Paying The Price

Four years later

A pretty little girl was waiting patiently in the lounge staring at the glass window as plans ascended and descended, it was summer and she wore a floral dress with her hair tied up in a neat bun.

She was incredibly cute and attracted a lot of attention, a woman couldn't help but approach her and asked "Hey little one who are you waiting for?"

She looked up at the direction of the voice, she smiled showing off her perfectly white teeth as she replied in a very soft voice "Hello, am waiting for my mommy."

"Well okay then, did she go far?"

"No, she's just having a hard time making my auntie come along."

Then she whispered "My auntie says she hates this city but I don't know why."

"Really, but this is a wonderful city, we have beautiful seneries here, especially in summer. You'll really love it." The woman replied.

"Okay, I would tell her just that. Thanks lady, What's your name?"

"Am Mia."

"Am Pearl but you can call me sugar, baby!"

Mia was taken away by this little cuteness "Well nice to meet you sugar, i woulgbe on my way now."

"Oh! Here." Pearl took a card from her pink purse and said "Here's my number, call me okay."

"I would do just that, Bye." Mia took the card and left.

Not long after Diana came pulling along the reluctant Nikki "I thought we were over this, am not happy coming here too you know."

"If you're not happy then why are we here, I mean there are other places to move to, but you just can't wait to see your beloved husband." Nikki scorned.

"I can't put my interest first, sugar needs a father."

"Well get another one."

"How would I get another one when am still married?"

"Not my problem."

"Why you.... "

Diana and Nikki stopped arguing as they approached Pearl "Mommy I met a pretty nice lady, her name's Mia." Pearl said enthusiastically.

"I thought I said no talking to strangers."

"This one's really nice, I even gave her my card." She then turned to Nikki "She said the city is beautiful and you'll love it."

"The city is beautiful but the faces here are ugly." Nikki pouted.

"But Mia isn't ugly." Pearl said half confused.

While she was still speaking a voice greeted them warmly "Diana, Nikki... oh my God is that the cute sugar" It was Hailey, Diana's best friend, she was the only one who knew about their whereabouts and had arranged a place for them to stay when she heard about their moving back, they met at the school were Diana was being sponsored and were class and table mates. Hailey hates when others are being bullied so she often stood up for Diana and even got into fights just to defend her, she came from an average household, her parents owned a coffee shop while she works as an accountant in a small firm.

She wanted to get a job for Diana in her company cause she knew well how intelligent and smart she was, but Diana refused for she wanted to keep a low profile and if she took any jobs that would require her certificate to be submitted she would be recognized as Mrs Grand immediately. So she insisted on working in the coffee shop instead, it had a good pay and was convenient for her to watch over Pearl while working.

"Yeah, she is." Diana replied as she hugged Hailey warmly.

"It's so see all of you, especially you Pearl." Hailey remarked as she looked at the cute little girl.

"I've heard so much about you and I can see you're really pretty like your mom."

Hailey and Diana don't communicate that often and during those few times she had never heard Pearl's voice.

"Thank you." Pearl blushed then looked at Nikki and pouted "She isn't ugly either."

Hailey chuckled as she helped carry some bags, they all chatted as they made their way to the exit, Diana suddenly stopped on her track as she remembered something.

"I just remembered, I need to call Evelyn that we're back. I did promise her that it would be the first thing I'll do when I come back.

Immediately she took her out her old journal, flipped to her old contacts and spotted Evelyn's number and dialed it on her phone.

"Hello" The voice rang on the other end, just as she remembered it, soothing and sweet.

"Hello it's me..... Diana."
