116. The Problem

“Haven’t you noticed anything wrong, my dear disciple?”

Right now, with a folding fan in his hand, Du Chuxuan stared at the man in the arena at ease. Based on experience, the first ones up stage ‘wouldn’t be martial arts masters normally. Most of them were here just to make a name for themselves. So, not many people paid attention to that kind of participants.

Jiu Dengdan’s question threw Du Chuxuan into a pause. He wondered when Jiu Dengdan learned voice transmission as he looked at the arena without batting an eyelid.

The cultivation method the man who introduced himself as Lei Yuan used didn’t seem superior. Yet he was extremely nimble with his weapon probably because of his small build. If he kept working on enhancing the power of his wrists, he could become somebody one day.

To be honest, Du Chuxuan hadn’t found anything wrong yet. After a moment of thought, he replied through the transmission route established by Jiu Dengdan, “If you have found any problems, just give it to me straight. That’ll save us both the trouble. Besides, is this man next to me…”

He didn’t need to finish the question for Jiu Dengdan to understand him.

Jiu Dengdan, sitting behind him, had seen him and the man as soon as they entered the room. He had to admit, for a moment, he thought the man was Ahshina Yi, yet the man didn’t act or speak like him.

“I’m not sure. You are the one who grew up with him, aren’t you? If I hadn’t known you weren’t homosexual, I would have thought you were getting married.” Jiu Dengdan burst out laughing. He left the man in red behind and turned his attention to the center of the arena, to Lei Yuan.

“Lei Yuan’s cultivation method is quite eerie. I seldom see people in Wulin without aura of death. You are already an exception for you haven’t spent much time practicing martial arts. He has less murderous aura than you do.”

Du Chuxuan paused for a second. Right now, he didn’t have time to fuss about Jiu Dengdan’s mean remark anymore. “Are you serious?” He wasn’t as good at cultivation method as Jiu Dengdan was so he couldn’t see the aura of death.

He needed to get in the arena in order to feel it. Not by merely watching, he couldn’t. Sighing, he saw another man jump in.

Considering their positions, some people didn’t want to join the competition so early. Still, there were those who didn’t want to be looked down on. Who had the secret book remained unknown. Yet the assembly had its rules, according to which, if no one joined the game, Lei Yuan won.

The man that joined in the arena was big. He was different from the burly man Du Chuxuan ran into in the street the other day. This man was as strong as an ox just from the look of him. However, the way he exerted his power was very uncommon so he needed swords that specialized in techniques.

If this man hadn’t had strong internal strength, Du Chuxuan would have taken him as a performer.

“Who do you think will win?” Ashina Yi, who was bored to death, got closer to Du Chuxuan and asked. In fact, he didn’t know how he felt at the moment. Coming here was just an excuse to run away from that jail-like palace. He didn’t care about Wulin in the least.

However, he had to admit, he had developed a favorable opinion of the man in red, so favorable that even he himself was cautious of it. He wanted to get close to this person simply to see what would happen next. What intrigued him was that the man next to the one in red was hostile to him.

It seemed like Yuxing Tianrui and Ashina Yi were born arch-rivals. The two had their guard up against each other even when they didn’t know it was the other party. It must be fate.

Du Chuxuan gave a cough, leaned backwards, and got closer to Ashina Yi. “What do you mean? Have you already learned about the result? Then just tell me about it.”

“That’s no fun. Let’s make it big. How about we take a bet?” Ashina Yi radiated with energy after Du Chuxuan’s reply. “Life in Wulin isn’t plain sailing. If I win…” He took out a jade pendant as he spoke.

The pendant was glittering, very expensive-looking. That aside, it seemed translucent, probably because it was close to his body all the time, which made it more valuable.

Du Chuxuan clicked his tongue. Everyone that was out here was somebody with a certain amount of wealth. Pondering, he also took a jade pendant off his belt. It wasn’t something important, yet it was Du Chuyue’s dowry. He figured he wouldn’t be very sad about it even if he lost the bet.

Many around them also started to take bets. The former chief of Wulin was killed by his enemy, which brought about this assembly. It was an opportunity to get power. Except for the position of chief and the secret book of martial arts, many sects were here to make alliances.

As the two were clear of the stakes, they wrote down who they thought was going to win and didn’t talk anymore.

Du Chuxuan was more cautious about what those around him were talking about.

“If you paid attention, you should notice that the group of people at the north-east corner have been looking your way.” Jiu Dengdan’s voice went up again.

Du Chuxuan turned the teacup slightly and looked over. It was an inconspicuous corner, from where one could see clearly both the arena and the place that Du Chuxuan was at.

If it was up to Du Chuxuan, besides the best seats in the center, he would have chosen that corner for it was the best place of observation.

“What’s wrong with it?” The group wasn’t the only one that was looking around. Men of Sect Luo was also collecting information at the west side of the venue. It was perfectly normal.

“I saw one of them make a gesture. If I’m correct, they are members of Manlou.”

As soon as Du Chuxuan heard that, his hands clenched into fists.

Yuxing Tianrui, who had been watching Du Chuxuan closely turned his way immediately. “What’s wrong?”
