In front of them was a rather long corridor, with classrooms with closed doors on the other side, and the stairwell was at the end of the corridor, to the left.

In the pitch black, Wu Daogui stayed close to Youxing, nervously observing the dark classroom around them.

"What? You're afraid of ghosts?"

The hallway was quiet. Youxing, with a mischievous streak, quietly leaned close to Guihu's ear, and the sudden sound startled Guihu.

"Don't worry, there's nothing here. There are no ghosts in this world."

Having satisfied his perverse pleasure, Youxing returned to normal and said slowly.

"You bastard, you're really despicable!"

Once he realized what was happening, Guihu's tension vanished. He gritted his teeth, wishing he could strangle Youxing.

He's been tricked twice by Yuuki today!

This guy isn't scared at all! How could anyone not be afraid of ghosts?

"I've been here so many times, I know exactly where all the clutter is, how could I possibly be afraid?"

As if he could see what Wu Dao Gui Hu was thinking, You Xing chuckled.

The two walked through the corridor and finally arrived at the stairs that Manatsu had mentioned.

Surprisingly, there was nothing there; it was very clean.

"Huh? Were you scammed?"

Wu Daogui walked up in the dark and confirmed that there was nothing there.

"No, Manatsu wouldn't lie to me."

Yuuki was very certain of this, so he went to Kureshima Takatomo's side and examined it with him.

Yuuki's superhuman eyesight proved to be of great help, allowing him to discover some subtle traces.

He touched one of the walls and found that the scratches on it were completely different from those on other parts of the wall.

“There used to be something growing on this place. Manatsu’s information was correct, but someone took it away before us.”

Yu Xing never expected that someone would be even more well-informed and act even faster than them.

"It must be someone from a conglomerate; only they have this capability."

Given how clean the job was done, Wu Daogui only had one suspect in his mind.

"In this way, the only clue is cut off."

Under the control of large conglomerates, the efficiency of private investigations is still too low.

"No, it's not broken."

As Yuuki touched the wall, the feeling in her heart grew stronger.

That was his strong intuition as an outsider.

"I'm certain there's another crack in this place."

Yu Xing's expression was solemn. Could it be that there was something special about this building?

Otherwise, how could Helheim have chosen this place multiple times?

"There's another one?!"

Wu Daogui was also surprised.

"Could this place be a base that Helheim has set up in our world?"

Yu Xing suddenly felt something was wrong; this time, it was his strong sixth sense, honed by years of bad luck.

Often at this point, things start to get extremely bad.

"what!!!!"

Just as Yuuki was about to tell Guihu that they were going to run away, a sudden scream from upstairs interrupted him!

"There's someone here?!"

The two exchanged a glance and quietly crept upstairs.

Chapter 21 The Escape of the Past

The third floor of the abandoned teaching building

"It's on this floor."

Yuuki peeked out from the stairwell and quickly scanned the entire corridor.

Yuuki noticed several flashlights scattered on the ground, confirming that there were indeed people here and that what he had just heard was not a hallucination.

"How about it?"

Wu Daogui, hiding behind him, nudged Youxing in front of him.

"There are people there, but we don't know why they're hiding."

Yu Xing frowned. Could it be that besides the rift, there really is some kind of ghost here?

"Since it's a person, let's go find them directly."

At this moment, Wu Daogui was much bolder than Youxing. He walked out of the stairwell and exposed himself in the corridor.

"Is anyone there?" he shouted. "I just heard someone scream here. What happened?"

The sound echoed in the corridor, repeating twice, before a person timidly peeked out of the classroom.

Only after seeing that there were two people did she feel relieved and crawl out of the classroom, running over quickly.

But upon seeing the hospital gowns the two were wearing, he abruptly took a few steps back.

"Don't worry, we're normal people. We just came from the hospital and didn't have time to change our clothes."

Wu Daogui scratched his head. After hearing people talking, the slightly chubby girl in the school uniform breathed a sigh of relief, but soon she seemed to remember something and rushed to the two of them.

"There are monsters!"

Terrified, she grabbed Wu Daogui's arm.

They are from another land!

Based on the information Yuuki had given him earlier, Wu Dao Guihu immediately understood what the monster was.

“We’re talking as we walk; this place is no longer a suitable place to stay.”

Yu Xing made a quick decision and prepared to lead the way downstairs, but was stopped by the slightly chubby girl.

"I saw those monsters heading towards the stairwell! There were several of them!"

This made Youxing pause in her tracks, and she turned back without hesitation.

"Go inside. I remember there are stairs over there too. Tell me more about what's going on."

The three walked to the other side, with Yuuki and Takato listening to the girl's intermittent narration.

The girl was a freshman in high school. Because the story of this school building was widely known in the school, she and three good friends made a pact to come here to explore at 4 a.m. today.

There was no risk ahead, but everything changed after they reached the fifth floor.

A monster appeared, and the group was chased and scattered. She screamed and went to the third floor, where she finally hid until she was discovered by Yuuki and the other two.

"Wait, I don't remember any story here."

After listening to the whole story, Youxing frowned. He had no idea about the story when he was in school.

If it weren't for the fact that the place was too eerie, he wouldn't have come in to investigate at all.

"Well, someone else told me that a huge arson attack happened on the fifth floor here, killing eight people. Their vengeful spirits are still lingering here..."

The girl said timidly.

"We're here to debunk this rumor."

After the girl finished speaking, she didn't notice that Youxing's face was so gloomy it was almost dripping with water.

Yuuki took a deep breath, stopped, and asked with a hint of accusation, "Who told you this?"

The girl was startled by Yu Xing's tone. She was at a loss and looked at Wu Dao Gui Hu for help.

Wu Daogui also found it strange; he had never seen Youxing so angry before.

"What's wrong with this story? It looks like a cheap, fabricated story, completely meant to scare people."

Wu Daogui patted Youxing on the shoulder: "I know you really want to run away right now, but don't be so tense."

"It's not that I'm nervous, it's because it's true."

Yu Xing felt somewhat gloomy as those past events gradually resurfaced in his mind. He had never imagined that those events would actually be passed down as a story.

Fire, thick smoke, suffocation, the smell of flesh being roasted, cries for help...

Everything seemed to be happening again before her eyes. Yu Xing felt so nauseous that she was trembling all over, and her body temperature was rising involuntarily.

The surrounding temperature inexplicably rose, and Wu Daogui felt a scorching heat hitting his face.

He knew that Yuxing's health was acting up again, so he grabbed Yuxing's arm and shook it hard.

"Yuyuki!"

The call from Wu Dao Gui Hu promptly snapped Yu Xing out of his reverie, and he immediately felt dizzy and his limbs became uncontrollable.

"Get out of here!"

She began to stutter as Yuuki's consciousness gradually withdrew from her body.

Just as Wu Daogui was about to agree, he heard extremely heavy footsteps coming from the stairwell.

The girl next to her turned pale with fright at the sound of footsteps: "That monster was chasing my friend earlier. We made too much noise just now, and it's probably back."

As if things weren't going to go wrong, Wu Daogui cursed under his breath, looked around, grabbed the two men, and hid in a nearby classroom.

The desks in the classroom were piled up and covered in dust. Guihu quickly swept them over, then shoved the two under the podium. He himself hid behind the pile of desks to observe the situation.

"Oh dear..."

Heavy footsteps and shouts came from outside the door. The slightly chubby girl wanted to scream because of the heat from Yu Xing, but she had to cover her mouth tightly, her eyes filled with tears.
