After hesitating for a long time, he finally spoke: "Sylvia, is there anything you want to say to me?"
“Pubi said you’ve already seen it,” Sylvia said calmly.
Dipple closed her eyes: "I don't want to see, I just want to hear what you have to say."
“You already knew, didn’t you?” Sylvia said in a low voice. “Why do you think that beast in the Siberian snowfield turned and ran away? Who do you think could start a fire on wet wood in the time it takes you to turn around? You’re so smart—tell me.”
“I thought it was a miracle,” Dipple weakly defended himself.
Sylvia said, "There are no miracles in the world, only inevitabilities based on logic. That's what you said."
Depp instinctively resisted the truth, and Sylvia instinctively resisted telling the truth.
Sylvia hinted that she hoped Deepell would discover it himself; Deepell refused to give any hints and pretended not to have noticed anything.
The two were a perfect match, reaching a strange tacit understanding to maintain a marriage of false prosperity. Until the birth of their first child, Praris, the lie was pushed to the brink of collapse.
In order to maintain harmony in the family, Sylvia chose to let Praris hide his power, and Depur naturally assumed that Praris was no different from the other children.
Deepell asked, "Will this...power be inherited by children? Every single one?"
“Not necessarily, but mostly,” Sylvia said frankly.
These words seemed to relieve Sylvia, but Dipple gradually fell silent.
Praris carried a stool over to Sylvia's side, stood on it, and looked at her mother's "equipment".
These things were only taken out by Mom when Dad wasn't home.
After confessing, Sylvia could finally continue her work openly. She was a fortune teller with a bit of talent, and fate led her to Siberia, where she met Dipple William.
Before she met Dipple, she wrote articles about fortune-telling and interpreted ancient divination texts—her knowledge of ancient runes was quite good.
After meeting Depp, she became more interested in studying love divination—but she rarely divined for herself.
Praris stood on tiptoe to look at the pattern in the crystal ball. "Dad is unhappy. He's smoking."
"Smoke" refers to smoking.
William and his wife never told her what smoking was, and Depp successfully quit smoking before marriage.
Praris can only express the concept of "smoking" in his own language.
Sylvia said with a melancholy look on her face, "Pubby, I wish your sister or brother were a Squib."
"What is a dud?" Praris asked curiously.
Sylvia said, "It's people who don't have our kind of power."
Sylvia is a witch, and witches' children can't use magic; they're just Squibs.
“Mom, I heard Dad call Uncle Anthony—” Praris suddenly said.
boom--
Dipple suddenly pushed open the door: "Pubby, you go out first, Daddy has something to say to Mommy."
Praris's fingers dug into the table as she looked at Sylvia with a hesitant expression.
“Go outside first,” Sylvia said.
Praris jumped off the stool. Clutching the stool, she ran out.
But she had only superficially obeyed her father's request to go upstairs in the past, and she wasn't much more obedient now. She squatted outside the bedroom door, eavesdropping on her parents' conversation.
"Are you kidding me!" Sylvia raised her voice. "I could never lose these crystal balls! To me, they're like your camera and telescope!"
Dipple argued, "I didn't tell you to throw them away! It's just that during your pregnancy, you should put them somewhere else, like Sofia's storage room."
After Sofia grew up in Depple, she moved back to the place where she had lived as a child.
“What do you mean?” Sylvia frowned. “I understand. You think they gave Poppy magic, so you want to… Aren’t you the one who believes in science the most? It’s genetics—yes, genetic inheritance, not external influences!”
“The end of science is theology,” Deepell said matter-of-factly. “Do you know how many scientists study alchemy in their later years? Don’t you wish Bailey didn’t have that so-called magic?”
“What Pele! Did I promise to name the child Pele?” Despite Sylvia’s previous statement that she hoped the child would be a Squib, she still said, “There’s nothing wrong with magic! Magic is just a tool.”
“But it’s dangerous! It makes our children different from others!” Dipple blurted out. “Puby is already like this, there’s no way to change it, but Bailey can still be saved!”
bang bang bang-
The lights and glass in the second-floor corridor all shattered one by one.
Sylvia hurriedly opened the door. Seeing the scene before her, she instantly realized that Praris's magic had gone out of control!
She quickly ran back to her room, pulled her wand from a drawer, and waved it to stop Praris from continuing to lose control.
“Pubi!” Sylvia hugged Praris tightly. “Mommy’s here! Mommy’s here!”
How strange! How strange are human emotions! How quickly people change!
Sylvia suppressed Praris, preventing her from using magic in front of Depur. But when Praris lost control, Sylvia, despite being pregnant, was the first to rush to her daughter's aid.
Before an argument, Depp would tell Praris to go upstairs and not listen, but now she can say things like "Pubby is already like this," and she feels that her daughter is beyond saving.
Dipple stood in the doorway and saw broken light bulbs and windowpanes all over the hallway. Sylvia was holding Praris, who was crying helplessly.
Prarese was bewildered for the second time. Her loving father said coldly, "Hill, you see, this is necessary."
Sylvia's crystal ball, teacup, magic mirror, astrolabe, and other items were all locked in a box. It was to be sent to Depur's mother, Sophia's, house.
