Professor Snape seems to be that kind of person. He looks fierce on the surface, but he usually won't refuse to answer a normal question, but he's too lazy to explain too deeply.
On his first night away from the monastery, Praris had trouble sleeping.
The room on the second floor of the Leaky Cauldron wasn't new, but it was clean, with a thick mattress and soft blankets—she wasn't used to this feeling.
Praris sat up, opened his suitcase, picked up each item, and touched it over and over, like a kitten seeing a ball of yarn for the first time.
She closed the box, then leaned back onto the windowsill and peered out. At this hour, people should be asleep in the monastery, but the Leaky Cauldron was still bustling with activity. She kept her eyes open, scrutinizing each passerby, trying to understand their past.
On her first night in the magical world, she lay there, watching, until she drifted off to sleep.
Chapter 212 Registration
"I truly regret ever knowing you!" Stella said through gritted teeth. "If I ever die, remember to tell Aurora to collect my corpse!"
Stella, holding Praris's hand, greeted the wizards around her with a smile.
“You won’t,” Praris said with a smile. “We will all survive.”
This is a long story, and the Ministry of Magic has a new policy. Before this, young British wizards could either study at home or attend magic schools abroad.
But now, all these young wizards must enroll in Hogwarts and prove they are not Muggle-born before the start of the semester, or they will be "interviewed" by the Muggle Registration Committee.
Stella had never doubted Praris's lineage. But now, this guy was telling Stella with such confidence—"I'm an orphan!"
Prim Purnell's existence merely resolved Praris's Muggle residency issue, allowing her to be completely removed from the convent without being investigated by the Muggle police.
However, in the magical world, there was no strict household registration system before, so the wizards of the Ministry of Magic did not know that Praris was Sylvia's daughter, nor did they know that Praris's registered relative was a Ponell.
“How could you be an orphan!” Stella’s eyes widened. “Then who can prove you’re not Muggle-born—Merlin, how could young Malfoy be dating someone of unknown origin?”
"Why not?" Praris shrugged. "Do you have to investigate someone's entire family history before you can date?"
"Isn't this what purebloods are like?!" Stella paced back and forth anxiously. "We're doomed! You either have to drop out of school and hide, or you'll have to find someone to prove your identity!"
“Me! Let me do it!” Marcus exclaimed, patting his chest. “Be my sister! Praris Flint—how lovely!”
Praris didn't care at all: "I'd be your daughter if you wanted to!"
“But I can’t give birth to one that big!” Marcus said quickly, not realizing it was a joke.
Stella didn't criticize Praris in the slightest; instead, she gave Marcus a flick on the forehead: "Nice to hear, my foot! Do you think everyone in Slytherin has amnesia? You say she's Flint, so she is Flint!"
House Flint is one of the "Twenty-Eight Pure-Blood Houses" and a long-established pure-blood family.
Marcus is certainly a supporter of pure bloodlines, but people are hypocritical.
If he had only just met Praris, he certainly wouldn't have become close to the unidentified orphan witch.
But Marcus had known Prareas for so long. Prareas tutored him, helped him graduate, and assisted him in winning championships... Sometimes when Farley berated him, Prareas would even step in to break up the fight.
One of the reasons Marcus was accepted by the Jamaica team during his interview was that he had led the Slytherin team to the House Cup, and that team had Harry Potter among their opponents—a victory aided by Prader.
He subconsciously ignored whether Praris, an orphan, was Muggle-born, half-blood, or pure-blood; he simply hoped that his good friend wouldn't be arrested.
"And what about your cousin?" Marcus asked without thinking. "A distant cousin!"
"Close relatives! Close relatives!" Stella said irritably. "Did you get your brain spiked by those juggling balls and quweighers?"
“I’m not smart to begin with!” Marcus said, scratching his head. “You two are smart, so what do you suggest we do?”
Without a second thought, Praris immediately looked at Stella along with Marcus. Stella, with her legislative background, was an expert at exploiting legal loopholes.
Stella's gaze was fixed on the air, her eyes blinking rapidly. The intricate web of family relationships must have been driving her crazy.
“Big guy—” Stella said hesitantly, “Don’t you have an aunt named Ivy, Ella, or Alice? I’ve never heard anything about what happened to her after that…”
“Ella Rozier,” Marcus said, scratching his head. “Aunt Ella doesn’t like going out or seeing people. She has a house in the Irish countryside, and there’s a basement in the house. Auntie reads in the basement every day. My mother and uncle don’t like her; they think she’s aloof.”
