"I am Chen Yuan!"
Chen Yuan quickly stepped forward, took the letter, and was surprised to find that it was from Liu Changqing. This guy had only been gone for a few days, yet he sent a letter so quickly.
"Go back and pay attention in class."
Mr. Xu said calmly.
He valued Chen Yuan highly and planned to cultivate him into a "generalist".
He had previously discussed with Mr. Zhu that if students wanted to have clear minds and be able to distinguish right from wrong, they needed to use "generalist" education.
He also agreed that the two were classmates and friends.
Moreover, Chen Yuan is smart enough that he won't forget things he's learned, so he's a good fit.
That man was the greatest polymath of the Republic of China; this child also has that potential.
"Even if you don't study abroad, you can still go to university and be exposed to more advanced ideas and knowledge, which is also good."
Mr. Xu thought to himself.
Chen Yuan went to the back seat, opened the letter, and began reading it.
"Brother Yuan, who wrote to you?"
"I asked curiously."
“One of my elder brothers even knows some other essential points of Bajiquan and the formulas for Pi Gua Zhang. Brother Changqing is quite a remarkable person. I remember that Bajiquan and Pi Gua Zhang can be practiced together. Compared to the fierce and domineering nature of Bajiquan, Pi Gua Zhang is more flexible and versatile. The two complement each other.”
Chen Yuan stared at the contents of the letter and a smile appeared on his face.
Liu Changqing wrote down a lot of the essentials of Bajiquan and the formulas for Piguazhang on it, as well as some of his experiences on the road, including his battles with some strange people, etc.
It's quite interesting.
Moreover, the Yanwu Academy, where Liu Changqing was located, was a school specifically for training military officers. The Yanwu Academy was established to save the country and its people, so it was clear that it had come into contact with many advanced ideas.
In the letter, he also told Chen Yuan about his idea of saving the country and the people.
"Brother Changqing, you really are a patriotic young man, worthy of respect, but sometimes you are a bit too reckless."
Chen Yuan recalled the time at Jishetang when Liu Changqing broke the weeping willow tree planted by Master Niu with a single punch. He had to admit that this guy was still too young.
"My dad is planning to take me to Sihai Tower tonight to hear the Legend of the White Snake. Speaking of which, the Legend of the White Snake you told me before is completely different from the one I heard at Sihai Tower!"
The fat man suddenly looked at Chen Yuan.
He had heard Chen Yuan tell the story of "The Legend of the White Snake" before, and it seemed even more interesting than the storyteller on the second floor of Sihai Tower.
"is it?"
Chen Yuan gave an awkward smile upon hearing this.
He was telling this fat man a story that combined elements from the TV series "The Legend of the White Snake" and "The Tale of Xu Xian," which was naturally much more interesting than what a traditional storyteller would tell.
"And Xiaoqing isn't a woman either, she's a fish spirit! Damn it, where did you get your Legend of the White Snake from? I want to see it too!"
The fat man continued to ask.
The storyteller clearly said that Xiaoqing was a male demon, but I have to say that Chen Yuan's storytelling was more captivating.
"I can't remember either, Fatty. You should just eat your food. I'm going to pay attention in class!"
Chen Yuan quickly changed the subject.
To prevent this fat guy from continuing to pester me.
Although this won't reveal that he's a time traveler, explaining it would probably go on forever.
Chapter 52 Selfless Sacrifice! (First Update)
"Tch, Yuan-ge, you're actually paying attention in class?"
The fat man was speechless.
Chen Yuan clearly skips classes often; he probably just doesn't want to answer his questions.
However, he was too lazy to ask and decided to eat first. So he took out a few pieces of orange-red cake from his bag and stuffed them into his mouth.
"Luckily, we managed to get away with it. Fortunately, this kid isn't the type to get stuck on things."
Chen Yuan breathed a sigh of relief, then took out Liu Changqing's letter and began to read the Pi Gua Quan manual written on it.
Pi Gua Quan complements Bajiquan. Pi Gua Quan emphasizes inhalation and exhalation, extension and contraction, striking far and wide, circling and folding, feinting and returning, continuous techniques, and fierce attacks.
Pi Gua Quan was originally called "Pi Gua Quan". "Pi" means to open or break open; Gua refers to the Eight Trigrams, created by Fu Xi. As the name suggests, Pi Gua Quan means to open and decipher the mysteries of the changes of the Eight Trigrams. Later generations passed it down and called it Pi Gua Quan. Pi and Gua are the two major techniques of this style of boxing, and their organic combination forms the core of Pi Gua Quan's practical application.
The boxing manual says: "The eight trigrams are: Qian (☰) is three unbroken lines, Kun (☷) is six broken lines, Zhen (☳) is an upturned bowl, Gen (☶) is an overturned bowl, Dui (☱) is missing at the top, Xun (☴) is broken at the bottom, Li (☲) is empty in the middle, and Kan (☵) is full in the middle. The application of these trigrams is based on the elements of
"Starting from Qian and ending with Kun, Yin and Yang alternate in waxing and waning, endlessly cycling." In boxing, this manifests as "movement and stillness, opening and closing, swallowing and spitting, attack and defense, hardness and softness, emptiness and fullness," etc., working internally and manifesting externally, sealing one's own five elements to overcome the opponent's five elements.
