America: Starting with the Last Liberty

Chapter 77 Instincts Engraved in the Bone

For this operation, Alberto acquired a batch of silencers to mount on submachine guns, and the men in black who fired the shots were actually Johnny Chen's men.

Because only those who work with Johnny Chen will not leak the information.

After a burst of gunfire, only three people remained in the luxury box. These three people were Francis's supporters, and they would become very important "witnesses" tonight.

"Is everything settled?"

"Mr. Bruno, there are still a few who aren't quite dead yet."

Johnny Chen answered Alberto.

Alberto never imagined that one day he would be addressed as "sir".

This "sir" is not the same as the "sir" used to address strangers; it signifies Alberto's rise in status within the Bonanno family.

"Then give the guns to these three gentlemen. Since they want to join Mr. Richie, they need to prove their sincerity first."

This is the pledge of allegiance, and it has been the same throughout history.

The three team leaders who supported Francis had no choice but to finish off their colleagues; otherwise, Johnny Chen's men would shoot them as well.

Alberto nodded in satisfaction.

"Chen, I'm taking these three people away. The rest is up to you. Just proceed according to plan."

"Don't worry, Mr. Bruno, I'll handle everything!"

Alberto patted Johnny Chen on the shoulder, then led the three grim-faced team leaders out of the VIP box.

It was 10:30.

Johnny Chen glanced at the time, then signaled to his men to get ready.

Not long after, a car pulled up in front of the Korean restaurant, and three men got out: a burly bald man and two other men.

After the three got out of the car, they found that the door of the Korean restaurant was wide open, but there was no one inside.

"Boss Tang, what does this mean?"

Dominic looked into the distance, as if searching for something, but unfortunately he saw nothing.

"We'll find out when we go in. Let's go!"

The three entered the Korean restaurant, and Vince called out.

"Johnny Chen, the Toledo gang is here!"

No one responded, which made the three members of the Toledo gang feel very strange.

"Is Johnny Chen scared?"

Vince scratched his head.

"Let's search the restaurant first!"

Through Brian's earlier inquiries disguised as a customer, the three of them had a general understanding of the Korean restaurant.

This restaurant is a two-story detached house. The first floor has a hall and kitchen, the second floor has several private rooms, and there is a cold storage in the basement to store ingredients.

The search of the first floor yielded nothing; there were no employees in the restaurant, and Johnny Chen was nowhere to be seen.

Dominic then looked towards the stairwell, and Jesse hesitated for a moment, seemingly a little timid.

"Boss Tang, could there be an ambush up there?"

Vince, who was standing nearby, slapped Jesse on the back.

"What are you talking about? Even if there's an ambush, we're still going for it! Right, Boss Dom?"

Dominic nodded.

"That's right! Even if there's an ambush, we'll still go! You guys act according to the situation, don't be impulsive!"

With that, Dominic led the way up the stairs.

The second-floor corridor was very dark, with only one private room door open. The main source of light in the corridor was the light coming from that private room.

The Toledo gang cautiously approached the treasure chest, only to find that Mia was the only one inside, tied to a chair; there was no one else.

"Where's Johnny Chen?"

Jesse asked instinctively, as this situation was truly unexpected.

Dominic didn't care about any of that. He rushed forward to check on his sister and found that Mia was just unconscious and there were no strange marks on her body. Then the bald man quickly untied Mia.

Just then, the sound of submachine guns suddenly rang out from the next private room.

The gunshot startled the three members of the Toledo gang, who immediately dropped to the ground without hesitation.

This is purely an instinct ingrained in the bones of American people; those who lack even this kind of reaction are destined to be eliminated by American society.

Meanwhile, several groups of people lying in ambush near the Korean restaurant heard the sound of submachine guns, because this time the submachine guns were not silenced.

"Where did the gunshot come from?"

Nathan Neil nervously picked up the walkie-talkie and asked his subordinates.

"Sir, it seems to be coming from the Korean restaurant!"

"What did you say? Damn it!"

Nathan Neal was Rosen's supplier. After receiving information about Rosen, he arranged for people to monitor the Korean restaurant for a day, and then personally went to the scene to direct operations that night.

Neil had already seen the Bonanno family leaders enter the Korean restaurant earlier.

However, Neil was greedy and wanted to wait and see if he could catch a big fish, so he didn't send his men to act.

But now, gunshots have been fired in Korean restaurants; if we don't act now, it will be too late.

Neil then turned on the walkie-talkie to contact his men.

"Get in there immediately, quick!"

The FBI's operation left another group of people bewildered: the Los Angeles Police Department.

Brian's boss, Tim Bradford, angrily turned on the walkie-talkie and yelled.

"Fuck! Who gave you permission to move out?"

Tim Bradford's target was always the Asian youth driving the purple Dodge Viper, so he was very unhappy about someone suddenly taking action.

"Boss, it wasn't our people who went on this mission!"

"If it's not one of ours, then it could be... Fuck! It's the FBI!"

Several Chevrolet Suburbans that suddenly appeared had obvious FBI markings on them.

(Chevrolet Suburban, many departments of America use this series of vehicles)

"Damn it! Move out, move out now! We can't let the FBI beat us to it!"

Regardless of what the FBI is up to, Bradford, as a member of the LAPD, cannot let them steal the case from him, or he'll be in serious trouble when he gets back to the police station.

So, the FBI agents and the LAPD agents faced off in front of the Korean restaurant, staring at each other in an extremely awkward atmosphere.

Neil stepped forward and glared angrily at the Los Angeles police officers who were obstructing the FBI's operation.

"Who is your commander? Why are you trying to stop the FBI operation?"

Bradford stepped forward as well; he couldn't back down at a time like this.

"I've received a tip that there's been a kidnapping at this restaurant! The LAPD is here to arrest the suspect! Where's the FBI?"

These words made Neil frown. He couldn't possibly reveal that the Bonanno family's leader was holding a gathering there, otherwise the LAPD might start investigating the matter as well.

"I also received a call to the police; someone was being kidnapped at this restaurant..."

"What do you mean? A kidnapping occurred, and instead of reporting it to the LAPD, someone went to the FBI?"

Well, the FBI usually handles interstate or major cases. A kidnapping case obviously doesn't qualify for that level of investigation, unless the kidnapped person is the mayor's daughter.

So Bradford felt that Neil was fooling him.

Just then, the sound of sirens came from not far away, and several more LAPD police cars drove up.

Neil and Bradford were both completely bewildered.

What are you people doing?

"Sir, we just received a report of a murder at this Korean restaurant!"

Neil immediately sensed that something was wrong.

"Is the LAPD's response time really that fast?"
