America: Starting with the Last Liberty

Chapter 69 It's all for your own good

Rosen and Blake both enjoyed the dinner very much, and Blake's gaze towards Rosen was almost drooling.

"Blake, what are we going to do after dinner?"

Blake glanced out the window at the Ferris wheel on the Santa Monica pier, probably the most eye-catching structure on the beach at night.

"Rosen, how about we go ride the Ferris wheel?"

"Okay, let's go then."

When it came time to pay the bill, Rosen still didn't let Blake pay, knowing that the other was just a college student and didn't have much pocket money.

However, the prices at Bubba Gum Shrimp Company are not that high. This seafood restaurant, which mainly serves shrimp dishes, is only a mid-range restaurant.

The restaurant is difficult to book because its owner, Forrest Gan, is a celebrity who has been received by three presidents.

Blake enthusiastically took Rosen's hand and led him to queue at the bottom of the Ferris wheel.

It's around 7 p.m. now, which is peak time for Ferris wheel rides, and there's a long queue at the bottom of the Ferris wheel.

It will take at least half an hour for Rosen and Blake to get a turn.

But Blake wasn't impatient at all; she felt incredibly happy just standing with Rosen.

Rosen felt that piercing chill again, as if a pair of murderous eyes were staring at him.

"Rosen, what's wrong?"

"It's nothing, maybe the sea breeze is a bit chilly tonight."

"Is the sea breeze cool?"

Blake looked at Rosen strangely.

It's already June, which is summer in Los Angeles, so there's hardly any cool breeze on Santa Monica Beach at this time.

Many of the people strolling on the beach were wearing swimsuits.

However, Blake didn't think much of it, because it was almost their turn.

After buying their tickets, the two entered a gondola and waited for the Ferris wheel to start running.

"Rosen, have you ever heard a legend?"

"What legend?"

"If a couple kisses atop the Ferris wheel on Santa Monica Beach, their love will last forever!"

Blake's eyes gleamed, and his expression seemed very expectant.

Rosen couldn't help but chuckle. It seemed like every Ferris wheel had this kind of legend; it was definitely something the merchants made up to fool young girls.

And you know what? This legend is quite effective. Blake insisted on riding the Ferris wheel just now, so he's probably waiting here.

"So, Ms. Gaines, would you like to kiss me at the top of the Ferris wheel?"

Blake's smile was clearly about to burst out, but he tried to hide it.

"That depends on your sincerity!"

As their gondola gradually rose, Blake became the most nervous.

"Rosen, you have to kiss right at the peak, otherwise it won't work!"

"Okay, I'll do as you say."

Blake stared intently at the location of the pod, more focused than a seasoned stock trader.

"Kiss me now!"

Rosen readily agreed, grabbed Blake, and gave him a passionate kiss.

Blake quickly became engrossed in the kiss, not even noticing when the gondola reached the bottom.

"Is it over?"

Blake, who had been released by Rosen, still looked like she was dreaming; she felt as if she were having a beautiful dream.

"Blake, we should go down now."

Rosen's gaze swept over the crowd outside. Just moments before, when he had kissed Blake, that piercing chill had returned for the third time, and this time it was particularly intense.

"Let's go down!"

Blake took Rosen's hand and got off the Ferris wheel gondola. She was still savoring the feeling and even wanted to ride the Ferris wheel again.

But at that moment, Rosen suddenly received a phone call.

"Wait a mininute."

Rosen took out his phone and glanced at the number on the screen; it was Dominic's new number.

Could it be that there's news about Luca Pastore?

"Hey, Dominic, what brings you to call me at this hour?"

"Rosen, something's happened! I need your help!"

Upon hearing this, Rosen knew it definitely wasn't about Luca Pastore.

"What happened?"

"You said it wasn't convenient over the phone, you'd better come to Letty's apartment, we can talk in person!"

After saying that, Dominic hung up the phone.

Rosen frowned as he looked at his phone. He noticed a new message pop-up on the Harvest Day app, which probably meant that Dominic had a new job.

Blake noticed that Rosen's expression was off.

"Rosen, what happened?"

"My friend seems to be in some trouble and wants my help."

"Oh, I see. Then you should go and help!"

"But you rarely go on dates with me..."

Hearing that Rosen cared so much about his feelings, Blake smiled sweetly.

"It's not like we're only going on one date. Besides, once you've helped your friend out of her troubles, we can continue!"

Rosen nodded emphatically.

"Okay, I'll take you back to my new apartment first. You can wait for me there."

Blake naturally understood Rosen's subtext, and a faint blush appeared on his cheeks.

"Um!"

After dropping Blake off at his new apartment, Rosen drove his Dodge Viper to Letty's apartment.

Seeing the cozy decor and location of the Loft apartment, Blake assumed that it was the apartment that Rosen had specifically rented as their little nest.

"What a scoundrel to have hidden such a surprise!"

Blake was just about to experience the bathroom in Rosen's new home when her phone suddenly rang. The number on the screen made her turn pale.

But since the call had already come through, Blake had to answer it no matter how unwilling she was, otherwise the caller would really come to her.

"Hello, Dad? Why are you calling me all of a sudden?"

"Blake, where are you right now?"

"Now? I'm in my dorm, of course!"

"Still lying! I saw you go upstairs with that Asian kid!"

Upon hearing this, Blake immediately became anxious.

"What! Dad, how could you follow me!"

"I was planning to pick you up for a family dinner today, but then I saw you get into that Asian kid's car!"

"Were you already following me back then?"

"Listen, Blake! I checked that kid's background. His record is very vague, clearly suspicious. He might even be a spy or something. You'd better stay away from him!"

"I don't want to hear this. All I know is that you're not only spying on your wife, but also on your daughter! Are you insane?"

The only answer Blake received was that classic one.

"Blake, everything your father did was for your own good!"

"I don't want to hear this!"

Blake felt his privacy had been severely violated.

"Blake, open the door first, I'll show you the evidence!"

Ray Gaines was already outside the apartment.

"But I don't want to see you!"

"Blake, don't force me to break down the door!"

Knowing that his father might actually break down the door, Blake had no choice but to open it.

(Blake Gaines)
