There were only large expanses of black stone walls.
And the patterns carved on it.
Titus raised his hand.
The line stopped.
“There are no signs of recent activation here.”
An extreme soldier scans the ground.
"No large-scale units have passed through this area for at least tens of millions of years."
Evelynne stood before a massive black stone wall.
The carvings on the wall are long gone, and many areas have been worn smooth by time, but some outlines can still be seen.
Countless ancient undead armies lined up on the ground.
In the sky, a huge black entity was suspended.
It resembles a dark mass draped in a long robe, with only two points of cold light at its head, and a pair of curved structures behind it that resemble wings unfurled by death itself. In its hand, it holds an exaggerated scythe that spans almost the entire mural.
Beneath that existence, countless lives are dying.
Titus immediately noticed her unusual behavior.
"You know him?"
Evelyn's expression changed little by little.
Some names are simply myths to younger generations.
But this is not the case for the Eldar.
The history of the Eldar civilization is too ancient.
So ancient that many things that are now considered "legends" by humans actually existed in the Eldar's oldest memories.
Evelyn finally spoke in a low voice.
"The Messenger of the Night".
Titus frowned.
"what?"
Evelyn slowly raised her head.
"Star God".
Titus certainly knew the weight that the name represented.
Evelyn continued to stare at the mural:
"The Nightbringer is one of the oldest and most terrifying star gods. In the oldest records of the Eldar, it has instilled in countless races a primal fear of death itself."
"The reason why mortal races instinctively fear the dark deep in their genes, and instinctively personify death as a cloaked grim reaper wielding a long-handled scythe, is all because of the bloody imprint left by this monster in the various worlds of the galaxy tens of millions of years ago."
Titus gazed at the torn starry sky below the mural.
"Is it sleeping beneath this planet?"
"No, absolutely not."
Evelynn immediately shook her head: "If the complete Nightbringer is really sealed beneath this planet, we are not just facing a tomb war now."
She quickly walked towards the next stone wall.
The contents here are more incomplete, but it is still possible to see that the ancient undead divided some enormous entity into parts and then sealed them into different geometric containers. Further on, many patterns have been artificially erased.
Only one symbol appears repeatedly: a black circle with a sickle in the center.
"Fragments of the Night Messenger".
Evelyn finally came to a conclusion: "Anmental is collecting fragments of the Nightbringer."
"If these records are accurate, it's trying to piece the shattered Nightbringer back together!!"
Just then, a muffled tremor suddenly came from deep underground, and dust fell from the black stone dome.
Further away, an energy signal that had never appeared before began to slowly rise.
Evelyn said urgently, "Send out the topological and underlying analysis of the murals here immediately!"
Titus had already activated the highest emergency frequency, ready to deliver the message directly to Guilliman, who was directing the advance.
However, Evelyn pressed down on his handguard.
"Activate the stasis beacon that directly connects to Terra and send all data directly to the Master of the Seal."
"Involving the reassembly and awakening of Star God fragments..."
"This has far exceeded the limits that the Five Hundred Worlds themselves can handle."
Chapter 303: Six Star God Fragments Acquired
Terra, the residence of the Sealholder.
[Target confirmed: Fragment of the Night Messenger]
The Destroyer warlord Necroso Ammental is suspected of collecting fragments of the Nightbringer scattered throughout the galaxy.
[Ultimate goal unclear]
[High probability of involving the reassembly of Star God fragments]
Lawson's expression turned strange.
He had never intended to go there himself when he heard that a large necromantic tomb had appeared in the Five Hundred Worlds.
It turned out that this kind of thing was buried underground.
"What a kind person."
Isa, sitting to the side flipping through a report on inter-civilization technology, had a hint of confusion in her clear eyes: "What?"
“I’m talking about Guilliman.”
Lawson leaned back in his large chair and pointed to the report on the light screen: "If you think about it carefully, I really owe him a lot of favors over the years. He prepared the Emperor's Golden Armor and presented the Emperor's Sword with both hands. Now, he can casually dig up a Star God Fragment from the ground for me in his own backyard."
"This favor is truly significant. Once this war is over, we'll have to find a really big gift to send back to Macurag."
Isa could easily guess Lawson's thoughts. The Goddess of Life put down the parchment scroll in her hand and smiled, "So, you plan to personally make a trip to Alteramar and snatch that fragment from that Destroyer?"
"That was originally mine, so how can you say it was taken from me?"
Lawson stated matter-of-factly, "Nova Magno is Imperial territory. The minerals buried underground, as well as the ancient artifacts, have belonged to the Empire since the Great Expedition."
As they spoke, the swarm began gathering all the information related to the Nightbringer.
This includes, but is not limited to, ancient records from the Mechanicus, fragmented archives seized from the Necropolis, and some of the War of Heaven materials released by the Eldar.
The more you look, the more obvious Lawson's smile becomes.
He had indeed underestimated the power of the Star God fragments.
What is a Star God?
It wasn't a more powerful alien life form, nor was it a material universe version of a demon lord.
They are ancient beings born from the energy of stars and the universe.
Before possessing the metallic shell of an undead being, the most primitive star gods even fed on the energy released by stars, wandering among the electromagnetic and energy oceans on a cosmic scale.
Later, the Fearful Ones sculpted living metallic bodies for them. For the first time, these originally scattered stellar life forms possessed highly condensed material carriers. It was also in that era that the Star Gods became material cosmic deities capable of influencing the wars in Heaven.
Stars are food, matter is toys, and the real universe itself is the foundation of their power.
Even today's space necromancers are, in a sense, works left over from the era of the Star Gods.
He already has a Void Dragon fragment.
Over the years, the value that fragment has brought to the Empire can no longer be measured solely by technological advancements.
Therefore, even though Lawson knew long ago that his next genetic base leap would require a divine core belonging to the material universe, he never considered taking the Void Dragon fragment.
As long as the Void Dragon lives, it can continue to spew out its contents for another day.
"That guy on Mars is essentially more like a research institute director locked in a top-tier laboratory," Lawson commented with a smile.
Isa couldn't help but smile: "What kind of research institute director spends all his time wanting to grind all the researchers to dust?"
"A slightly nasty personality is no big deal."
Lawson waved his hand, "As long as I can continue to supply the Empire with blueprints, even if it curses me and the Mechanicus for ten thousand years while it's sealed away, I can still make it live peacefully."
By killing the Void Dragon Fragment, he can only gain one power boost at most.
By keeping it, the empire was able to reverse-engineer its technology for thousands of years.
When Lawson placed the structural models of the two Star God fragments side by side, the difference immediately became apparent.
The Void Dragon represents machinery, technology, energy, material structure, and a high degree of dominance over the mechanical systems of the real universe.
Where is the messenger of the night?
For a Star God of the Night's Blessing level, that is closer to the end of the material universe.
It can plunder life energy, destroy material structures, crush life with its control over the laws of reality, and deeply imprint the most primal fear of death into the collective memory of countless intelligent races.
This is a material god who takes killing as his way of existence.
Lawson stared at the simulation results for a long time.
If the Void Dragon is an irreplaceable tree of civilization technology, then the Nightbringer is an ultimate material warhead forged specifically to shatter the gods.
This warhead is the perfect piece of the puzzle that Lawson sought to complete his eighth genetic basal leap.
The bee colony quickly began to simulate merging.
At this stage, after completing seven genetic base leaps, Lawson has already reached the peak Primal level solely based on his physical body.
The dual-phase overlord godhood allows his existence to be half rooted in the warp and half anchored in reality.
However, this system still has a significant imbalance.
