Paying The Price

"Except that." There was no way he was getting himself replaced.

"What! but you just promised!" Pearl protested with a frown.

"Yes I did, but am not getting replaced."

"What do you mean 'getting replaced', you were never a dad!"

Wayne was mentally stressed, she wasn't sparing him at all. Pinching the space between his brows, he said in a calm voice. "You're right, I was never a dad, but I can be your new dad."

"Oh lord, no!" Pearl rejected with a face of disgust "I want Zach." she added.

Zach! it's him again.

This time he's gonna find out who Zach was.

"You want Zach? OK, I'll get you Zach. Zach who then." He could get information from her and trash Zach.

Seeing through his mask, Pearl firmly said "Am not telling you, you could make him disappear."

"Didn't you say you wanted a new dad, what makes you think I'll do that."

"Why are you so anxious to find out who he is? you're supposed to say no you won't give me Zach but you're happy instead."

"......"

She was really smart and calculative, it was like she had an a.d.u.l.ts brain in her tiny little head. More like him when he was younger, always a step ahead.

"What is it?" Wayne was back to being cold as answered the phone.

"Is that how phone calls are answered these days?" The other voice wasn't any warmer.

"Am in the middle of something important, state your business." He asked a simple question and he's getting another, Wayne was beyond frustration, no one should add to it. Dealing with Pearl had sapped him drastically, he didn't have any strength for pleasantries.

"A neuclar weapon is on the loose, we need your help. We're waiting for you at your company, come meet us." Without waiting for a reply the latter hang up.

Wayne already made it clear that he wasn't getting involved in stuff like these, he had paid his dues, but they keep bugging him. Now they were at his company, he could ignore but he had to draw the line today.

"To the company." Giving those orders, he looked at his daughter, he had a more important mission to complete.

Everyone wanted to know who the cute little girl by their boss' side was.

Unlike the boss, she was cheerful and didn't seem to be affected by his cold aura, her sweet smile stole their hearts. She was amazingly beautiful, her short Jean and a peach shirt suited her gorgeousness as her waist length hair fell, covering her back. The sound of the closed elevator was a signal for them to gossip.

"Could that be his daughter?"

"Are you sure, I thought his wife left with her?"

"Maybe their back, who else could be by his side, didn't you see the resemblance?"

"I think she looks more like her mother."
