Demon Slayer: I am a Demon.
Page 219
The samurai's throat was bitten open, and scarlet blood flowed out. Stimulated by the smell of blood, the other demons could no longer restrain themselves and rushed into the most luxurious place in this area within a few breaths.
As the most prestigious place in Tokyo, it is undoubtedly home to the Imperial Family. Although many of their powers have been stripped away, they remain the most esteemed in terms of status.
At this moment, a banquet is being held here, and the melodious sound of the shamisen is coming from inside the room. Noble ladies are moving back and forth, their figures swaying gracefully.
Several members of the royal family gathered together, clinking glasses and chatting casually.
"I've heard that many places are haunted lately."
A noblewoman dressed in a dark purple furisode kimono covered her mouth and chuckled softly: "Only in those crude places would such a thing happen."
“That’s right,” another lady chimed in. “No ghost has ever dared to approach this area. After all…” she paused, her tone carrying undisguised superiority, “ghosts, too, have their own distinctions of rank.”
No sooner had he finished speaking than a shrill scream came from outside.
What was that sound?
One person stood up and looked up.
Before they could finish speaking, the mansion's gate was smashed open from the outside, and several ghosts rushed in. Each of them was covered in blood, with bluish-purple skin, ferocious faces, and scarlet eyes. Their terrifying appearance sent chills down everyone's spines.
"ghost!"
Everyone shivered, never expecting that this terrifying thing would be so close to them.
Do you know where this place is?
A nobleman mustered his courage and spoke in a tone that was fierce on the outside but weak on the inside.
The ghost tilted its head, looked at the person, and licked its lips: "It looks delicious."
As soon as he finished speaking, he pounced on the man, and soon a shrill scream rang out.
At this point, these usually high-ranking nobles realized that their so-called status was of no use in the eyes of these ghosts. These things didn't care about status or power at all.
In the eyes of these ghosts, they are merely food.
Then, fear began to rise, and as yet another person was pounced on by the evil spirit, everyone scattered and fled.
The usually elegant and composed ladies screamed and ran outside like startled rabbits. But the ghosts were too fast; they pounced on their prey one after another like wolves among sheep.
A nobleman hid under a table, trembling, watching pairs of bloody feet run past him. His crotch was already wet, but he cared not for shame, only hoping the ghosts wouldn't find him.
A ghost stopped in its tracks, lowered its head, and met his gaze.
"Got you."
Blood stained the white tablecloth on the dining table.
Those nobles, usually so arrogant, were now running around like headless flies. Carriages collided, lanterns fell over, and fires broke out in some places, but no one cared about putting anything away. The guards in uniform tried to fight back, but how could ordinary humans be a match for a demon? Their prized swords were nothing more than a tickle in the face of the demon's regenerative abilities.
"Help! Help!"
"Quickly call the Demon Slayer Corps! Where is the Demon Slayer Corps?"
"My child! Has anyone seen my child?!"
Cries, pleas for help, and screams mingled together.
A nobleman, dressed in an elegant kimono with a beautifully decorated katana hanging at his waist, lacked even the courage to draw his sword. He struggled desperately in the demon's hands, like a fish that had been pulled ashore.
"Please...please don't kill me...I have money...I can give you a lot of money..."
"money?"
The ghost tilted its head, revealing a cruel smile. "What does a ghost need money for?"
The moment the fangs pierced his neck, Nobleman's eyes widened. Before, the Ubuyashiki had sought his help many times, which he had scoffed at. He said that dealing with demons was the business of the so-called Demon Slayer Corps, and it was the business of the Ubuyashiki who were cursed by Muzan Kibutsuji. It had nothing to do with them, so why should he spend money?
But when the ghost arrived, I really regretted it.
As the night deepened, the firelight grew brighter.
This most luxurious and safest area of Tokyo is now like a living hell.
Soon, the commotion alerted the Demon Slayer Corps swordsmen responsible for this area.
The leader was a tall young man with long, fiery red and yellow hair, his eyes gleaming beneath thick eyebrows, and a confident, enthusiastic smile playing on his lips. He wore a haori, half deep red and half orange-yellow, as if he were draped in flames.
"Lord Purgatory, how can there be ghosts here?"
A swordsman lowered his voice, saying that over the years, almost no ghosts had ventured into this area.
"Now is not the time to discuss this. Let's save people and slay the evil spirits first."
The crowd responded with a resounding roar.
These days, Kyojuro Rengoku has been busy hunting demons. Although he is very tired, he still forces himself to cheer up and his figure rushes out like an arrow, radiating a fiery aura.
"Coming here to die again?"
