Chapter 28 The Hanging Claw Man
The group decided to find the monster first, obtain the blood core, and then deal with the rest.
"Tick-tock~"
A drop of sticky, foul-smelling liquid landed precisely on Ding Ning's cheek.
The pungent, putrid stench instantly filled Ding Ning's nostrils, causing her to shudder. The others also caught a glimpse of the drop of blackish-green liquid and instinctively looked up at the ceiling.
"Holy crap!" Luo Laosan jumped up from his seat when he saw the creature on the ceiling.
It's no wonder it's a high-end restaurant; even with monster saliva dripping from the crystal chandelier, its original luxury remains undiminished.
The others quickly moved away from their seats, staring warily at the humanoid monster on the chandelier.
"What an annoying little mouse, always disturbing my rest time."
"The rats of the past were like this, and the rats of today are like this." The humanoid monster's limbs were twisted at angles that defied the laws of bone growth, and its fingernails gleamed with a dark blue-green light, digging deeply into the carved gaps of the gilded lamp stand.
Its upper body hung upside down, its loose "flesh" swaying on the metal frame, and sticky juice dripped down the edges of the crystal pendant, forming shiny black threads in the warm light.
The languid look in its eyes instantly transformed into a ferocious crimson, and a greedy appetite almost overflowed from its empty pupils: "But, rats may be annoying, they taste really good."
His empty pupils stared unblinkingly at the group as he spoke to himself:
"The second meal is about to begin, and Chef Cassian will definitely love the ingredients I brought."
As soon as it finished speaking, its body began to sway, as if it were very excited. The metal chain of the chandelier creaked under its heavy body. With a slight exertion of its fingertips, the gold-plated coating on the lamp stand peeled off, revealing the dark metal underneath.
"What the hell are you talking about!" Luo Laosan was both scared and angry. He glanced around, grabbed a kitchen knife from the front desk, and threw it with all his might at the humanoid monster.
The cleaver, with a fierce, swift motion, cleaved straight towards the upside-down humanoid monster hanging from the chandelier. The blade grazed the edges of the crystal pendant, sending up a shower of tiny sparks.
The crowd below heard a muffled sizzling sound, as if tiny bits of juice were being squeezed out by the blade. They watched very closely as the cleaver's blade slashed fiercely across one of the humanoid monster's limbs, then struck the ceiling and fell back down.
To everyone's astonishment, the humanoid monster's hand fell from the chandelier.
"Ah~" A piercing scream suddenly rang out, sounding particularly loud in the quiet space of the front desk.
"Ugh! Damn rat!"
"Wow, that's awesome! Luo Laosan, where did you pick up that kitchen knife? It can even hurt monsters." Chu Ling held a table leg in her hand and looked at Luo Laosan in surprise.
"Hey~" Luo Laosan glanced at the front desk and pouted, his tone a mix of lingering fear and smugness.
As the two discussed their techniques, the humanoid monster on the chandelier's eyes were filled with murderous intent. Strangely, its severed hand rapidly grew back under their watchful eyes.
It perched atop the chandelier, high above, making it difficult for people to reach. They could only stare intently at it, not daring to relax their guard for a moment.
"A rat should have the self-awareness of a rat." The monster's voice was icy and chilling.
The humanoid monster leaped down from the chandelier, its sharp ten fingers whistling through the air as it lunged straight at Li San Niang.
Li San Niang's expression was solemn, her whole body tense, and she locked onto the charging humanoid monster.
Just as the humanoid monster was about to touch her, Li San Niang demonstrated her incredible flexibility to the others.
She spread her legs wide, doing a split, her body almost touching the ground, barely dodging the humanoid monster's attack.
Having failed in its first attack, the humanoid monster tried to continue its assault.
"Everyone, attack together! This monster is called the [Clawed Man], it's only a fifth-tier Bronze monster. Be careful of the poison on its claws," Xu Yuanmo provided valuable information.
"Luckily, it was only a fifth-tier bronze monster. If it were a higher level, we might have really been defeated here," Gu Ye muttered to himself.
