Lawson issued new action orders to all the assassins through telepathic communication.
In addition to the three existing hunting routes, three new extension routes have been added, extending into unexplored areas to the northeast, northwest, and due west.
Twenty hours later, a discovery that made Lawson's eyes light up appeared.
After advancing for about four kilometers along an old ship's internal transport track heading due west, the five suicide soldiers of their squad encountered an area that had been extensively modified by the Greenskin crew at a huge cargo hub.
It was a large mechanical cabin with an area of at least two thousand square meters.
But it no longer resembles what the interior of an Imperial warship should look like.
The ceiling was covered with a dense network of wires, chains and pipes, like a giant spider weaving a chaotic web in a metal jungle.
The ground was littered with metal parts of various shapes and sizes, as well as piles of unidentifiable mechanical waste.
On several crudely made workbenches pieced together from unidentified metals, various weapons and devices being modified were placed.
The Green-skinned Tech Master's Workshop.
Lawson's heart skipped a beat.
Tech Boy is an anomaly among the Greenskins, possessing an innate, incredible mechanical intuition.
They look at a pile of scrap metal for three minutes, then hammer it, tie it with wire, and rivet it, and that pile of scrap metal can actually run.
It doesn't rely on physical laws, but on Waaagh energy.
But for Lawson, Techmaster Workshop is first and foremost a treasure trove of high-value metals and recyclable equipment.
Through the exchange of consciousness, Lawson carefully surveyed the interior of the workshop.
On the left side of the workshop, several disassembled Imperial war machine engines were piled up in a chaotic logic that only Greenskins could understand.
Those engines have an extremely high steel content; if all of them were absorbed, the steel reserves would experience a huge leap.
On the workbench, an Imperial standard laser cannon is being modified.
Techba welded three additional tubes of varying thicknesses onto its cannon barrel, making the entire cannon look like a metal octopus with four tentacles.
Deep inside the workshop, Lawson saw something that made his eyebrows suddenly rise.
Chapter 23 Surprise Attack
An Imperial Sentinel walking mech.
To be precise, it's half a platform.
Its leg structure is basically intact.
But from the waist up, it's completely unrecognizable.
The original cockpit was removed.
A huge rotating gun mount was welded onto the standard weapon hardpoints in front of the cockpit.
Even more outrageous, a huge iron plate was welded onto the front panel of the operating platform, on which a grinning orc face was crudely carved, with the positions of the two eyes hollowed out to make observation ports.
This walking mech was only about halfway through its modification.
"Good stuff," Lawson thought to himself.
But good things are always accompanied by difficult things.
There were at least thirty farts busy in the workshop.
They carry parts, pass tools, get beaten, get kicked away, get up and continue carrying—this is the daily life of the farts in the Green Workshop.
Eight fully armed orc boys served as guards around the perimeter of the group of fart sprites.
Their equipment was significantly better than that of the ordinary patrol of orc boys, with higher armor coverage, and two of them were even carrying heavily modified Imperial bomb muskets.
These are the Techies' personal guards. In the Greenskin ecosystem, although the Techies aren't the fiercest fighters, the weapons they create make even the most capable Orc lads willing to serve as their bodyguards.
In front of the largest workbench in the center of the workshop stood a green-skinned man who was almost half a head shorter than the other orc lads.
The master of skills itself.
Its size is not outstanding among orcs, but its head is noticeably larger than that of its kind.
The disproportionately large head was topped with a bizarre helmet made of sheet metal and lenses, from which at least six retractable mechanical arms extended, each end of which was equipped with different tools.
Welding torch, screwdriver, pliers, hammer.
It was bending over, making some kind of adjustment to the power lines of the unfinished walking mech.
Every few seconds, it would grab a part from the workbench in front of it, glance at it, and then either stuff it into the pipeline or throw it at the head of the unlucky guy next to it who had handed it the wrong tool.
Lawson shifted his focus away from the exchange of consciousness.
The value of the Tech Master Workshop is undeniable, but its defensive facilities should not be underestimated.
Lawson spent about twenty minutes devising an attack plan.
Four squads. Squads A and B launched a frontal assault to draw enemy fire, Squad C maneuvered around from the right-side maintenance passage, and Squad D infiltrated above the workshop through the ceiling ventilation ducts.
The four teams confirmed the order and began moving to their respective starting positions.
Lawson himself followed the first team and personally directed the frontal attack.
Fifteen minutes later.
All teams are in position.
"start."
Rank A and Rank B launched their attack simultaneously from both sides of the front entrance of the workshop.
Number 1 was the first to peek out from behind the cover, aiming his bomb gun at the gunner who was dozing off behind the firing platform on the left.
"boom!"
The gunner's head shattered into a cloud of green mist under the impact of the explosive bomb.
But the gunner on the right firing platform was awakened by the gunfire.
It let out a shriek, its two thin, green claws gripping the trigger of the heavy automatic cannon.
"Da da da da da!"
The crudely made projectiles poured towards the entrance with a completely unstable trajectory.
The suicide squad members from Class A and Class B were pinned behind the bunkers on both sides of the entrance.
At the same time, the rotating turret was also activated.
The rotating base began to slowly turn under the drive of the springs, and the multi-barreled rotary machine gun emitted a chilling buzzing sound.
"Da da da... da da da... da da da..."
As the hail of bullets swept across the entrance, several bullets struck the metal bunker next to No. 1, leaving several finger-sized bullet holes in the steel plate.
But bullets also swept through the workshop.
The two unlucky bastards happened to be standing right in the line of fire of the rotating turret and were riddled with holes by their own machine gun.
"Alas!"
"Get out of the way! That metal lump is shooting randomly again!"
The fart spirits inside the workshop let out screams of agony, scattering in all directions, clutching their heads.
The Orc Boys' Guard reacted quickly.
"Waaagh! There's a shrimp coming! Brothers, let's go!"
Eight orc boys charged toward the entrance, weapons in hand.
Lawson counted the firing rhythm of the rotating turret from behind the bunker.
"A complete rotation takes about twelve seconds. A scan of the window facing the entrance takes about two seconds. There is a ten-second safety window in between."
"Squad A, wait for the artillery to sweep across!"
Just as the rotating turret's muzzle swept past the entrance and turned to the left of the workshop, the five members of Squad A simultaneously emerged from behind cover and focused their fire on the charging orc boy.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Three explosive shells hit the orc boy who was charging at the front.
The orc boy staggered a couple of steps, but didn't fall.
It let out a roar and raised the modified Imperial Heavy Bomb Gun in its hand.
The second bomb from No. 1 hit its face first.
The orc boy's head exploded.
"retreat!"
The rotating turret's muzzle was about to sweep across the entrance again, and the suicide squad retreated behind their cover.
"Da da da da..."
Bullets flew past the edge of the bunker.
At the same moment that the direct firefight drew all the attention in the workshop, Squad C had already infiltrated the outer area of the workshop through a maintenance passage on the right.
"Ding Ban, get started."
Above the ceiling.
The five suicide soldiers from Squad D had been crawling forward in the ventilation duct for more than twenty minutes.
Squad Leader Number 11 peered through the grille at the bottom of the pipe at the gun emplacement below, which was constantly rotating and firing.
Five people jumped down from the pipe at the same time.
The sound of the landing was completely masked by the noise of the guns firing from the turret itself.
At the same moment he landed, Number 11 precisely inserted an Imperial Standard Fragmentation Grenade, with its safety pin already removed, into the gap between the rotating turret base and the rotating mechanism.
"boom!"
The grenade exploded inside the core structure of the turret.
