Paying The Price

Chapter 18 - Really?!, Do You Have Proof?

During his engagement party, everyone had anticipated for Fiona Linemans to be mentioned as the Future Mrs Grand, unexpectedly a certain Diana Black was reported to be the Future Mrs Grand. Paparazzi tried to search for who she was but Diana was quick to escape before she was identified, she couldn't face the media for interrogation even if it was a joke, and the sudden scene made it hard for her to breath.

After that night, she would often hope to wake up one day realising it was a dream, till date, thought, she still hasn't woken up.

Diana decided to live her new fairytale life, learning how to appear in public as a sophisticated woman and trying to please her husband in every way, all were in vein, for she had mistaken a night mare to a dream come true.

"What bases do you have for a divorce?" Wayne was surprisingly calm. A divorce should be back by ideal reasons and it looks like she doesn't have any.

"A.d.u.l.tery." Diana said firmly.

"Adu....if it's about Fiona, you know there's nothing going on between us." Wayne revolted.

"Really?!, do you have proof?" She folded her arms and lifted her as she asked.

Wayne was slightly taken back. "Proof? What proof?"

"Oh! so you were blind to headlines like 'Miss Fiona Linemans accompanying Mr Wayne Grand to a charity event, clearly fitting the Mrs Grand position.' what are you, a kid?"

"You memorize headlines?"

"You don't?" Diana shot back with sarcasim.

"Wayne, I seriously don't understand you, if you love her so much why didn't you marry her."

"I don't...."

"Of course I know you don't!, if you did you wouldn't have wrecked her shop for me." Diana interrupted Wayne. Seeing the surprising look he has she added "Yes I know! Ronin told Nikki and she told me.... but even after hearing all she said and knew all she did and all she wanted to do, why do you still keep her by your side?, why do you still let her hurt me?" Her last statement were said with much emotion as she recalled those awful past.

"I know she's your childhood friend and you want to protect her, but what about me?.....am human too, I need protection too, sigh, you really don't have a proof of not committing a.d.u.l.tery, cause no one would believe you, the masses sees her as your mistress. So! just warn her, cause if she makes things difficult for me and the public know, I'll make the divorce quicker." Saying firmly she turned to leave.

"What about my daughter?" His words haulted her steps.

Diana turned to look at him with disdain "Now you got a daughter?"

"I thought you wanted me to be a father?"

"Hmm, OK, how about this, you look free now so you take her out for a 'father daughter bonding', how's that?"

Diana air quoted 'father daughter bonding' making Wayne frown greatly, his emotions were hard to read but Diana knew the pages to flip to get them out.

"I'll bring her to your car." She swung open the back door and left immediately.

......

Inside the coffee shop, everything was finally stable as Wayne left, the atmosphere was back to being friendly, customers chatting while enjoying their orders and employees busily satisfied their needs.

Diana walked up to her daughter. In the corner, Pearl played with her tab when she heard her mother's sweet voice.

"Sugar, someone's here to pick you."
