Winnie couldn't understand why Hill wouldn't listen: "What I do is different from the other Death Eaters. They call him Master, but I call him Teacher. He promised me that all I need to do is study and do research. What's wrong with that?"
Sylvia laughed in exasperation: "That's now! Do you think he'll always be kind to you? Even the devil can deceive people with grand excuses!"
They had a complete falling out. Sylvia expressed her stance by giving the cold shoulder, while Winnie was angry that Sylvia was using her feelings to blackmail her.
The mysterious person patiently persuaded her, "Winnie, if your friend truly cares about you and understands you, how could she not respect your choices?"
Winnie thought to herself, "That's right! If Hill truly valued our relationship, why would she use it as a bargaining chip to be weighed on a scale?"
The mysterious person continued, "Of course, I believe your friend will see the error of her ways, and you must also believe in the power of your friendship. She will see the steadfastness in your heart when you stand firmly on the right path."
Before graduation, Winnie was in a sullen state and refused to go near the Gryffindor Tower.
The Gryffindor Tower is so close to the Ravenclaw Tower, yet so far away.
Upon graduation, Winnie followed the mysterious man, and the real world slowly unfolded before her. She was forced to do things she didn't want to do, and she was too ashamed to face Hill again.
Although she was too ashamed to face anyone, she still missed her good friend and longed to know how she was doing.
Winnie paid a price to ask Narcissa to inquire about Sylvia Prince.
Among the followers of the Mystic, Narcissa was one of the few Slytherins she could barely accept, even though her mind was filled with thoughts of her condescending husband.
The bad news is there's no news, the good news is thankfully there's no news.
Narcissa couldn't find out any news about Sylvia; it was as if she had disappeared into the vast sea of people.
It was wartime, and life and death were uncertain. Someone might be fine today, but dead tomorrow. Sylvia wasn't on the same side, making it even harder to find out anything about her.
There was no definite answer, but Winnie could still imagine her friend living a happy life somewhere unknown.
In exchange for the full price she had paid, Narcissa promised to inform her immediately of any news about Sylvia.
It was probably four or five years after the mysterious man's downfall? Narcissa found her again and fulfilled her promise.
She glanced at Winnie and said, "You've fallen from grace and wasted your talent."
“Narcissa, this isn’t a waste. I don’t think you felt it was a waste when you chose your family,” Winnie said nonchalantly.
“That’s true, let’s get straight to the point. I can’t say whether you want to hear this news or not,” Narcissa said lightly, “but I will still keep my promise.”
Narcissa said that Silvia was brought to trial and sentenced to imprisonment in Azkaban. This news will appear in the Daily Prophet tomorrow.
"Absolutely true?"
"Without a doubt."
Narcissa said Lucius attended a trial the day before and then rushed out again that evening.
This caught Narcissa's attention, and she learned that the person on trial was Sylvia Prince, a Gryffindor graduate, because she had used the Imperius Curse on a Muggle.
The Imperius Curse is meant to control the target, but the Muggle possessed a strong will and resisted fiercely. Losing control of her emotions, Sylvia intensified her use of magic, accidentally killing the Muggle.
That Muggle was her husband, Deeple William.
Their last argument was still fresh in Winnie's mind. Now, Winnie, who had joined the Death Eaters, had luckily escaped the tragedy of killing someone with her own hands on the verge of falling, while Hill, who had opposed her joining the Death Eaters, had personally killed a Muggle.
Winnie couldn't understand why Hill would use the Imperius Curse on her husband; she wasn't like this before.
Fate can be so absurd sometimes, making life difficult for no one.
Lupin's letter brought back unpleasant memories, but she still didn't believe that Pray was Hill's child.
First, neither Narcissa nor the Daily Prophet mentioned that Hill had a child. Since Winnie's time, the Ministry of Magic has routinely arranged for the minor families of prisoners to be taken care of, and Hill mentioned that she had a very annoying cousin.
Second, apart from hair and eye color, there is almost nothing very similar between Pray and Hill.
Third, Hill is a Gryffindor, while Pryce is a Slytherin; they are completely different.
