Warhammer: Empire Reboot
Page 924
The Black Legion's main fleet was positioned at the forefront, followed by the remnants of the Death Guard fleet, the brass warships of the Khorne cultists, the crystal behemoths controlled by the Tzeentch wizard, and the high-speed raiders under the command of the Lord of Pleasure.
Further away, there were numerous Chaos ships whose allegiance could not be accurately identified.
Some of them have no stable form at all, and only maintain a vague outline that can barely be called a ship in the subspace waves.
The battlefield became even more chaotic.
The entire Chaos faction finally began to truly reinforce its troops.
Moreover, the increase in troops is massive, seemingly regardless of cost.
The consequences of the Eye of Fear being blocked by the Seventh Blackrock Fortress have made it impossible for any evil god to remain a bystander.
If the exits are blocked for a long time, the Chaos Legion will not be able to freely rush into Imperial territory as it did in the past.
Without mass killings and large-scale sacrifices, the anchor points for demons in the real universe will continue to decrease.
Many rifts maintained by blood sacrifices and plagues will gradually close during the purges by the Empire's dark side. Without the invasion of the Chaos Legion, it will be even more difficult for demons to descend into the real universe.
Blackrock Fortress, blocking the Eye of Fear, is severing the only main passage between the entire Chaos system and the real universe.
The threat posed by Blackrock Fortress is many times greater than that of Cardia back then.
The Nurgle faction went even crazier.
Mortalian's head still hangs on the black stone pillar outside the Seventh Blackrock Fortress.
Er Gou would turn on the radio every day.
I asked Mortalian if he would catch a cold after being exposed to the wind for so long.
Occasionally, he would order engineers to replace the lighting equipment on Black Pillar with a brighter one, ensuring that the distant fleet could also see the rotting head.
Even without Mortalian's head to provoke them, the Nurgle faction would go even crazier, because Nurgle Gardens has been invaded again!
This is far more serious than Mortarian's death!
The wrath of the benevolent father is watching them, driving the Nurgle faction ever more insane.
The other three companies finally realized that things were getting out of control.
Khorne initially only wanted to see the war escalate further.
As long as there is enough blood on the battlefield, it makes no difference to Him whether it is shed by Imperials or Chaos cultists.
Tzeentch has been trying to figure out the structure of the Seventh Blackrock Fortress and what plans Lawson intends to use it for.
As the Blackrock Blockade continued to expand and a large number of demons found themselves unable to enter the real universe normally, the other three evil gods began to channel more of their power into the Eye of Terror.
But by the time reinforcements actually arrived, the battlefield had completely changed.
Around the Seventh Blackrock Fortress, five battle moons are slowly rotating.
They resemble five gray-black planets covered with steel mountains, forming a massive defensive ring around the 2,000-kilometer-long Blackstone Fortress.
The first combat moon was responsible for blocking the airway above the fortress.
The second and third stones were stuck on the left and right flanks respectively.
The remaining two are hidden in the shadows behind, ready to be repositioned at any time via stasis projection to bombard the Chaos Fleet that breaks through the lines at close range.
Between the five battle moons lies a massive Imperial Dark Fleet.
A defensive force of this size was unheard of in past wars, and its firepower was so formidable that even the Chaos faction felt despair.
The group led by the USS Abbotton was anchored in the very center.
Eleven main warships formed the second line of defense.
Further out are thousands of cruisers, frigates, transport ships, and fast attack craft.
The Seventh Blackrock Fortress floats quietly between the five battle moons, looking less like a war fortress in action.
But all the Chaos ships knew that it was the most dangerous thing in the entire defense system.
The geometry of the fortress surface changes periodically.
Then, a black beam of death pierced through the star field.
Large demon warships, ominous arks, and giant transport ships modified by corrupting forces have virtually no chance of escape once locked onto by that death ray.
One shot, and it's dead; not even a wreck remains.
Those smaller ships that try to avoid the death ray and use their numerical advantage to rush into close range will then enter the crossfire zone of the five combat moons.
High-density shells, orbital projectiles, missiles, heavy railgun beams, and anti-demon golden fire intertwine in the starry sky.
This star system has become a meat grinder.
No matter how they fought, the Seventh Blackrock Fortress remained blocked, not retreating even a kilometer.
……
Abaddon stared at the holographic star map in silence.
In the star chart, five enormous battle moons orbit Blackrock Fortress at different speeds.
