America: Starting with the Last Liberty
Chapter 71 All you need to do is obey orders!
"Dominic, are you really sure Johnny Chen's target is only me?"
Dominic frowned at these words.
"Rosen, what does this mean?"
"There's an old saying at our Dongda University: 'The person who knows you best is always your rival!' Johnny Chen is your old rival too. He couldn't possibly be unaware that if he targeted Mia, you'd be his sworn enemy. So, his initial plan was probably to wipe out both me and you all!"
Dominic immediately understood Rosen's meaning. Despite his burly appearance, he actually had some street smarts.
"So this was a trap; Johnny Chen never intended to let Mia go!"
"Yes, if we go straight to that Korean restaurant now, we'll probably fall into Johnny Chen's trap!"
"So what should we do now?"
Rosen's gaze swept over everyone in the Toledo gang, focusing on Brian.
With the Bonanno family's support, Johnny Chen's side definitely can't rely solely on Rosen and the Toledo gang; it would be best to seek external assistance.
The Los Angeles Police Department might be the external force that can be utilized.
"Dominic, we first need to find out about that Korean restaurant. Ideally, we should send someone in as an inside man!"
Jesse agreed with this.
"Rosen is right, but we all know Johnny Chen, how did we get in?"
"Who said they all know each other? Isn't there a newcomer here?"
Rosen pointed at Brian, who immediately looked surprised.
"What? You want me to infiltrate that Korean restaurant?"
Dominic thought Brian was scared, after all, that Korean restaurant was now a den of thieves.
"Brian, we need your help! You joined us after the underground racing season, and Johnny Chen probably doesn't know you. You're definitely the most suitable candidate!"
Brian wasn't actually scared; he was just a little surprised that he'd been given such a difficult task so soon after joining the group.
In fact, Brian was eager to act alone, as this would give him the opportunity to contact his superiors.
So the blond youth pounded his chest.
"Boss Tang, stop talking! I accept the mission. I'll go to the Korean restaurant right now to gather information!"
Dominic, unaware of Brian's ulterior motives, thought Brian was simply being loyal and was deeply moved.
Dominic patted Brian on the shoulder forcefully and nodded emphatically.
"Thank you, Brian! From now on, you're my half-brother, Dominic's half-brother!"
Dominic's grip was quite strong, and Brian was slapped so hard he winced.
Rosen looked sympathetic; he had suffered a similar loss before Iron Man Ace was even around.
Brian left, departing from Letty's apartment and returning to his car.
After confirming that he was not being followed, Brian immediately called his new boss.
After Vincent Murphy was killed by Downey, he was treated as missing because his body was never found.
America's policy is that a murder case can only be filed if a body is found; otherwise, it can only be treated as a missing person case, because a large number of people go missing in this country every day.
Otherwise, why would the country that receives the most immigrants in the world have not seen a significant change in its population over the past few decades?
Donnie had abandoned his police career and fled to Texas with his pregnant wife. Brian chose to re-contact the Los Angeles Police Department, and after investigating his situation, he was assigned a new superior.
However, Brian did not reveal the matter between Donnie and the Joker, which shows his loyalty.
"Officer Bradford, this is Brian O'Connor."
"O'Connor? You're calling me so late, has something serious happened?"
"Yes, it's a very troublesome situation. The Toledo gang might be going to clash with the Johnny gang!"
"What? Tell me the details right now!"
Brian briefly recounted the whole story, but because he was talking while driving, he inadvertently revealed Rosen's involvement.
"So Dominic Toledo really does know the driver of that purple Dodge Viper?"
Brian opened his mouth, instinctively feeling that although Rosen was speeding, he hadn't actually done anything wrong.
On the contrary, it was Johnny Chen who kidnapped the innocent Mia Toledo, and that was the truly heinous act.
"Yes, but..."
Why didn't you tell me about this sooner!
But Officer Bradford clearly didn't think that way. As a member of the Los Angeles Police Department, his first thought was to catch the Dodge Viper driver who had embarrassed the department.
Bradford didn't care at all about the Johnny's gang clashing with the Toledo gang, as long as it didn't affect ordinary people.
Ideally, both bikers would die together, which would save the Los Angeles police a lot of trouble and reduce the pressure on America's prison system.
Brian had no choice but to lie to his boss.
"Sir, I only found out about this today!"
Bradford had no doubts, because Brian had always been quite obedient since he came under his command and would report his work on time.
"Is it safe for you to call me now?"
"Dominic Toledo sent me to infiltrate a Korean restaurant to gather information, and I'm currently driving to Johnny Chen's Korean restaurant."
"Very good. Go to the Korean restaurant first, but don't make any rash moves. If anything happens, message me immediately and wait for my orders!"
"Wait! Sir, but Johnny Chen has been kidnapped..."
"You just need to obey orders!"
The phone beeped, indicating that Bradford had hung up.
"Damn it!"
Brian dialed the number again, but only heard a mechanical female voice on the other end.
"The user you are trying to reach is currently on another call. Please try again later!"
"Fuck!"
Brian cursed, threw his phone on the passenger seat, and stepped on the gas, heading towards downtown Los Angeles.
Dominic was still somewhat uneasy in Letty's apartment.
"Rosen, are we just going to sit here and wait for news from Brian?"
"Of course not! Vehicles, weapons, and operational plans all need to be properly prepared. What do you think?"
Jesse nodded immediately.
"Vehicles aren't a problem! Boss Tang's car is repaired, and with our own vehicles, that should be enough!"
"What about the weapons?"
Dominic looked at Vince.
"Boss Tang, we only have some pistols, no other weapons."
"Then let's go buy it!"
A few pistols were definitely not enough, and Dominic immediately became anxious.
Rosen patted Dominic on the shoulder, trying to calm him down.
"What gun shop would be open in the middle of the night? Don't worry, the deal is tomorrow night, we have plenty of time! Now all we need to do is wait for Brian's message, research the area around that Korean restaurant, and then wait for the right opportunity!"
Dominic eventually shut his mouth.