The boxing manual says: "When two people fight, first close the five elements." "The five elements are metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Metal generates water, water generates wood, wood generates fire, fire generates earth, and earth generates metal."
"The variations of Pi Gua are indeed numerous, which can just make up for some of the shortcomings of Bajiquan. The two complement each other perfectly."
Chen Yuan narrowed his eyes slightly.
He vaguely understood why Liu Changqing had passed on the training method of Pi Gua Zhang to Zi Liao; Bajiquan and Pi Gua Zhang were indeed a perfect match.
The letter ended with the following text: "Loyalty and courage, using one's body as a shield, selflessness, and taking the lead in times of danger! Brother Chen, this is the spirit of Bajiquan. I hope you can understand its true meaning."
"Selflessness? That's a bit difficult. I think the Taoist philosophy of valuing life is more suitable for me."
Chen Yuan thought to himself.
"Neither good nor evil" means that humans, as objects, are not inherently good or evil. However, when people have thoughts or intentions, these thoughts and actions can influence right and wrong, good and evil, and thus, these thoughts themselves become distinguishable as right and wrong, good and evil.
Correctly distinguishing between good and evil is conscience; using conscience as the standard and acting in accordance with doing good and avoiding evil is the investigation of things. Do you understand?
Mr. Xu glanced at the students in the classroom and saw Chen Yuan looking down at something. A hint of helplessness flashed in his eyes.
This kid is still too free.
"Sir, I think I understand, but I also don't!"
"What does 'investigating things' mean?"
The children naturally didn't understand these things and found Mr. Xu's explanation confusing.
"Mr. Xu is talking about some incomprehensible stuff again. The storytellers at Sihailou are much more interesting."
The fat man ate the orange-red cake in big bites, muttering to himself.
"Chen Yuan, tell me what 'investigating things' means?"
Mr. Xu turned his gaze to Chen Yuan and said calmly.
"Mr. Xu, the original meaning of the word 'gewu' is to study a certain thing or thing in depth, and then gain something from it. The laws summarized can be metaphysical or physical."
Chen Yuan quickly stood up and smiled.
This thing is no challenge for a college student who has traveled from another era.
"Huh? I understand even less now."
"Yes, what were they talking about?"
The children in the school were scratching their heads.
"Hmm, that's right. Chen Yuan, you stay behind after school!"
A hint of approval and helplessness flashed in Mr. Xu's eyes.
This child is truly intelligent, much more mature than other children, but precisely because of this, he is also more difficult to discipline.
However, this is also a characteristic of this child.
Everyone has their own nature, and you can't force them to be.
"Huh?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Yuan was immediately taken aback.
Should I stay here again?
Will Mr. Xu try to lecture him again?
"Hehe, Yuan-ge, you're in trouble."
The fat man grinned wickedly.
"Fatty, what do you know? Mr. Xu values me, that's why he let me stay."
Although Chen Yuan said this, he was quite depressed inside.
"Tch, let's just say it shows they value it. Anyway, I'm going to Sihai Tower tonight to listen to 'The Legend of the White Snake.' By the way, Brother Yuan, you said before that Xu Xian married a lot of wives, right? But the storyteller only said one, which is quite different from what you said. Also, Xu Xian doesn't know how to cultivate immortality. Oh, and you still haven't told me the ending!"
The fat man remembered the story Chen Yuan had told him.
"Perhaps it's because of the different eras. As for the ending, I'll tell you in a few days!"
Chen Yuan waved his hand.
Jingle Bell!
Just then, the bell rang, signaling the end of get out of class, and the fat boy instantly launched himself into the air:
"Brother Yuan, let's talk again tomorrow, I'm off!"
"Is this kid really that happy after class?"
Chen Yuan shook his head.
In no time, all the children in the school had run away.
“Come here, Chen Yuan, do you know the origin of the ‘philosophy of mind’ I mentioned before?”
Mr. Xu said calmly.
"Sir, this disciple does not know."
Chen Yuan walked up to him and scratched his head.
He was, after all, a science student. He had studied the concept of investigating things to acquire knowledge, but he hadn't learned as much about history and culture as he had before his time travel, not even as much as he had from the gentleman in front of him.
The term "Mind Learning" first appeared in the "Mahābhikṣu Śāntiāyāna Sūtra" translated by An Shigao in the Eastern Han Dynasty, where it refers to "meditation" in the three studies of Buddhism. In the Buddhist history books of the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the term "Mind Learning" specifically refers to the study of meditation. The term "Mind Learning" in Taoism first appeared in Tao Hongjing's "Zhen Gao", which is later than the Buddhist Mind Learning.