"Seven or eight years ago, Aunt Ella got so engrossed in an adventure novel that she insisted on picking and eating mushrooms from the forest like the wizards in the book—" Marcus said with disdain, "and ended up poisoning herself to death... We only found out about it because a house-elf told my mother."
"Fine!" Stella slammed her hand on the table and stood up. "Where's that house-elf?!"
“My uncle didn’t want it, so he gave it to my mom.” Marcus missed the point. “My mom didn’t want it either; she thought cookies were too embarrassing to present.”
"Later, I was accepted into the Jamaican team. She was worried that I wouldn't be able to take care of myself while competing alone, so she gave me the cookies."
Stella grabbed the wine from the table and downed it in one gulp, then excitedly pointed at Marcus and said, "You, lend the cookies to Pray."
Stella then pointed at Praris: "You are now Marcus's Aunt Ella's illegitimate daughter."
Marcus looked at Praris with a puzzled expression, while Praris looked at Stella in surprise—wasn't her mother a bit too many?
Praris already has a biological mother, Sylvia, and a legally recognized Muggle adoptive mother, Ms. Prie. Now she will have an additional fake mother, Ella Rozier, registered under wizard Muggle law.
"Isn't she still my cousin?" Marcus finally understood and clapped his hands happily. "See, after all this time, she still has to listen to me... Ah!"
Marcus got pinched by Stella again: "You big idiot, you talk too much!"
Marcus was no good at dealing with officials. Back in school, he always let Farley handle such situations, and even in Quidditch, the captain was responsible for speaking. A few times he was forced to speak, which successfully exposed Marcus's low intelligence and emotional intelligence, leading to him being silenced by the captain ever since.
So the matter was handed over to Stella, who took Praris and Cookie to register.
Cookie seemed as shy as Marcus's socially awkward aunt, clinging tightly to Praris's trouser leg. Praris's left arm was held by Stella, and his right leg was held by Cookie, the three of them forming a conjoined shape.
“I’m having some trouble moving around,” Praris said softly. “I think I can walk on my own.”
Stella smiled and nodded to another Ministry of Magic employee, saying in a friendly tone, "We need to let these guys know we're on good terms, so they won't give you a hard time later."
The two of them and Cookie flushed themselves into the Ministry of Magic through a strange toilet. Stella came out still gagging, saying with disgust, "Merlin's stinky socks, the Ministry's taste is getting worse and worse!"
“I agree!” said a passing wizard, fanning himself. “Good morning, Chief Stewart. This is—”
“A Slytherin student!” Stella immediately launched into small talk, patting Praris on the shoulder. “Flint’s little cousin—I remember you used to like the Jamaica team?”
"Troll Flint?" The wizard's eyes lit up. "To be honest, the Jamaican team is long gone! If it weren't for our Flint, they could have gone home!"
Stella seemed unhurried and even promised to get a set of Marcus's autographed merchandise for the wizard named "Albert".
After saying goodbye to Albert, Stella led her around, taking elevators and passing office doors. Prarese tried to appear calm and avoid probing her surroundings.
Finally, they came to a brand-new mahogany door with two plaques hanging on it: "Dolores Umbridge - Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Magic" and "Head of the Muggle-Born Registration Committee".
Stella patted Praris's hand and whispered, "Proceed according to plan!"
After saying that, Stella knocked on the office door, her tone instantly becoming incredibly gentle: "Minister Umbridge—it's me, Stella!"
"Oh dear!" The wooden door opened with a sway of Umbridge's sweet voice. "Stella—my dear friend, this is…"
“It’s Praris Prince!” Stella laughed and nudged Praris forward. “Do you remember her? Our Slytherin prefect, a top student.”
“Professor Umbridge!” Prarese exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. “It’s been a long time!”
"What are you saying!" Stella lightly patted Praris. "It's Minister Umbridge!"
In the workplace, if the head of the department is not present, it is best to omit the word "deputy" when referring to the deputy head.
Prarese wasn't unaware of this, but she said it on purpose to maintain her persona in front of Umbridge and to make herself seem somewhat like Marcus.
