Nuptial Chamber Next Door

I froze. If he had not reminded me , I would have forgotten the main purpose of my trip.

"Can you save him?" Like a drowning man, I was grasping at straws. Even knowing this was useless, I was not willing to give up my last ray of hope. Suppressing the wave of panic rising in me, I turned around to face him.

He picked up the remote control from the table. Facing the LCD TV on the wall, he pressed the on button. Zhong Tian's face immediately appeared o the screen.

He sat in a narrow room, his hands tightly clasped on the table, his eyes bloodshot, looking exhausted and haggard.

" I want some water.." a hoarse voice issued from chapped lips, full of pleading.

A sombre voice said, " You know it all. Just say it and we will let you leave."

"I…", the picture froze.

For a long time I stared at the frozen figure on the screen - his hands buried in his hair, a fearful look on his face, as if begging me to save him.

This was not the man who gave me a diamond ring not long ago, In only a few days, he had become so haggard. I wanted to save him, no matter what method I had to use.

I turned around and pleaded with Ye Zhengchen

“He has been framed, he is just a  low level secretary, it's the vice mayor of Liu … …”

“He hasn't been framed. Its not what you think. The task force has seen all the evidence. But I can help you…"

Ye Zhengchen did not continue, but I understand what he meant.

“What do you want?” Ye Zhengchen would not help me without some reciprocity

“You know what I want most.” He laughed. But in his eyes, I didn't see mirth, only a boiling possessiveness

" Why bother? Its been three years.. can't you leave me alone?' I touched the diamond ring in my finger, " I'm getting married.."

“You are mine!” Three words, as firm as iron.

If he was going to be like this, I had no choice.

"Can you really save him?"

" No one else can."

I looked at the frozen TV screen. I thought of what the lawyer said : Once things were finalised, there was no way to reverse the death penalty.

Compared with a person's life, shame seemed so insignificant.

I reached out to unbutton my blouse.

He caught my hand and stopped my movements.

" I want you to come back to me!"

I would not give in. Because I knew Ye Zhengchen. Once I give in, I would have no way to turn back.

" I would rather die with Zhong Tian than be with you!"

He frowned and paused

I turned away , determined.

When I opened the door and put one foot outside the door, he finally spoke, "Wait!"

I stepped back,my heart sighing silently in relief.

Suddenly I felt the presidential suite was like a golden cage and I was like an animal trapped in the cage. But my only option was to step back, as the door of the cage closed gradually, sealing off my path to escape.
