Paying The Price

The morning light shined on her face, slowly she opened her eyes, her wrist hurt badly and feet ached. She struggled to get up, tossing the blanket to one side.

Wait a minute, this wasn't her bed, this wasn't her room.

Where is this?

Nikki's last remembered being in a car, crying her life out while holding the driver's arm.

"You up?" A very familiar voice asked softly, the owner of the voice gently placed a tray with tea on the the table near the bed.

"Where am I?" Her lips were slightly apart after she asked, displaying pure innocence.

"My house."

"How did I get here?"

"I drove you here."

"I don't remember coming here."

"You slept in the car after wetting my arm." Nikki turned her head in embarrassment, she never thought she would be so vulnerable in front of Leon, but still, she was grateful he came for her. If he didn't show up, she would have been waisted by now.

Unconsciously, she felt her body. Her clothes were on her with his coat he gave her to wear last night.

Leon watched her as she carefully checked her body, her actions pricked his heart.

Last night, he ran after her to get an answer, waiting till Monday seemed like torture to him. A girl would need her time but damn, his blood boiled for her. Hesitating a little, he decided to forfeit waiting and followed her.

Close to the bus stop, Leon saw from afar Nikki being abducted by those men. He was without a car and chasing after them by foot would be futile.

Hijacking a close by car, he furiously chased them, although they were really far from him, he never for once took his eyes off the black van.

At his arrival, he heard Nikki screaming, waking up a dangerous beast in him. Keeping at least on of the men was his plan to find out who sent them, but hearing her scream and the unpleasant scene he saw when he walked in, made him lose control leaving no survivors even when he fought with his b.a.r.e hands.

Giving her the tea, Leon asked "How you feeling?"

Nikki took the tea from him cause it looked like he was about to feed her the tea" I'm ok, but my ankle and feet hurt."

"Well you are one fighter." He teased then added "I'll apply ointment on the affected area when you clean up."

A smile appeared on her face because of his care "Thank you."

"My phone. Diana must be so worried, is it here?" Nikki searched around for her purse.

"It's here." Leon handed her the purse and watched her throw it's contents on the bed then picked up her phone. On the screen, a notification of a received appeared.

Something was off, just one message and no missed calls, that wasn't Diana's style. Nikki expected ten missed calls and five messages to pop up. As she was disturbed about her dissapointed expectations, the content of the message alarmed her.
