Office trips are usually well-planned trips. They ensure that the employees get their stress released, only to add on more stress, expecting the employees to keep up. I knew the work load was only going to increase but I was excited regardless. I had packed all sorts of snacks for the trip. The only downside to this trip was that we were going to take a bus, I had motion sickness. I made sure to carry bags in case I felt like throwing up.
I couldn't spend a lot of time with Victor during this trip because I had promised Hilda, I'd spend time with her. I'm sure Victor would understand that I have a life beyond him. I reach the office and already find Victor chatting with Meghan. I tried to stay calm, not that it made me jealous. I knew Victor had something to do with the diary. I was annoyed with the fact that he wasn't telling me about it.
He smiled at me so as to let me know that we were still okay. I get into the cafeteria to make my coffee. Victor comes in and smiles awkwardly. Meghan follows him and sees me in the cafeteria, something changes her mind and she walks away.
"Who? Meghan? Oh, it's nothing." He says casually. "So, excited Sof?" he asks.
I was getting more and more annoyed with his casual behavior. I had so many questions. Stupid Victor.
"I am." I say and walk out of the cafeteria.
The whole bus ride was a blur. I kept waking up and felt like I was going to puke. The people in the bus were making a lot of noise and hooting. I was too sick to even look back. If I would have, I'd puke. I could hear Victor laughing and I was glad to know he was having a good time at least.
Once we got down, they handed to us our tent numbers. We could choose our roommate and I was so excited to be sleeping with Hilda. We could stay awake all night and gossip. I instantly felt better after I got out of the bus. Hilda walks with me, we take the tent number card with us and get into our tent. I zip the entrance and both of us scream. I roll on the bed. This was going to be the best weekend ever. The tent wasn't a big fancy one, but it was extremely cozy.
Hilda was the kinda friend who's like a mom. She is extremely careful, she will spoil you, she will shower you with love and attention and make sure you're grounded as well. Hilda never told me directly that I was her best friend, but I knew I was important to her. She always made sure to have lunch with me. She starved sometimes, because I was so engrossed in work, I'd keep forgetting to tell her to go ahead and have lunch without me. She always saved dessert for me as well. And her mom always packed extra lunch for me. I loved her mother's cooking.
"Gear up for the trek" Victor says as he unzips the tent.
"Go away Mr. Gibson, this place is for friends only. Not lovers." She teases him.
I freeze. Victor hadn't told me his feelings yet. The L word wasn't out yet. It would have made him uncomfortable.
He smiled at Hilda and looked at me. Oh no. Don't do it Victor.
"I was wondering if you'd like to take a walk with me later? After dinner I mean." He asks me nervously. It was as if we were back to being acquaintances.
"Sure." I smile and he leaves.
I close the tent immediately.
"What's with the nervousness? He looks like he is going to propose." Hilda chuckles.
"Oh, shut up Hilda." I give her a dirty look. No way in hell.
"So? Will you say yes?" She asks.
"Are we still at it?" I ask her.
"He is the Victor Gibson, you've been crushing on him since the first day. I honestly never found him
attractive. I don't even know what you see in him. But it's finally happening. Him asking you to be exclusive with him. Would you say yes?" she asks. "Well of course you would." She continues and laughs.
I don't say anything.
"You will say yes right?" she asks again.
"Victor, it doesn't seem right anymore. I need to figure things out." I say softly.
"You should. Tonight."
Tonight. Yes.
