Monster Hunter in League of Legends

Chapter 15: Weapon Upgrade

Dragon Vein Alchemy and Dragon Vein Forging are essentially methods of utilizing the ecology, life energy, and physiological characteristics of monsters. One focuses on the conversion of energy, and the other focuses on the conversion of matter.

A flood of knowledge rushed into his mind, and it took Tallinn quite a while to recover.

After digesting this knowledge, Tarlin got up and went to have breakfast with Nidalee.

Although he had already eaten a meal early in the morning, Rengar didn't seem to care much. He picked up a lamb leg that he had saved from last night and began to eat it heartily.

"You're eating so much for breakfast, can your stomach handle it?" Tallinn couldn't help but ask.

"It's alright, it's mainly my body's need." Hearing Tarin's question, Rengar tore off a large piece of meat, chewed it up quickly, and swallowed it, saying:

"Flesh-toothed beasts don't have the habit of eating breakfast, but my body is currently undergoing a second development, so my energy needs are a bit high. Since you're also eating breakfast, I'll take a bite too... After all, I just finished a fight and lost a drop of blood, so I'm quite tired."

After hearing Rengar's explanation, Tarin nodded and then said:

"Then eat more. The secret medicine can stimulate the body's potential and replenish nutrition in time. Once we're out there, it can make up for congenital deficiencies, and maybe even make us grow taller than the normal height of a flesh-toothed beast."

Upon hearing this, Ryan Galton paused, then nodded and said, "Then you have to eat more."

As he said this, Rengar began to bite even more aggressively.

Rengar can eat raw meat, but Tarin obviously can't accept it—although the sensory enhancement brought by the Odogaron allows Tarin to accept the smell of blood as a kind of 'umami', in human form, Tarin still finds it hard to accept the sight of his chest and arms covered in blood from tearing and biting during the process of eating.

Furthermore, no matter how delicious the bloody smell of the Odogaron might be, it pales in comparison to the hundreds of aromatic substances produced during the Maillard reaction.

Tarin took out a baking pan from his inventory, heated it, and placed the ribs inside. Once both sides were browned, he added butter, salt, and a suitable amount of spices. When they were almost done, he took them out and cut them into two portions. One was given to Nidalee, and the other he kept for himself.

Nidalee was eating it for the first time, and a slight surprise appeared on her face, followed by a clear joy. Before long, she finished her portion.

Although wild animals are often perceived as eating only raw meat, cooked meat with salt is actually considered a delicacy for them.

Almost all terrestrial animals need salt because it helps muscles contract, which is crucial for hunting and escaping. Salt is also closely related to nerve signal transmission and the body's water balance.

Since salt is extremely rare in nature, for Nidalee, consuming large amounts of salt and then storing it is an instinctive behavior.

Contrary to popular belief, animals can sense the aromatic substances produced by the Maillard reaction. Furthermore, cooked food is easier to digest and absorb due to protein denaturation and is free of bacteria… It's fair to say that carnivores naturally prefer the taste of cooked meat.

The only less pleasant part was the spices, so Tarlin added only a very small amount, making the flavor of these spices barely perceptible to Nidalee, simply to remove any unpleasant odors.

Even so, Nidalee still enjoyed the meal very much.

When they reached Tarin, he took a bite of the roasted meat and recalled the roasted meat made by the Grand Master, the Palico Meat General, at the Starry Sky Outpost... Tarin's face showed a slightly strained smile, and then he silently put half of the roasted meat on Nidalee's plate and barely finished it.

Nidalee clearly had no intention of refusing. After finishing her meal, she even licked her lips with lingering relish, her mouth glistening with oil. She showed none of the restraint expected of a traditional human woman, displaying the wildness of the wilderness.

Seeing that they had almost finished eating and were beginning their post-meal rest, Tarin turned to Nidalee and asked, "Speaking of which, Nidalee, was there something you wanted to ask me?"

"Yes, mainly the transformation."

