“Praris Prince”.
No sooner had she finished speaking than a piercing scream filled the air.
Praris turned around and saw a group of semi-transparent things emerging from the wall. These things had human-like upper bodies, but their lower bodies gradually disappeared. They floated from one side of the wall to the other, muttering some incomprehensible words.
Pralis observed them closely, not wanting to miss this excellent field study. She had seen them before in "Hogwarts: A History of the School," where they were described as ghosts of the school.
Burst tugged at her: "What are you still looking at? It's time for sorting."
Bosder had a really strong grip; Prarese was almost pulled down.
The freshmen were required to stand in a single file; Prarese was in front of Bosde and behind her were two girls of Indian descent.
Following the group forward, they left the small room, passed through the foyer they had just gone through, and finally entered behind a huge double door.
What followed was just as described in *Hogwarts: A History*: First, she saw countless candles on brass handles floating in the air. Then came the seats on a platform a few feet above the ground at the far end of the Great Hall, where the teachers were seated—Plass saw the only one she recognized, Professor Snape. Next were the huge portraits above the seats and the enormous windows. Finally, there were the four long tables closest to her.
No matter how much it's described in books, nothing compares to the shock of seeing it for yourself. Even though Praris knew she would be living here from now on, she couldn't suppress her curiosity and looked around.
Professor McGonagall led the students between the professor's seat and the students' long table, where they faced the students and had their backs to the professor.
Professor McGonagall first placed a stool in front of them, and then on the stool placed a topped wizard's hat. The hat was not the usual black, but brown, and patched, looking quite worn.
Now it's time to prepare for the Sorting. Since Professor McGonagall put her hat here, it must be related to the Sorting. Perhaps this is a test for the Sorting or "equipment" used by the Sorting?
Surprisingly, the hat came to life; the folds on top looked like eyes, while the folds below made sounds like a mouth, singing an unpleasant and bizarre song.
It is said to be the Sorting Hat, used to decide where students should go. Gryffindors are brave and chivalrous, Hufflepuffs are honest and resilient, Ravenclaws are intelligent and learned, and Slytherin have sincere friends, but those cunning and treacherous will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
Prareas blinked, suspecting the hat originally belonged to Gryffindor and that it made no attempt to conceal its prejudice against Slytherin.
Well, given its magical properties, Praris boldly speculates that it belongs to Godric Gryffindor, the founder of Gryffindor.
Professor McGonagall then began calling roll, calling people up to the sorting house one by one.
“Prince, do you think there might be people who won’t get into any house? Maybe some people can’t meet the requirements in the Sorting Song. I mean, there are always some useless people, right?” Millison nudged her.
As soon as Praris turned her gaze over, she saw a familiar-looking person suddenly staring at them.
Is it the boy I saw before getting on the bus?
But when Praris met his gaze, he quickly looked away.
“No,” Praris said calmly. “Hagrid, who brought us here, is already seated in the VIP section and has even started chatting. It seems he’s finished his work for the evening.”
As soon as Prareas finished speaking, the boy immediately turned to look at Hagrid. Upon seeing Hagrid, he visibly relaxed.
Praris found it a bit funny, but actually, that wasn't the reason at all.
The real reason she realized that the Sorting Ceremony wouldn't affect her ability to attend Hogwarts was because of Professor Snape. After all, he had already bought school supplies for Prader, an orphan, and paid for her room and board and provided her with a stipend for a period of time.
Is Hogwarts some kind of philanthropist who's easy to fool?
Praris and the others were getting sleepy. Milison, who was quite talkative at first, was chattering away beside her, but since her last name started with "B", she was soon called to the sorting house.
Praris stood there alone, bored, and began to guess where everyone would be assigned.
"Potter. Harry!"
The restaurant suddenly became lively, with everyone looking up and craning their necks, as if they were expecting something.
Chapter 5 Slytherin
Is this some kind of celebrity from the magical world?
Praris suddenly remembered that she seemed to have heard of this person at the Leaky Cauldron.
