Leave A Scar
Chapter 72 - One Last Promise
In the dead of night, I spoke of our adventures. Our way of speaking to one another through touch, kiss, stroke...
All our transmissions, throughout the course of those months. And I felt that love for me begin again.
He got ticked, the anger self directed when I finally mentioned his words. Ones spoken on a moonlit rooftop, words that had shattered me and cast me further into isolation.
I nearly told him it wasn't his fault, but my brain held my tongue. He needed to feel what he had caused me. He needed to understand why he could never do something like that again.
He needed to know the hell, the death, he had spiraled me into.
We kept traveling, while Alphonse stayed behind in Xing.
Those moments were some of the best in my life. But it's for another document, another scrawl of my pen.
Al's spirit was with us, as train tracks became pavement, and sidewalks lead us to the opening of a white picket fence.
Here we were, where our adventure began. But why did Ed want to go to the beginning?
What purpose...?
And I turned, noticing he was wearing that smile again.
He moved, becoming shorter than I was, and slowly, two knelt knees became one. "The first thought I had, when I woke up, was 'fall in love again.'"
A small box opened, ring shining.
"And I have."
My heart stopped and kickstarted again all at once.
"So, if you'll have me, Mirah..."
And the grin on my face was so wide, it surpassed Ed's. I told him yes, I told him of course, I told him I would. And I met him in an embrace, signaling the beginning of our engagement.
It was the beginning of a new, greater adventure. Through and through.
