black at the hospital entrance, the area near the operating room was relatively quiet, with only a dozen or so people standing guard at the entrance.

Among them were Francis, Luca, and Sofia.

However, Sofia sat alone in the corner, lost in thought, not with anyone else.

Black Sonny had his men stand guard outside the corridor, then walked toward Luca.

"Mr. Pastore (Luca), what exactly happened? Why did Mr. Bonanno suddenly fall ill?"
