Now, Ms. Priscilla goes to the same Owl Post Office every two or three days to collect mail. She mainly helps collect letters from Winnie's distant friends—Winnie has recruited some people to help or join Dumbledore's secret society, as well as some letters from her own hometown in Devonshire.
The letter Prarese wrote was so illegible that even Ms. Priscilla herself couldn't decipher it.
The first night of school.
"Great news! Harry Potter talked back to Professor Umbridge this afternoon and was punished with detention." Draco couldn't hide his schadenfreude as he said happily, "How touching! Harry Potter said that the reason he let Diggory go first was because he was afraid that Diggory would be killed by the Dark Lord, and that the Dark Lord couldn't kill him."
Pansy played with her nails and added, "Potter said he had a fierce battle with the Dark Lord, so fierce that even his mother came out. He also said—the Dark Lord used the Crucifixion Curse on him!"
"How naive!" she chuckled. "Look, Potter actually wants to convince the Ministry of Magic's representatives in class that the Dark Lord has been resurrected!"
Daphne chuckled lazily and said, "That stupid lion's head, so single-minded, you'd think he lived on the African savanna and all he had to do was eat and sleep."
“Foolish enemies are the stepping stones to our good days,” Pansy said with a laugh. “We should pray there are more fools like that. It seems our days are going to be better after Moody.”
"Why?" Milison asked, puzzled. "Umbridge doesn't seem to like students at all, and he might not give us a friendly look either."
Praris shook his head: "Millie, Umbridge is a politician, not an ordinary professor. No official likes to do things personally. Since she has offended Dumbledore so badly, she will inevitably choose Slytherin as her pawn."
Similarly, when Umbridge targeted Harry Potter, the Slytherins were happy to add fuel to the fire.
Draco nodded in agreement: “In fact, Burstir, you can put your mind at ease. Umbridge is an official from our Slytherin line*, and my father spoke with Fudge before school started. Fudge said he hoped Professor Umbridge would strengthen the students' education and control the bad phenomenon of ‘Harry Potter spouting nonsense for fame.’”
Umbridge, so she was actually an official from Slytherin?
Praris went over Stella's letter in his mind. Stella had successfully dealt with Umbridge, and Stella's aunt said that Umbridge thought Stella was supporting her.
It seems that Stella's upcoming promotion may not only be due to her good performance and flattery, but also a form of mutual support and exchange of benefits among the Slytherin faction.
The next day, after breakfast, the Slytherins arrived in twos and threes at the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.
Umbridge was already seated behind the podium, dressed in her usual sickeningly sweet outfit. She wore a fluffy pink cardigan, a beret, and was surrounded by pink lace and tulle.
Umbridge said in a high-pitched voice, "Good afternoon, students!"
The Slytherins looked at each other, having never encountered such a situation before.
At that moment, Draco suddenly said loudly, "Good afternoon, Professor Umbridge."
The other students immediately followed suit: "Good afternoon, Professor Umbridge."
“Oh, look at the spirit of our Slytherins,” Umbridge said, pouting. “Especially you, Malfoy.”
Prarese swore she saw a hint of embarrassment on Draco's face—his fingers were indeed subtly digging into the chair beneath him.
Umbridge, in a high-pitched, girlish voice, said, "Classmates, please put away your wands and take out your quills. In my class, such dangerous things as wands will not be used."
Praris saw Milison flinch and rub her arms together. The girl was wincing, looking like she had just eaten a cake with too much sugar.
"Class, let me guess, what you learned in Defense Against the Dark Arts class was all disjointed and incoherent from the previous year, right?"
After saying that, Umbridge made an exaggerated "X" sign in front of him: "We are all very, very sorry that the past Defense Against the Dark Arts professors did not follow the Ministry of Magic's requirements in their teaching."
“From today onward, all past mistakes will be corrected. Your new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Umbridge, will give you a meticulously prepared, Ministry-approved, and theoretically grounded course.”
Emmm...
Praris frowned involuntarily. She felt that this witch looked like the kind of fake kindergarten teacher who would kidnap children, every cell in her body screaming "dramatic" and "affected."
By the time Umbridge started writing what she was going to teach on the blackboard, Prareas's brow was furrowed so deeply it could have killed a fly.
What is black magic?
The basic principles of black magic.
What is Defense Against Black Magic?
Characteristics of black magic.
The history of black magic.
The development of defense against black magic.
The effects of black magic defense.
The practical significance and application of defense against black magic.
Ah, the course content is so clear and easy to understand!
Dumbledore, you really are something... How could such a huge pink wasp fly into your own territory! What if it stings a student?
Is this some kind of strategy of feigning weakness to the enemy?
The Ministry of Magic is quite amazing. Faced with Voldemort's imminent return, their solution was to transform Hogwarts into a wizarding version of a Muggle liberal arts school. Wow!
What a brilliant response!
It's truly breathtaking!
A very small number of Slytherin students were blankly copying the book as Umbridge had instructed, while most were already playing with their quills, tables, and the sleeves of their robes.
There were all sorts of people, but not a single one of them questioned Umbridge's teaching content.
Of course that's how it is; that's Slytherin for you.
Less bright students don't care what's in class; they can just sleep through it, like with History of Magic. Most bright students, however, have a pretty good idea of Umbridge's background and don't want to offend the Minister Undersecretary of Magic.
If any random Slytherin were to comment on this, they would probably say: "Ah, that's how we Slytherins are; our inside information spreads faster than the virus."
