“Potion research is always like that; sometimes a flash of inspiration is needed,” Slughorn said. “But such opportunities are rare. Sometimes we need to relax and adjust our mindset!”
After saying that, Slughorn looked at the other students present: "Perhaps none of you know this, but Praris is the inventor of many new types of drugs!"
Slughorn greatly praised Prares's achievements, making it seem to anyone who didn't know better that she was about to become the next Damocles and Snape.
Slughorn asked, "Especially the cheap wolfsbane medicine, Praris, how did you come up with the idea of improving the wolfsbane medicine?"
Hermione was somewhat surprised; it turned out that the cheap wolfsbane potion was Prarese's creation!
The inexpensive wolfsbane potion provides a great opportunity for werewolves to integrate into wizarding society, making it affordable even for werewolves with limited financial means.
Zabini looked at Praris with cold disdain. He never expected Praris to have such kindness, spending his time sympathizing with such lowly creatures as werewolves.
Praris said nonchalantly, "Back then, I was learning to replicate the Wolfsbane Potion. It was an unexpected byproduct of the replication process. I must say, it actually earned me quite a bit of pocket money."
Chapter 151 Disappointment and Fighting Fire with Fire
“Hahaha, yes!” Slughorn patted Praris on the shoulder and said cheerfully, “Potions always bring us some extra benefits, don’t they? Come and try this foie gras!”
The duck liver pâté served at the Slughorn dinner was savory and creamy, with a delicious texture.
Several students present spread a thick layer of smear on their bread.
In Slughorn's eyes, Praris's potion-making skills were not as good as Harry Potter's, but she was still a rare genius. Moreover, this girl's strength lay in her creativity; she could develop new potions, and her potential was extremely high.
However, the benefits Prares could bring were still too far in the future, while McLagan's network of connections was very clear.
After offering a brief compliment to Prarese, Slughorn began trying to curry favor with McLagen.
Praris didn't care about that. She was only there to give Slughorn face. After all, Slughorn was the former headmaster of Slytherin, and constantly refusing dinner invitations seemed disrespectful to him.
"Next time we get together—" Slughorn announced happily after the meal, "I'll be inviting Gwenos Jones to our party, and I hope you can all come!"
"Who is that?" Praris asked in a low voice to the only person present he could ask.
Zabini sneered: "Captain of the Hollyhead Harpy team. They're full of witches—this will show you that this team isn't very strong."
Praris's dislike for Zabini is indeed well-founded.
"Oh, I see," she said coldly. "By that logic, you should be far superior to me. Why didn't anyone tell me about this? Or is it that your reason for sitting here isn't your mother, but your own abilities—is that it?"
Zabini's skin was so dark that Praris couldn't see his dark expression, but it was certainly unpleasant.
He lowered his voice and said, "You think you're so great? Then how come you still lost to Potter after more than two years of tutoring from Professor Snape?"
“I will beat him, sooner or later,” Praris said, chin held high. “But you have no chance of surpassing me, Blaise.”
Completely unaware of what had happened, Slughorn teased them, saying, "Zabini, Prince, what are you two talking about alone?"
Praris glanced at Zabini, who was turning his head away unhappily, and said calmly, "We were talking about the Hollyhead Harpy team, and Zabini introduced them to me."
How much they argue internally is irrelevant—just like Zabini has often criticized Draco. But it's a different story when there are other students from other houses present.
Zabini said reluctantly, "Yes, Prince doesn't understand these things."
This gave Slughorn an opportunity.
While introducing Prarese to the Welsh Quidditch team, he boasted extensively about his relationship with Gwenos Jones. He also claimed that Gwenos Jones always provided him with free Quidditch tickets whenever he needed them.
When the party ended, Zabini snorted and walked away quickly without looking back.
Praris went into the nearby washroom, filled a handful with water, and splashed it on his face.
She's human too, not made of iron, and she gets tired too.
Researching potions doesn't require much physical exertion; what truly tires her is her mind and spirit.
To break Dumbledore's curse and to defeat Harry, she devoted all her time to improving her potions.
The moment she straightened up, a handkerchief was extended from behind her.
“Thank you,” Praris said calmly, “but there’s no need for us to meet.”
Two-way mirrors are not bought to be decorations.
Hermione, standing behind Prareas, had a flicker in her eyes, as if she wanted to say something.
“I think it’s necessary,” Hermione said hesitantly. “Plares, I want to tell you…”
“Are you here to comfort me?” Praris frowned. “That’s even less necessary.”
"No!" Hermione suddenly raised her voice, then seemed startled by her own agitation and lowered it again. "This isn't consolation! In my eyes, your potions are the best!"
Praris laughed: "How can this not be considered consolation?"
Should we tell Praris the truth?
This problem has been bothering Hermione for a long time.
Harry and Praris are both her friends.
This problem is like Harry and Ron arguing. Even though she knows who is right and who is wrong, it's not good for her to take sides. They are both her flesh and blood.