Upon hearing Tarin's question, Nidalee wiped her mouth and said, "When you fought that flesh-toothed beast, it seemed like you transformed into a half-dragon, half-human state? How did you do that? Can I do that too?"

Upon hearing this, Tarlin did not rush to a conclusion, but stared at Nidalee for a while.

Although Tarin itself is not a life form of Runeterra, through the system's neutralization, Tarin's ecology can be observed and analyzed on both the energy and material levels through Dragonvein Alchemy and Dragonvein Forging.

After sensing it for a moment...

"Theoretically, it should be possible," Tarin said. "Shapeshifters can switch between one or more species forms. Once you understand the balance between the human and Paka jungle cat forms, you'll be able to do something like... cat-human transformation?... or catgirl transformation? or something like that."

"Oh." Upon hearing this, Nidalee nodded thoughtfully.

Before meeting Tarin, Nidalee was able to transform into human form, but she had never really used it properly.

More often than not, it's just about handling things that are difficult to deal with in daily life, such as picking or grinding herbs.

Now, thanks to Tarlin's development, Nidalee is gradually learning the many wonderful uses of human form—such as a more flexible body, a more coordinated layout, and a purer explosive power compared to her jungle cat form.

Mastering the balance between the two forms will give rise to the third form...

With her human form not yet fully mastered, Nidalee could clearly sense that balancing the two forms would only become more difficult. Thinking this, she looked at Tarin beside her and nudged him with her head.

Sensing Nidalee's overtures, Tarin nodded gently and said, "Actually, I don't know much about dragon transformation either, so let me familiarize myself with it first, and then I'll study it in more depth little by little."

Although he was able to enter dragon form, Tarlin was not actually very skilled at using it.

Ultimately, in the Monster Hunter world, Tarin spent most of his time active in human-inhabited planets, and his few hunts were limited to the outer areas of the Ancient Forest. Under these circumstances, Tarin had no opportunity to use his dragon form—

You either hunt with other hunters, in which case you can't freely transform. Or you hunt alone, in which case transforming directly into a griffin would be safer and more powerful. Even if you are discovered, it will only trigger some ecological investigations.

But once the dragon-human transformation is discovered...

While the Monster Hunter world does have dragonkin and ancient dragonkin, these dragonkin are completely different from the dragonkinization of Tarin. They are independent intelligent life forms, not simply bloodlines.

Hmm... Considering that highly intelligent Ancestral Dragon who suddenly threw a black hole at me back then, perhaps the player's joke about the Ancient Dragon turning into a human might actually be true?

With that in mind, Tarin didn't delve too deeply into it, since he was currently in Runeterra.

Upon hearing Tarin's words, Nidalee nodded slowly with an "Mmm," indicating that there was no problem.

Tallinn didn't stop there. Instead, he looked at the two of them and said, "Speaking of which, give me all your weapons."

"Um?"

Upon hearing this, Rengar readily handed the hunting knife to Tarin, then asked with some curiosity, "What's wrong? Is there something you need?"

Although weapons are a hunter's second life, Rengar admires Tarlin—both for his strength and character.

Meanwhile, Nidalee handed the bone spear to Tarin without hesitation.

After taking the weapons from the two men, Tarin gave them a quick look and then nodded thoughtfully, saying, "A new round of hunting is about to begin. Let me fix them for you."

"You can do this too?" Upon hearing this, Rengar's face showed a hint of surprise, then he nodded and said, "Whatever, as long as you can recover."

Nidalee didn't speak, but simply nodded silently to indicate that there was no problem.

With the acquisition of Dragon Vein Forging, Tarin gained a deeper understanding of weapon construction. Previously, he had only used Dragon Vein Alchemy to create a simple combination between Tarin's Paralyzing Fang and Nidalee's Bone Spear, allowing the Bone Spear to function properly by injecting venom.

However, now that we have an understanding of the material form of the Dragon Vein Forging Technique, the bone spear that Tarlin crudely joined together using the Dragon Vein Alchemy Technique appears extremely rough.