In front of Depp, Sylvia raised her wand and locked the box: "I don't want them to escape and hurt people."
Dipple frowned, seemingly uncomfortable with the word "run away".
The only one who seemed to be feeling better about the loss of the divination tools was Deeper herself.
Ever since her first loss of control, Praris has always had a hard time controlling her magic, and she often accidentally breaks this or that.
Praris was afraid of being discovered by her father and was eager to cover up her mistakes. The more anxious she became, the less control she had over her magic, and she had already lost control four times in two weeks.
Sylvia is pregnant and exhausted from caring for her daughter who appears to be ill, so her mental state is not optimistic.
Without her divination tools, Sylvia, who had finally managed to coax Praris to sleep, could only look at the astronomical telescope and observe the stars.
“Pisces,” Sylvia muttered to herself, “pessimism and escapism.”
“Hill,” Deepell’s voice sounded behind her, “what do you think about us letting Puby stay away for a while?”
"Are you kidding me!" Sylvia rejected the suggestion without even thinking. "Pubi's magic often goes out of control. If she leaves my side, who can stabilize her condition?"
Depp said softly, “But your belly is starting to grow. What if Poppy stays at home? Antonio will take good care of Poppy, you remember? He's a doctor too.”
“Do you really think I would abandon one child for another?” Sylvia still refused Deepell’s request. “A Muggle doctor doesn’t know magic, how can he take care of Puby?”
Antonio is the doctor on Depp's team; he's reliable, but he's still a Muggle.
“It’s only for a while. Once you give birth, Pubi will be back…” Dipple was also very determined, going back and forth with Sylvia, trying to get Praris to leave home temporarily.
“Puby wasn’t happy to see me, was she?” Deepall sighed. “She heard everything I said, didn’t she?”
Remembering Praris's hurt feelings because of Depp's slip of the tongue, Sylvia finally relented: "Here's what we'll do—send it to London. My best friend from my school days, Winnie Brown. She lives at 12 Black Rose Lane, London. I'll write her a letter, and you can take it with you to London."
"Is she a magician too?" Dipple asked.
“It’s a witch,” Sylvia replied. “Let me check the calendar—it’s almost Christmas, maybe we should go after the holiday.”
“How about before Christmas?” Depp said cheerfully. “We can also bring that witch a Christmas present while we’re at it, shall we?”
“Her name is Winnie, she’s my friend, not that witch.” Sylvia couldn’t accept Depp calling Winnie that.
The Dark Lord has been dead for almost four years; Winnie should have realized she wasn't on the right path. But Sylvia never imagined that the calm and rational woman she once was would become like this…
Sylvia wrote a long letter; she had so much to say to Winnie, but she never knew how to put it. Sylvia thought that perhaps they could start dating again.
Holding the envelope in her left hand and her wand in her right, she walked toward Praris and softly called, "Poppy? Poppy?"
Praris frowned uneasily in her sleep, clutching her blanket tightly.
Young wizards who suppress their emotions and lack guidance are highly likely to be targeted by the Obscurus.
Before confessing to Depur, Sylvia would play little tricks with Praris when Depur was out. After confessing to Depur, Sylvia no longer required Praris to refrain from using magic.
It's easy to guess that Praris lost control because she overheard her conversation with Depp.
Forgetting is a relief; forgetting these things might allow her to stop losing control and grow up like an ordinary little wizard.
She raised her wand, closed her eyes, pondered for a long time, and finally uttered, "Forget everything."
My child, Praris, it was Mommy's fault.
Forget about these things, your dad and mom both love you.
But... but we were all too immature, we were all wrong, we don't deserve to be called parents.
Dipple placed the sleeping Praris in the back seat of the car, while Sylvia packed Praris's blanket and teddy bear into the trunk.
“Winnie has a bit of a temper,” Sylvia said worriedly. “Just tell her you need her help, she’ll agree. Or maybe I should go with you—”
“You’re pregnant,” Deepell said. “If I were to take you with me, Margaret would definitely complain to Sophia.”
“I’m not at the point where I can’t walk anymore,” Sylvia said.
Dipple touched Sylvia's cheek: "But I'm worried."
Sylvia pursed her lips, took two steps back, and waved at him: "Then you must be careful."
Chapter 113 The Crimes of Deeper
Everything was like a nightmare for Deepple Joseph William.
Dipple's mother, Sophia, was a devout believer, but Dipple was not. He believed more in science and thought that things like gods and ghosts were just fantasies, a mental recreation of reality.
Sofia's faith is the origin of his middle name "Joseph".
Of course, his mother's name also has the same origin; Sophia means divine wisdom.
After graduating from the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of St Andrews, Deple became fascinated with astrophotography and decided to make it his lifelong career.
Dipple felt it was fate, after all, his name was "Dipple," the Big Dipper.
While filming alone on the ice fields near the Arctic Ocean in Siberia, Dipour encountered the greatest danger of his life—an unknown, strange beast chased him all the way, stalking him like a rat.
It was here that he met his future wife, Sylvia Prince.
A civil war has broken out in Miss Prince's hometown, and some of her friends are on one side, while others are on the other. Miss Prince cannot choose.
