Three years later

A burst of rhythmic music jerked Zhang Wei back to reality from his memories. He turned his attention to the person behind him.

Ye Zhengchen took out his phone and looked at the call id. Then, with an expressionless face, he put the phone back in his pocket.

After a minute, the phone started ringing again. In the small space, teh volume was amplified multiple times

Zhang Wei placed his hands on his ears to cut off the din, “ I’m going to turn deaf!”

Ye Zhengchen coldly looked at him , then with his thumb, he touched the screen and picked up the phone, “ Any problems?”

“It’s my Dad’s birthday tomorrow”. Yu Yin had always been like this. She would just say half. The rest was left to the other person’s understanding.

Ye Zhengchen thought for a while. “ I’m not going to be able to attend tomorrow.”

“ Gift?”

“ I know”.

He thought Yu Yin just wanted to remind him to get a gift, but she continued, “ My father said he wanted to drink 30 year old vintage whisky. Do you know where you can find one?”

“ Yes. I’ll get it tonight.”

“ Ok”

With no further wastage of words, he hung up the phone

Although he didn’t set out to deliberately eavesdrop on their conversation, in the closed space, Zheng Wei could not help overhearing the conversation.

“30 year old vintaged whisky for your father-in-law would be really difficult to find!” He especially empahasised the word father in law

Ye Zhengchen looked at him coldly. He did not speak and moved his gaze to the shadows.

Unable to achieve the desired effect, Zheng Wei continued to laugh and ridicule him, “When are you free? I haven’t met your wife and you in any kind of gathering for a long time and I kind of like her..”

A chilled look swept over him

“ If you say one more word, I will throw you out of the car.”

“ I am just curious what methods they used to get you to sign the marriage contract…”

Zheng Wei wasn’t just ridiculing him, he genuinely wanted to know this from Ye Zhengchen.