Hermione One rebuked Hermione: "Are you just going to stand by and watch Prader torture himself?"
Hermione 2 also accused Hermione: "Harry trusted you so much, he even told you the prophecy!"
Hermione #1: "Doesn't Prader believe you?! Besides, this isn't about believing or not believing! Harry made a mistake!"
Hermione 2: "What did he do wrong? He said he was just studying the notes in the book!"
Hermione One: "He didn't learn anything; he just followed orders without thinking for himself!"
"And that book is probably not a good thing! Praris is very knowledgeable; if you tell her, she might be able to tell you what's wrong with it!"
Hermione 2: "Harry said that book might belong to his father."
Hermione One: "You yourself said that his father isn't mixed-race!"
……
Hermione and Hermione argued in Hermione's head for a long time.
Finally, Hermione 2 mocked Hermione 1: "You say Harry cheated, but didn't you help Ron in the Gryffindor Quidditch team selections?"
"What qualifications do you have, and what attitude do you have to be this good person!"
Hermione defeated Hermione, leaving Hermione almost humiliated in front of Prairie.
Hermione blushed, feeling deeply guilty: "This isn't just comforting! I genuinely believe you'll do even better."
“You can see shame and unease in my eyes.” Prarese took the handkerchief and gently wiped the water droplets from her face. “Hermione, is there anything else you want to say to me?”
"I……"
Prareas's question seemed to give Hermione an inexplicable courage and a kind of determination in an instant, prompting her to open her mouth and say something.
Just then, a continuous stream of voices came from outside the washroom.
Millison said thankfully, "Thank goodness Honeydukes is still open! Otherwise, what's the point of going to Hogsmeade?"
“Plares—what are you doing here?” Daphne raised an eyebrow. “Is your dinner party over? Was it interesting?”
Prarese folded Hermione's handkerchief and put it in his pocket. "It's pointless, but maybe McLagan doesn't think so. When are you going to Hogsmeade?"
“Mid-October,” Milison asked as he walked toward an empty toilet stall. “What would you like to eat?”
Daphne said with a look of disgust, "Please, don't discuss this kind of thing in the bathroom."
Shortly after, Milison emerged from the cubicle, and the three of them walked toward the Slytherin common room, talking as they went.
Before leaving the restroom, Praris glanced back at the closed cubicle.
Even though Hermione didn't say what she wanted to say, her reaction still revealed most of what she was trying to say—Harry's sudden genius was most likely problematic.
At the last moment, Hermione almost blurted it out, but was interrupted by Millison and the others talking.
Praris felt regretful.
But not for herself, but for Harry.
If Harry got his chance to shine in Potions class through external forces, then Praris thinks he's still too naive.
Right now, he can defeat Praris with the help of external forces. But what about the future? Will he also need to rely on external forces when facing Voldemort?
Regardless of whether Harry Potter surpassed her in potions through external forces, Prareas decided to continue her dedicated research into potions and defeat him fair and square.
She wanted to prove to everyone the influence of Professor Snape's teachings on her, and to demonstrate her talent and hard work.
These are things that no external force can overcome.
Time flew by, and in the following weeks, she practically immersed herself in the crucible—which wouldn't have been impossible if she had a crucible that big.
After their conversation in the bathroom, Hermione also tried to tell Praris the truth, but Praris refused.
“This must be very difficult for you,” Prarese said to Hermione across the mirror. “I don’t want you to continue to worry about this.”
Prarese said gently, "Hermione, thank you. Your hesitation has given me the answer. I will defeat Harry. I will show him that external things cannot bring true success."
In a daze, Hermione actually felt that she saw Dumbledore-like tolerance and strength in Prares.
Strength is not just about physical power, but also about character.
“Plass,” Hermione said sincerely, “the first person I admired most after coming to Hogwarts was Dumbledore. I think the second might be you.”
Perhaps Hermione's praise was too direct and sincere, and Praris felt a little embarrassed.
Praris shook her head: "Hermione, I'm not as good as you think. Draco has done a lot of bad things, but I've never done anything like what you've done."
Hermione and Harry have a bond that transcends life and death.
Even with Hermione's sense of justice, she still struggles with the decision of whether or not to tell Prareas.
In Prareas's eyes, Hermione was the venerable goddess of justice.
The two witches praised each other so much that they both became embarrassed by the compliments.
Setting down the two-way mirror, Prareus poured the potion from the cauldron into a potion bottle and headed toward Snape's office on the same floor.
Slughorn was right; she did indeed have a unique talent for innovation—a talent acknowledged by Professor Snape, who sometimes even found Prares's ideas bizarre.
Therefore, in treating Dumbledore, Prareus created increasingly bizarre potions, to the point of persecuting the old man.
Lately, Dumbledore has been frequently absent from school. This led Prareas to wonder if his potions had scared him away.
Snape looked at her medicine with amusement: "Miss, your way of breaking the curse is to get rid of the cursed person?"