That morning, she experimented with "Alohomora" (the unlocking spell) and "Knox" (the extinguishing spell) in succession—after all, some spells require a target to be cast, such as "Petrify All".
She's not the type to just learn whatever she sees, which makes learning a spell a lot of "burdens."
For example, before "Open the door to Arahomon," people used "Open the door to Arahomon." This spell was very simple and direct; it was just about making a hole in the keyhole.
Praris only tested the spell on the door of the Leaky Cauldron bar room after learning "Restore to Normal".
After that, she learned the Anti-Arameanor Spell, a spell specifically designed to prevent doors from being opened by wizard thieves. Incidentally, she also learned about the history of the Lockpicking Spell, discovering that it originated with African wizards.
Exhausted from learning two spells in one go, she desperately needed something to perk her up. So, for the first time, she didn't show up at the Leaky Cauldron bar during mealtime.
At that time, wizards were talking about a guy named Harry Potter who supposedly had a lightning bolt scar and was a miracle for defeating the powerful wizard Mystic as an infant.
Praris thought to herself, "Wow!" She walked through the crowd and said to Tom, "One cup of Ceylon tea, lots of tea leaves, little milk, and little sugar."
"Then why are you drinking Ceylon tea? You can just drink black tea." Tom's British spirit burned brightly, and he even forgot that he had been scared by this kid just a few days ago. "Besides, this is a bar, where would I get tea?"
"That red jar on the left under the counter, could it be because this tea was given to us by Madame Padif? That makes sense," Praris nodded knowingly.
Tom, in a fit of desperation, squatted down to rummage through the tea canister: "I've wasted my breath talking to you today, too little milk and too little sugar, right!"
I have no idea when this child noticed the tea that Mrs. Pavli gave him; he himself was reluctant to drink it.
Praris nodded with a smile: "That's right. Why are they all talking about Harry Potter?"
In fact, she didn't even know who Harry Potter was, but that didn't matter. Prarese spoke as if she knew Harry Potter inside and out.
“It’s because Harry Potter showed up this morning. He should be enrolling this year, and you weren’t there,” Old Tom said. “You’re not Ceylon tea at all.”
“Thank you!” Praris said casually. “It’s really hard to understand how a baby could defeat the mysterious man? And everyone believes he did it. Isn’t there any other possibility?”
“Who told the prophecy to say that?” Old Tom shook his head. “After all, the prophecy had already foretold his existence, and his parents died in that accident, leaving only him as the survivor. Nobody can think of any other possibilities.”
Praris made further inquiries and gained a general understanding of the Harry Potter incident.
The memory seemed to have lasted a long time, but it only flashed through Praris's mind for a second.
Praris was a little surprised to see that the person who stood up was the same boy who had been eavesdropping and was afraid of not being able to enroll.
Ah, indeed, Praris was a little helpless. Perhaps this guy looked too flustered and at a loss. She didn't compare him to the legendary Savior Boy at all.
The boy was sorted into Gryffindor.
That's quite normal. The last person to fight Voldemort was Dumbledore, the headmaster of Gryffindor. Perhaps it's some kind of Gryffindor curse or something that's destined.
Praris couldn't help but mentally complain about the coincidence.
"Prince, Praris!"
Praris walked to the stool, sat down, and put on his hat.
Why do you consider fighting Voldemort a curse?
Praris heard a voice in her head.
Huh? She hated this kind of magical thing, talking into other people's minds without their permission, like an uninvited intruder!
"Oh! Please! You put on the hat willingly!" the Sorting Hat said indignantly.
Fine, then let's pretend I opened the door without knowing! Isn't this a curse? If the mysterious person hadn't known of his existence, his parents wouldn't have died!
I prefer to see prophecy as a curse. Do you know about the Oedipus effect? Oedipus tried his best to escape the fate of the oracle, but ultimately, by a twist of fate, he walked into the fate of the oracle, killed his father, and married his mother.
The mysterious man knew that only one of him and the child born at the end of July could survive, so he went to kill Harry Potter, and was ultimately killed by Harry Potter. If he hadn't known about the prophecy, this might never have happened. He knew about the prophecy, and whether he wanted to or not, he couldn't ignore its existence, ultimately falling into the fate foretold.