After finally getting through the class, the four girls walked out of the classroom yawning, all looking like they hadn't woken up yet.
Millison stared blankly into her eyes: "What did she say in class just now, Pry? I feel like my mind is completely blank, I don't remember anything."
“I don’t know,” Praris said honestly.
“Oh, I told you…” Milison said in surprise, “What, you didn’t know?”
Praris nodded earnestly: "I take time from time to time to clear some of the clutter from my mind. Class was so boring just now, so I was busy cleaning up."
"This lesson seems like sugarcane pulp that's been squeezed dry, with absolutely nothing of value," scientist Daphne concluded after observing the higher-dimensional being Praris.
Praris said calmly, "The Ministry of Magic is scared, isn't it? Hogwarts is Dumbledore's territory. They're afraid that Dumbledore will brainwash the students to support him and train a group of his supporters or something."
"Dumbledore's supporters?" Millison said in surprise. "Us?"
“Gryffindors,” Prarese said, “like Harry Potter.”
“Then we’ve really been caught in an undeserved disaster,” Millison said doubtfully. “So, now we have to study ‘The Development of Dark Magic’ to pass the OWLS certificate exam for Defense Against the Dark Arts? Is that it?”
“It seems so. But I think we might learn dark magic faster than defense against it. After all, we're Slytherins, aren't we?” Pansy said sarcastically.
Daphne laughed and said, "Mirison, what are you talking about? Have we ever had even one normal Defense Against the Dark Arts professor?"
Millison pondered deeply and concluded, "No, I don't think so."
Prarese rummaged through her bag: "Perhaps there's some advantage to Umbridge's courses being a bit easy, after all, none of the other courses have assignments shorter than a foot of parchment—have you done your assignments?"
"Ah—don't remind me of that!"
The wails of three girls, desperate to escape reality, rang out.
The professors for other courses remained as normal as ever, unaffected by the Umbridge virus. However, when it came to OWLS, every professor acted as if facing a formidable enemy, repeatedly emphasizing the importance of this exam.
"You need to work even harder so that you can pass the exam smoothly."
—This is Professor Flitwick.
"If you don't calm down and put in enough time and effort, don't even think about passing the OWLS exam."
—This is Professor McGonagall.
"But I still hope that everyone, no matter how well you study, will never give up the opportunity to pass the exam."
—This is Ms. Sprout.
"You only have two choices. The first is to study hard and pass. What? Is that even a question? The second choice is not to study hard and then get scolded to death by your parents."
—This is Professor Sinister.
Praris had no need to review the first four years of coursework. She had stored the material in her mind for quick reference at any time.
However, the new semester still brought some challenging new material, such as the Vanishing Charm required for the Transfiguration class, which Praris only succeeded on his second attempt.
Just as she was engrossed in her studies, Harry received a letter from "Cold"—that is, Sirius Black.
Chapter 103 Senior Investigator
“Harry, you wrote to Sirius?” Hermione asked in surprise. “We didn’t even know that.”
Harry raised his hand and swore, "I was just about to write it! But I haven't had a chance to do it yet!"
Hermione and Ron were both puzzled. Why had Sirius suddenly sent a letter? Had something happened?
So they gathered together to read Sirius's letter. The letter was simple, containing only one sentence: "Thursday night at 10:30, usual place."
"Sirius spoke to me through the fire during the Triwizard Tournament last year," Harry said firmly. "I think the 'old place' refers to this place."
At 10:30, Sirius's head indeed appeared in the fireplace flames.
“Sirius, this is too risky,” Hermione said worriedly. “I mean, Dumbledore doesn’t want you to—”
“Hermione, you’re just like Molly when you say that. It’s true, Dumbledore doesn’t want me like this, nor does he want me like that,” Sirius declared confidently. “But Harry needs me—doesn’t he, Harry?”
A female voice came from Sirius's side: "Black, stop talking nonsense and hurry up."
“I told you not to call me Black!” Sirius said impatiently.
Hermione immediately recognized who it was and exclaimed, "Miss Brown!"
“It’s me, Hermione,” Winnie replied briskly to Hermione, then turned coldly to Sirius. “Black, show some respect if you can remember this is Prim and my room. You better pray that not a single student walks by and sees your dog face while you’re dawdling.”
"Harry, have you been in a bad mood lately?" Sirius didn't want to talk to Winnie anymore. "Is your scar hurting again?"
“Yes, my scar hurts more than before, and it hurts more often than before. Dumbledore said it’s because Voldemort has strong emotional fluctuations, which makes him feel a lot of pain.” Harry tried to ignore the frightened expressions on Hermione and Ron’s faces and said calmly, “The Dreamcatcher has been spinning a lot in the last few months, and it has lost several feathers and some branches have split.”
“Dreams are the unconscious ocean of a wizard’s soul,” Winnie suddenly said.
Sirius asked in surprise, "What did you say?"
Winnie said calmly, "According to the study of soul magic, some wizards believe that all living souls drift on an ocean, which is the dream world. This means that all dreams are actually connected."
"But the distance between wizards is so vast that only souls connected by fate and bloodline can have a faint connection with each other. More emphasis is placed on the spirituality of divination talent."
Harry said, "So, fate has brought me and—"
“Yes, it’s connected to the Dark Lord’s soul,” Winnie recalled. “I don’t know much about this. Our little one does know a bit about soul magic; she once made a simple dreamcatcher. They’re like sieves, keeping out some malicious things, but not everything.”