A ghost was lying on the ground eating food. Hearing the noise, it sneered. These humans have no idea how terrifying ghosts are.
Before he could finish speaking, a scorching blade of light pierced the darkness.
The ghost stood frozen in place, watching only the familiar body recede into the distance. Only when it crashed to the ground did it realize that the familiar body was its own; it had been beheaded.
"How...how is this possible..."
I was filled with resentment, but death was inevitable.
Kyojuro Rengoku held his sword, his expression showing fatigue, but his eyes remained bright.
The remaining five ghosts finally realized that the man in front of them was on a completely different level from those who had dared to resist before.
"Attack together!" one of the ghosts roared. "He's all alone!"
The five demons moved simultaneously, attacking Rengoku Kyojuro from different directions. Their speed was incredible, and their coordination was impeccable, practically sealing off all avenues for escape. The powerful figures hiding in the shadows watched this scene with their hearts in their throats.
But Kyojuro Rengoku didn't even blink.
He crouched slightly, holding the knife horizontally in front of him, his whole being resembling a volcano poised to erupt.
"Breath of Flame, Second Form - Rising Flame!"
The blade slashed upwards, unleashing an arc of fiery light that spread outwards from him. The five ghosts were struck by the light almost simultaneously; some had their arms severed, others had half their heads cut off, and black blood splattered everywhere.
"what--!!"
Screams echoed throughout the room.
Kyojuro Rengoku gave them no chance to breathe. His figure weaved among the five demons, each strike of his sword carrying a scorching heat, as if he himself were a walking flame.
"Type Three - Qi Flame!"
The blade spun like a spiral, drawing the two nearest ghosts into a vortex of flames. They didn't even have time to scream before they were shredded to pieces and turned to ashes.
The remaining three ghosts finally broke down.
"Escape! Escape!"
They turned and ran, frantically fleeing in different directions. One of them even trampled over the fallen nobles, just to try and save its life.
Rengoku Kyojuro watched their fleeing figures but did not give chase.
He simply took a deep breath and then slowly raised the knife in his hand.
"Breath of Flames. Unleashed Form - Dance of Radiant Flames".
His figure transformed into a streak of light, tracing a winding path across the night sky. The ghost that had run the furthest had already leaped onto a rooftop, preparing to leap onto another building, when suddenly it felt a chill down its back. Looking down, it saw a red blade tip protruding from its chest.
"when……"
The knife was withdrawn, and its body fell to the ground, turning to ashes in mid-air.
The other two demons didn't escape far either. Rengoku Kyojuro's speed was unbelievable; he appeared in different directions almost simultaneously. A flash of light, and both heads flew off at the same time, rolling to the ground.
Everything returned to calm.
From the moment Rengoku Kyojuro made his move until all the demons were killed, only a few breaths passed.
The battle was over before the Demon Slayer Corps members even had a chance to draw their swords.
"Mr. Purgatory is too strong..."
One of the team members murmured, his eyes filled with admiration.
Rengoku Kyojuro sheathed his sword, turned around, and still wore that enthusiastic smile on his face.
"Everyone! The demons have all been slain! We're safe!"
The powerful and wealthy stared at him blankly, unable to react for a moment.
"Is...it safe?" a noblewoman asked in a trembling voice.
“It’s safe!” Rengoku Kyojuro nodded firmly and reached out to help her up. The noblewoman was pulled to her feet, her legs still weak, but when she saw his bright and sincere eyes, most of her fear dissipated.
"You...you are..."
"Kyojuro Rengoku! Flame Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, the swordsman in charge of this area! I'm late, I'm sorry to have startled you!"
As he spoke, he turned around and shouted to the other team members, "Go check if anyone is injured! Those who need help should be given priority!"
"Yes!"
The team members immediately scattered.
The swordsmen immediately dispersed and began to move.
Those powerful and wealthy people who survived the disaster sat slumped on the ground, some still trembling, some already crying.
These usually high-ranking nobles were now in a sorry state, their clothes covered in dust and bloodstains, their hair disheveled.
…………
After settling everything in, Rengoku Kyojuro finally had a rare moment to rest. Sitting by the window, he looked up at the night sky, wondering about what had happened that day. Over the years, although demons had appeared in Tokyo from time to time, they had almost never attacked this area.
The ghosts are becoming more and more rampant and bolder.
Fortunately, the demons were all killed.
He never imagined that these ghosts were intentionally placed here.
…………
The demon was slain, but the matter of the demon could no longer be suppressed.
Especially for the powerful and wealthy who feel death is so close, they can no longer control their fear of ghosts. Those ghosts don't care about status, money, or power; in front of them, they are all food.