Unfortunately, the environment and tools were inadequate; there was no furnace to heat the wood or a hammer to forge it. So, Tarlin took out some scales and claws that he had plucked in his spare time from the system and did some simple processing by carving with a knife, binding with leather, and fixing with rivets.

Even so, when Tarlin finished processing it, Nidalee's face still showed great joy as she looked at the brand-new bone spear.

"Your skills have improved again," Nidalee said.

Having been studying technology in human form, Nidalee's understanding of weapons is gradually deepening—in Nidalee's view, human weapons are no different from the fangs of wild beasts.

Now, Nidalee can clearly feel that the weapon's lines are becoming smoother and more powerful, and it is also easier to use.

While the weapon itself is still secured with leather and rivets, its overall integrity has been significantly improved. Without a comparison, the difference might not be immediately apparent, but now, with the weapon upgraded, Nidalee immediately noticed the crude fit and clashes in the previous bone spear.

"Just some gains." Tarin nodded, then poured some paralyzing poison from his teeth into a small vial and handed it to Nidalee, saying, "The tools are still not enough, and the poison still needs to be replenished externally. When we have some suitable tools later, I'll upgrade your weapon properly."

As he said this, Tarin glanced at the bone spear in Nidalee's hand and said, "At that time, this bone spear can be retired with honor."

Once the tools are available, Tarlin will definitely prepare a Odogaron Insect Glaive for Nidalee.

Although Runeterra itself doesn't have Kinsects, Tarin, having mastered Dragonvein Alchemy and Dragonvein Forging, combined with his perception of life energy and life forms, felt that cultivating Kinsects shouldn't be too difficult. From another perspective, Nidalee herself possesses magic, so perhaps she wouldn't even need Kinsects to unleash the full potential of her Insect Glaive.

Thinking this, Tarin also considered forging more weapons later—aside from the back-rubbing move, the other combo moves of the dual swords were very useful against people and small creatures.

There are countless large creatures in Runeterra, so having more weapons on hand will help you deal with different situations.

With the system backpack that can be switched at any time, there's no need to worry about weight or equipment.

Upon hearing that the bone spear was to be retired, Nidalee glanced down at it twice, then looked at Tarin. Recalling that Tarin had made it for her, a complex look appeared in her eyes. She didn't say much, but felt that this weapon might have some special meaning, and she didn't want to just throw it away so casually.

Upon realizing her own thoughts, Nidalee frowned slightly.

Why do I think this way?

For wildlife, discarding useless things is the norm. Like dull claws, they either sharpen them again or bite them off to grow new ones, rather than carefully storing them away as treasures…

Somewhat puzzled as to why, Nidalee didn't dwell on it and simply sat quietly to the side, waiting.

Compared to Nidalee's weapon, Rengar's weapon is far superior in terms of completion—after all, Rengar doesn't have a beast form and mainly fights with his hunting knife.

Even so, after obtaining Rengar's consent, Tarin carved two blood grooves on the blade and fixed them using Dragonvein Alchemy and Dragonvein Forging. He then added a vial to the hilt and filled it with paralyzing agent.

"After causing damage, the substance can flow into the prey's body, paralyzing its torso."

Upon hearing this, Rengar recalled the crucial moment when he suddenly lost control of his body during his battle with Tarin.

Rengar nodded thoughtfully, then asked, "So that's why I couldn't move back then... By the way, what's with the flames on your blade?"

Recalling the paralyzing poison, Rengar also thought of the flames that surrounded the blade when Tarin swung it.

In response, Tarin demonstrated his Odogaron Twin Blades: "Weaponry is about mechanics. If needed, I'll upgrade yours once I get a suitable tool."

As he said this, Tarin also glanced at Rengar's hunting knife.

It's called a hunting knife, but it's actually similar to a one-handed sword without a shield—slightly larger than dual swords, but compared to a normal human's one-handed sword, both one-handed swords and Rengar's hunting knife are considered greatswords for ordinary people.
