The drones don't need to rest; they dig downwards day and night. First, they use laser mapping to confirm the risk of collapse, then they let the drilling machine cut through the rock layers, and finally they use prefabricated support rings to support the underground space.
Many local workers are only responsible for pushing the marked materials to the designated location, while the actual construction is done by drones.
The transformation of the San Bartolo low-rail grain silo complex is more direct.
The platform there is suspended on the track, lacking ground depth and unable to rely on soil and mountains for cushioning.
The drones treated the entire orbital grain silo as a stationary warship.
The civilian storage area was divided into independent compartments, with narrower corridors, thicker doors, and automatic flamethrowers and explosive cannon positions embedded in the corners.
The long, straight passageway that was originally intended for workers to move boxes was converted into a boarding ramp.
A new steel frame grew around the outer wall of the track platform.
The drones towed dismantled cargo cranes, scrap ship hulls, and spare armor plates, completing the cutting, welding, and assembly in a vacuum.
Small thrusters emitted short bursts of blue light, and hundreds of drones rotated around the outer edge of the platform, welding gun mounts, shield nodes, and interceptor missile boxes into the outer shell.
The most frightening thing about these drones is not how powerful a single one is, but that they have no concept of a "construction site".
To build a fortress, humans first need to draw lines, clear the site, transport materials, erect scaffolding, divide tasks, wait for mechanical inspection, and then gradually build up the structure.
Once the drones land, battlefields, mines, factories, and construction sites will appear simultaneously.
The first batch of drones was still digging trenches, while the next batch had already sent the excavated ore into the furnace.
As soon as the furnace produced its first batch of steel beams, the transport drone caught them and flew away.
Before the steel beam had fully cooled, the welding drone attached itself to complete the assembly.
Waste is recycled, old buildings are dismantled, broken drones are towed back to the repair nest, and the dismantled parts are directly installed on the next drone.
The world that Guilliman and Leontus had originally listed as scorched earth was thus reshaped by the welding, casting, and cutting of tens of millions of drones.
Lawson ordered the drones to continue construction, to reinforce the fortifications, and to connect every crossfire point and every underground passage to the swarm dispatch network.
The next step is to lure the Zerg to these battlefields.
……
After the flames of war broke out in the Pacific Starfield, the chaotic forces within the Eye of Fear finally sensed an opportunity.
The main force of the Empire's Dark Side is being transferred to the Holy Side on a large scale. Lawson has personally taken over the front line of the Pacific Sector. Many of the Empire's Dark Side combat units are engaged in a fierce battle with the Tyranid swarm.
When this news reached the Eye of Fear, it was like a piece of flesh thrown into a boiling, rotten sea.
Abaddon was the first to make a move; he had been frustrated by Lawson's beatings over the years.
He was once the ruler of the Thirteenth Black Crusade, the one who tore open the Great Rift, and the war lord who plunged half of the empire into darkness.
On the battlefield of the Empire's dark side, however, he was repeatedly held down by the neck by Lawson, making it difficult to launch even a truly large-scale counterattack.
This time, he didn't want to wait any longer.
The Black Legion's warships are gathering deep within the Eye of Fear.
Battleships covered in blasphemous inscriptions emerged from the Crimson Nebula, the banner of the traitorous Astartes Chapter fluttering outside the bridge.
The Black Legion, the Crimson Butcher, the Fallen Warband, the Boarding Fleet, the Slave Transport Ships, and the Demon Engine Towing Platforms—one after another, the chaotic forces that had been suppressed by Lawson for many years were once again drawing closer to Abaddon's command.
Vashtor, the demigod craftsman, has also suffered heavy losses in recent years.
His Ominous Ark project was sabotaged by Lawson, and the key fragments could not be gathered in time. What was supposed to be a great project to unlock the secrets of the galaxy's core was turned into a complete mess.
He also understood that the window of opportunity for Lawson to remain away from the shadows of the empire was extremely short.
If we don't act now, once the main force of the Empire's dark side withdraws from the Pacific Starfield, the Eye of Fear will be pushed back into the fold.
And so, the world of Vashtor's foundries began to spew black smoke.
The demon engine was dragged out of the pit, and the half-mechanical, half-flesh behemoth awoke in its chains.
The twisted cultist knelt at the edge of the furnace, stuffing human sacrifices into the engine core.
On the deck of the deformed warship, soul cannons were being reloaded, and mechanical demons crawled through the pipes, welding screaming soul stones, slave brains, and chaotic runes into the weapon systems.
The Nurgle faction is also gathering, for a more direct reason: Mortarion has disappeared.
His presence vanished so completely that even the compassionate father, Na Gou, could not sense his location.
For the Great Demon Nurgle, this alone speaks volumes.
It's very likely that Mortarian has been captured by Lawson.
Upon this conclusion, countless rotting fleets in the Sea of Plague began to move.
Warships covered in mold emerged from a nebula of pus, their bows trailing infected corpses and shattered icons.
The Grand Dark Lords grumbled and laughed in the shadows of the Rotten Garden, eventually reaching the same foul decision: to spread plague across the dark side of the Empire, to overturn the crust of every world, to rot the flesh of every fortress, and to search for the missing Primarch.