But it is precisely because of this that he became a hero in everyone's eyes. He possessed abundant courage and was not afraid to face these challenges.
Do you really think he wasn't afraid? Who cared whether he wanted to be a hero or not? Being a hero comes with responsibility, and it comes at a price. The fact that he became a hero without any choice is truly tragic.
[Well, you possess ample wisdom, your heart is not bad, and you have deep compassion. However, you have unconventional ideas and an ambition to change your circumstances... I hope that one day you will have a different perspective.]
Slytherin!
To others, the Sorting Hat seemed to hesitate for a long time, but in reality, it was "chatting" with Prader.
This is rare; each time the decision to become a Slytherin didn't take long, especially for Draco Malfoy, who became a Slytherin the moment the hat touched him.
Therefore, Slytherin's curiosity about her was almost evident on his face.
Burst seemed quite pleased, and she said to the girl next to her, "This is Praris Prince, a funny guy, you'll like her."
After saying that, Burst introduced the girls next to him to Prareas: "Prareas, this is Pansy Parkinson, this is Daphne Greengrass, this is... Why did the Sorting Hat hesitate for so long?"
Pansy is a short girl with short black hair, a small face, and a cocky, sullen expression. Daphne is a girl with long blonde hair and a high nose, resting her chin on her hand, seemingly lost in thought.
“It was chatting with me, probably because it was bored from not talking for so long,” Praris shrugged, making up a bunch of nonsense.
Prefect Marcus didn't mind Burst's overstepping his bounds; he was happy for everyone to get along better. Only after Burst helped the girls introduce themselves did Marcus introduce himself to the new Slytherin students.
Not long after the Sorting Ceremony, Dumbledore announced that everyone could start eating.
Praris suppressed her habit of praying before meals, glanced at the table, and in the end, she only ate a little beef and some vegetables.
This is a habit brought from the monastery; most of the time, she is in a state of neither starving nor full. Even at Christmas when there is plenty of food, they will not eat too much.
The priest said that if children eat too much, they will become sleepy and unable to stay alert. This was one of the few things Praris agreed with.
The boys were talking about Harry Potter; they seemed to care a lot about it.
"I really don't know what he's so happy about. Does he think Gryffindor is a good choice? He looks like he's never seen the world!" Draco Malfoy snorted.
Praris recalled the pigs on Sandra's farm, which grunted like that too.
This man was Draco Malfoy, with a pale face like Praris, light blond hair, and an arrogant air about him, his chin held high as he spoke. The two large men beside him stared at him, seemingly subservient to him.
“It seems that Blood Man Barrow has limited his performance,” Burst whispered to Praris.
Praris knew that "Bloodborne Barrow" was the ghost of Slytherin, and it seemed to be the blood-covered ghost opposite Malfoy: "Is he afraid?"
“He’d be furious if he heard that,” Burst laughed gleefully. “He certainly wouldn’t admit it.”
After dinner and listening to the principal's rather perfunctory speech, Marcus led them to their dormitory.
Unlike other houses, Slytherin's dormitories were underground. Marcus led them down, and the surrounding environment gradually became damp and cold.
They kept walking, down the dark corridor.
Marcus stopped in front of a stone wall and turned to the wizards and witches, saying, "This door leads to the common room. You need a password to enter, and this time the password is 'honor.' The password will be updated on the notice board in the common room, so remember to check it every day before you go out."
Marcus led them to a door, indicating that it was the girls' dormitory, and then left with the remaining boys.
“I need to turn the fireplace up higher, damn it, it’s freezing in here,” said Burst, rubbing his arms.
Praris lay in bed, the flickering firelight from the fireplace casting shadows on the curtains. She thought almost nothing and drifted off to sleep as naturally as usual.
After the start of the school year, she became busy, specifically, busy running to the Hogwarts library.
Praris was heartbroken that she had spent money on a tattered book, even though Hogwarts has a library that's like a treasure trove!