You can feel that terrifying sense of suffocation even through the screen.
A Black Legion officer is reporting the latest battle losses.
"The third strike group suffered a loss of 61 percent."
"The Skull Lord's fleet launched an attack from the left flank and has broken through the first layer of drone defenses, but is currently under crossfire from the second and fourth battle moons."
"The Wizarding Order of the Lord of Changes attempted to alter the local spatial coordinates, and Blackrock Fortress released a phase pulse, interrupting the ritual."
"The Lord of Pleasure's raiding ships are approaching from below. The Fifth Battle Moon has completed its turn and is blocking the retreat route."
"Death Guard..."
Abaddon whirled around and growled, "Enough! Stop reporting the Death Guard to me! They're useless!"
The officer immediately shut up.
Abaddon stared at the dwindling number of Chaos ship markers on the star map, his chest rising and falling slowly. He was utterly disappointed.
The evil gods finally reinforced their troops, but these reinforcements arrived too late.
When the Seventh Blackrock Fortress had just sealed the Eye of Terror, the Empire's dark side fleet was not yet fully in place.
That's the stage where the fortress is most easily destroyed.
If the four evil gods had stopped plotting against each other from the beginning, and instead gathered all the legions that could be mobilized in the entire warp to launch a simultaneous attack from all directions, the Seventh Blackrock Fortress might not have been able to hold its ground.
Even with its immense power, Blackrock needs time to adjust.
Even the most powerful Fortress Death Ray cannot eliminate all targets simultaneously.
If enough fleets had been able to penetrate the interior, the Dark Mechanicus would have had a chance to destroy the energy nodes, and the demon legions might have been able to establish an anchor point before Blackrock Fields was fully deployed.
But what were the evil gods doing at that time?
Nurgle awaits the outcome of Mortalian's failed rescue attempt.
Khorne was busy watching the war grow ever larger.
Treachery wanted other factions to test the fortress's trump cards first.
Slaanesh was observing Lawson, seemingly more interested in the Imperial mad dog himself than in the Eye of Fear.
Everyone hopes that the other factions will be at the forefront.
By the time they finally realized that the exit might really be permanently sealed off, Lawson had already placed five battle moons around the fortress.
Abaddon slammed his fist on the tactical table.
"Where were you all this time? A bunch of incompetent insects with no sense of the big picture!"
The adjutant standing behind him dared not echo such remarks.
Abaddon rarely showed such obvious anger in front of his men; he had always been able to control his emotions.
He was adept at finding opportunities in failures and at getting the Chaos Legion, who were at odds with each other, to temporarily obey orders.
These are all abilities of a War General.
That is why he was able to launch the Black Expedition time and time again, and why he was able to maintain his position as War Master within the Eye of Fear.
Lately, Abaddon has found it increasingly difficult to remain calm and his emotions have become more and more unstable.
The adjutant guessed that, apart from that damned ruler of the empire, the war general was mostly angered by the Chaos Gods.
If they hadn't been holding us back, the commander wouldn't be in such a passive position.
The adjutant even felt a little sorry for his commander!
What kind of incompetent teammates are they?
Abaddon looked at the star chart for a while, then suddenly asked:
"Where did Lawson get so many combat moons?"
The adjutant was taken aback; this question hadn't appeared in the battle report earlier.
Abaddon didn't wait for his reply.
"He doesn't have a single Imperial Holy Noodle, so how come he has five?"
The adjutant pondered for a moment: "It was probably stolen from the orcs, after all, the first one was stolen from the orcs."
Abaddon paused for a moment, then cursed, "Orcs are trash too! They even managed to steal the Battle Moon! A bunch of useless Squiggs!"
…………
Guilliman and the Lion King have left the Seventh Blackrock Fortress.
Lawson returned from Nurgle Gardens, and their mission to draw Chaos's attention there came to an end.
The two Primarchs were sent directly to the bridge of the USS Abaddon.
They were also speechless about the name, but it was in line with Lawson's style.
Outside the massive porthole, the Eye of Fear continued to spew fury at the warships, the battle raging on.
The Lion King's gaze remained fixed on the tactical projection. This was only possible because of Lawson; otherwise, neither the Holy Face nor the Dark Side of the Empire could withstand such a frenzied force of the Chaos Gods.
Five battle moons form a mobile defensive system around the Seventh Blackrock Fortress. Any Chaos fleet that attempts to approach will enter the crossfire range of at least two battle moons.