The Khorne faction had been waiting impatiently for a long time.
Countless bloodthirsty demons, skull harvesters, Khorne warbands, and brass warships yearn to break free of the Eye of Terror and spill their blood on every planet in the Empire's dark side.
For them, opportunities, strategies, supplies, and window of opportunity are not important; what matters is that they finally have a reason to go out and kill.
The Tzeentch faction did not act so directly.
The remnants of the Thousand Sons, the traitorous wizards, the Silver Tower fleet, and various weavers of fate are all moving in unseen corners.
Instead of rushing to issue declarations of war, they quietly exchanged prophecies, repaired old rituals, and spread false information within the fog of fear.
Lawson's deployment of troops to the Holy Land is not only a military lull for Tzeentch, but could also be a rift that changes the course of his destiny.
Only the Slaanesh faction remains temporarily quiet.
Deep within the Eye of Fear, music still emanates from certain palaces, and fleets remain stationary behind the Illusory Nebula, as if waiting for a better stage, or perhaps brewing something more sinister.
But this does not affect the overall situation.
The Chaos faction has finally achieved a rare alignment.
While Lawson is away, and while the empire's dark side is vulnerable, let's take back everything we've lost.
The Eye of Fear began to boil.
Crimson warp tides surged from the depths of the rift, carrying demonic whispers, decaying starlight, reversed time, and countless shipwrecks, forming twisted channels at the edge of the Eye of Terror.
The Chaos Fleet rose up in these waterways.
The boundary of the real universe lies before them as thin as a rotting skin; if it were torn open just a little more, this black tide would surge toward the dark borders of the Empire.
The Chaos Fleet is all too familiar with this environment.
Space here is curved, time is fractured, and warp storms lift up fleets like a tide.
The sorcerer only needed to slit the throats of slaves on the deck to create a short-range rift in front of the bow.
The traitorous captain only needs to heed the whispers to bypass the Imperial outposts by following the Chaos Channel.
The demon engine ship relies on this distorted environment, using the power surging from the warp to keep those flesh and blood pipes, bone decks, and soul furnaces that shouldn't exist running.
This time, they should have made it out smoothly.
Then, the edge of the Eye of Fear suddenly darkened.
The chaotic colors of that area were forcefully suppressed by something older and colder.
A black rift split open amidst the reddish-purple mist.
Initially, it was just a corner.
A black, overly clean and sharp geometric shape slowly emerged from the distorted starlight.
When the surrounding subspace mist collided with it, it immediately tumbled to both sides like boiling oil meeting ice.
Subsequently, more structures emerged.
A massive black stone prism emerged from the crack, like a continent that had been submerged in darkness since before the birth of the universe, dragged to the entrance of the Eye of Fear by an unseen hand.
The Seventh Blackrock Fortress emerged from the boundary between reality and the warp.
The moment it appeared, the storm at the edge of the Eye of Fear was contained.
The surging subspace tides suddenly stopped, like a roaring beast having its throat pierced by an iron nail.
Several of the leading demon engine ships were the first to lose control.
The writhing flesh and blood vessels on the outer wall of the ship shrank rapidly, as if drained of pus and blood. The huge eyeballs embedded in the hull burst open one by one, and the turbid liquid splashed onto the deck, congealing into black scabs before it could flow.
The bone plates that were originally suspended by the power of the warp emitted a tooth-grinding cracking sound, and screams came from the depths of the demon engine, like a group of wild beasts locked in an iron box.
Further away, the mold on the outer layer of the Nurgle Plague Ship began to turn white.
The abscesses stopped throbbing, the rotting tissue lost its activity, and many of the grime imps clinging to the hull suddenly lost their form, as if they had been smashed into the cracks of the deck by an invisible hammer, turning into a lifeless puddle of mud.
The space around Blackrock Fortress began to harden.
It was an extremely strange feeling.
The Chaos Fleet had grown accustomed to the softness of the Eye of Fear.
Space can be torn apart, waterways can be folded, time can be sacrificed, and distance can be twisted into a knot by the whispers of demons.
However, after the Seventh Blackrock Fortress appeared, those rules that could be arbitrarily manipulated by chaos are solidifying one by one.
The distorted waterway was flattened.
Before the subspace rift could even open, it was crushed from the edge by the Black Stone resonance.
The demon wizard stood on the bridge altar, trying to tear open a short-range portal with the blood of slaves, but the blood on the array did not boil; instead, it congealed into a black, hard shell as if frozen to death.
One by one, the runes went out, and the souls of the sacrificers did not scream as they fell into the warp. Instead, they were forcibly pressed back into their corpses, turning into withered, dead faces with wide-open eyes.
A low-level demon had just poked half its body out of the crack.
The crack closed in the next instant.
Its upper body remained in the real universe, being continuously thinned by the black rock's stabilizing field, and finally, like an insect being crushed by a giant gate, it screamed and shrank back into the subspace.
The chaotic army has not yet stepped into the dark side of the empire.
They first crashed into a cosmic-level black stone gate.
The exit of the Eye of Fear has been blocked by the Seventh Blackrock Fortress!