Praris glanced casually at the pendant box around Umbridge's neck and said with an annoyed look, "I'm so sorry—Minister Umbridge!"
Umbridge let out a sweet laugh: "Stella, don't be so harsh. Miss Prince, right? You weren't very bright back when I was at Hogwarts, but it's not your fault!"
Praris clung to Stella's arm, lowered his head shyly, but actually rolled his eyes.
“Stella…Director.” Umbridge’s probing gaze shifted between the two of them. “So, what brings this girl here?”
Stella stamped her foot in annoyance: "That's a long story! Marcus Flint—you remember him, right?"
“Of course.” Umbridge covered his mouth and laughed. “If you ask me, little Flint should come to our English Quidditch team and bring glory to our pure-blood wizards.”
"If only he had heard your advice sooner!" Stella said helplessly. "But Marcus is still too young. He always thought about traveling abroad more while playing for a foreign team. Now look what's happened! It won't be easy for him to come back!"
“Young people are always like that,” Umbridge said, touching the locket on her chest with a sweet smile. “They don’t know their own worth.”
Stella's face was full of approval: "I was just saying! Next time there's a chance, let him talk to the Sports Cooperation Department—but it's probably not possible today, something urgent has come up!"
After saying that, she pushed Praris forward: "You can't tell, can you? Praris is Flint's cousin!"
Umbridge looked surprised and asked hesitantly, "Flint's...cousin?"
The size difference is too great. Marcus is like a wall when he stands there, and Praris is an inch shorter than Stella here.
“I was surprised too!” Stella lied through her teeth. “If I hadn’t met Marcus’s Aunt Ella when I was little, I wouldn’t have recognized her—you’re pureblood too, you must know Ella, right?”
Umbridge was a little taken aback, but nodded instinctively: "Ella, who doesn't know her?"
—Umbridge didn't know, but she couldn't admit it. Merlin's distant aunts and uncles, who exactly is Ella?
“I told Marcus you knew, there was no need to worry!” After saying that, Stella cautiously looked back to make sure the door was locked before whispering, “Ella Rozier, who would have thought that someone who hates going out like that would have a daughter!”
Umbridge didn't actually know Ella Rozier, but the last name told her everything. Roziers despised Muggles and Muggle-born wizards and were very fond of dark magic.
Stella sighed: "Aunt Ella passed away eight years ago, leaving behind only this house-elf—Cookie!"
Cookie remained silent, shrinking her entire body behind Praris.
Praris quickly shouted, "Cookies!"
Cookie finally peeked out timidly and murmured, "Cookie is Miss Ella and Miss Praris's little fairy!"
These were the words Marcus had taught them beforehand. Cookie only knew this one sentence, and no matter what Umbridge asked, she would say the same thing—it's unclear whether Cookie was socially awkward or had gotten stupid from eating too many mushrooms.
Praris immediately lowered her head and began to sob softly.
“Look at you!” Stella shook her head with pity. “Plares has become a motherless child. Now that the new regulations are in place, Plares has to follow the law and register.”
“But Marcus’s mother doesn’t like Ella, and he can’t bring his cousin to the Ministry of Magic. You know how troublesome those reporters are!”
Umbridge finally understood. These purebloods, through their reckless actions, produced a bastard daughter and then got themselves killed. Now, the bastard daughter has a hard time proving her identity.
Umbridge bent her index finger and gently touched her face, feigning pity: "Poor child! But this—is not so easy to handle!"
“Stella! Your aunt has been so helpful to me. How could I not help you? But you know, it wasn't easy for me to be in this position,” Umbridge pouted and complained. “Being the Deputy Minister of Magic isn't easy!”
Stella pulled a long box from her uniform sleeve, grasped Umbridge's hand, and slowly handed it to him: "Minister, we're all purebloods, there's no question of helping or not helping. We all know Miss Rosier, what's the fuss about? It's just a favor!"
Umbridge smiled, turned around, pulled a piece of paper from the drawer, and said to Praris with a sigh, "Poor kid, to have to go through something like this at such a young age—fill it out!"
Stella's Help (No. 213)
Umbridge didn't get to her current position solely through flattery and manipulation. Anyone who thinks she'll let Prarese fill out forms carelessly based on connections and bribes is asking for trouble and will drag down her allies!
Prarese filled out the family questionnaire with silky smoothness—but aside from her name, there wasn't much real information.