This hastily assembled group was incredibly fragile and easily broken. Xu Yuanmo shouted for everyone to join in, but no one took the lead; they were all wary of each other's teammates.
"What a ridiculous species." The Clawed Man stuck out his tongue and licked the juice off his claws.
Before he could finish speaking, a gust of wind swept by, and the [Clawed Man] vanished from the spot.
"Be careful!"
The [Clawed Man] reappeared behind Old Man Sun. Before anyone else could react, with a "whoosh!" sound, its sharp claws pierced through Old Man Sun's head.
Old Sun's body stiffened, his eyes widened in disbelief, and a few seconds later he collapsed to the ground, lifeless.
Those who witnessed this scene widened their eyes, their eyelids twitching uncontrollably.
"No, we have to go together, or we'll all die." Gu Ye's deep voice reached the others' ears.
The others looked at Gu Ye and nodded in agreement. The [Clawed Man] was too fast; they couldn't escape it. The only way for everyone to survive was to kill it.
Xu Yuanmo's gaze swept over Gu Ye, his face expressionless, but a fleeting glint of greed flashed in his eyes.
"Go!" Gu Ye commanded.
Chu Ling and Ye Suxuan rushed out first, each holding a table leg in their hands, moving nimbly.
Two table legs appeared in the dark eye sockets of the [Clawed Man], and a mocking look rose in its eyes.
It brandished its two sharp claws and swung them heavily at the two of them. Ye Suxuan caught a glimpse of a figure appearing behind the [Clawed Man].
Her eyes darted around, sending signals to Chu Ling, who nodded slightly to indicate that she understood.
The illusory shadows of the two table legs were starkly reflected in the dark eye sockets of the [Clawed Man].
A fierce mockery flashed in its eyes, and its sharp claws danced in the air, striking the two of them heavily.
Out of the corner of her eye, Ye Suxuan noticed a figure silently appear behind the [Clawed Man]. Her eyes flashed, and she quickly sent a concealed signal to Chu Ling.
Chu Ling understood immediately and nodded subtly.
Just as the claws were about to touch the table leg, Chu Ling and the other person seemed to have a telepathic connection, simultaneously withdrawing the table leg they were attacking and turning their bodies to dodge to the side.
The Clawed Man's claws missed their target, but it still tried to attack.
A sound of air being cut rang out from behind it. Li San Niang, holding the kitchen knife that Luo Lao San had just picked up, slashed it hard in the back.
With a soft "plop," the blade sliced through the rough skin of the [Clawed Man], drawing out a trickle of dark red liquid.
Li San Niang jumped onto it, her legs tightly clamping around its waist. She gripped the cleaver she was using to cut its body with both hands, and pressed down hard, causing the blade to sink into its flesh once again.
【Clawed Man】was pinned to the ground. It let out a sharp roar, twisted its body, and struggled to get up, trying to throw Li San Niang off it.
"Now!" Ye Suxuan shouted, and with a flick of his wrist, the table leg in his hand seemed to carry a thousand pounds of force, slamming hard onto his wrist.
"Bang!" A dull thud rang out, and a crack appeared in the table leg. Chu Ling seized the opportunity and stabbed one of the table legs into its other hand. As combat card masters, their powerful physical bodies played a suppressive role.
"Ah~"
"Rat, you deserve to die!" It clenched its claws, its muscles tensed, and it shouted and struggled to get up.
"We'll help too!" The Stone Sword brothers ran over and each held down one of the Clawed Man's feet.
The five of them exerted their strength together and suppressed it.
Yan Shuangling took the same table leg, walked to the side of the [Clawed Man], her eyes sharp, and plunged it hard into its neck.
"You, uh... uh..."
She pressed down hard on the table leg, and seeing that it still had the strength to struggle, Li San Niang pulled out the kitchen knife embedded in its body with both hands and chopped it down along the wound on its neck.
"Snap!"
The crisp sound of bones breaking was clearly audible. The head of the [Clawed Man] was cleaved off and rolled to the side, its empty eyes still staring intently at the crowd. Its body twitched a few times before becoming completely still, blackish-red blood gushing out, staining the ground a mess.