Fourth, Pray's intelligence and learning ability are far beyond what ordinary people can achieve, but Hill is a girl who is inattentive in class, loves to read Muggle books, and is happy as long as she gets an "A" on her exams.
If Hill really had a child, why wasn't that child given to her cousin to raise, and instead became an orphan inexplicably? If the child really was Hill's, why didn't Dumbledore tell her at all?
This is completely unreasonable.
Regardless, Remus Lupin's letter was a thorn in Winnie's side, reminding her from time to time of her friend who was in prison.
Winnie opened the closet and looked at the outfit that Prarese had worn on her summer vacation.
What a coincidence, the shirt in that outfit was bought for her by Hill. At that time, Hill was engrossed in studying Muggles and took her to Liberty Department Store, where she bought this shirt with a ruffled tie collar and lantern sleeves.
During a meal at an Italian restaurant over summer vacation, Praders brought up the conflict between Gryffindor and Slytherin. She casually mentioned how Potter, a senior Gryffindor student, had hung Snape upside down.
When she told Hill about it as gossip, she was furious and rushed out.
Winnie stopped her, saying, "What are you angry about? It's not Gryffindor who's at a disadvantage!"
Hill looked furious, like a panting lioness. But when Winnie asked her why, she couldn't give a reason, leaving Winnie completely confused.
Finally, Hill said through gritted teeth, "They fight, and I thought they were brave and had guts. But what are they doing now? Degrading someone's character?"
This incident left a deep impression on Winnie, and she brought it up when she looked at the shirt she had given Prarese.
If Pray really is Hill's child...
They do share some commonalities and have similarities; they both possess the same kind soul.
Winnie closed her eyes in anguish. If this were true, how could Pry face the fact that her mother, whom she had never met, was a murderer?
Prarese didn't know that Lupin had written a letter to Winnie, but she knew that Lupin must have told the professor!
Professor Lu Ping! How come you're so adept at tattling on your teacher?!
Snape's face was cold and his words were like icicles under the eaves: "Miss, the professor who has taught you for two and a half years almost didn't recognize you, because he almost thought you were a Gryffindor student."
He slowly circled Praris, attacking her from every angle: "First to stand up, huh? You think you're tough?"
"You want to conduct experiments on werewolves, is that it? Do you think your neck is made of iron? Do you think werewolves don't care who you are when they go berserk?!"
Prarese stood there like a soldier, not daring to utter a sound no matter how Snape questioned her.
Snape said in a calm voice, "Why are you silent, Miss Prarese? Aren't you usually so eloquent?"
"Professor, I'm so sorry."
Although Praris said that, she didn't really believe it. She felt she had ways to protect herself and wouldn't die so easily.
Snape probably figured it out, and in his anger he laughed, his anger burning inside him: "Fine—then tell me, what did you do wrong?"
An hour later, Praris stood before Administrator Filch for the first time as the one being punished.
Prarese earnestly explained her thoughts to the professor, whether it was her view on prophecy or her ability to demonstrate her protective capabilities.
After finishing his statement, Praris concluded, "I think my mistake was that I didn't ask for your opinion; perhaps you would have had a better way of handling it."
She thought it was a perfect answer, but Professor Snape seemed even angrier, so she was simply handed over to Professor Filch.
Filch said with an unfriendly expression, "Miss Prince, Professor Snape almost never punishes Slytherin students, but you've gone astray. You've put those bad students' ideas into your head and angered him. If you ask me, hard work and suffering are the best teachers, and you should have taken that lesson a long time ago."
It was called a punishment, but it really just involved wiping the trophies in the prize room. The only inconvenience was that magic wasn't allowed, but compared to Sister Mayne's household chores, it was still relatively easy.
There wasn't much dust on the trophies. Prarese later saw the last person to do this job in the punishment log, Ron Weasley, a year earlier.
Praris smiled wryly; it seemed she had gone from being the professor's confidante to a major threat.
The Christmas holidays have passed quickly. The only thing I can call a success since the start of the semester is probably completing the replication of the wolfsbane potion under the professor's guidance.
She couldn't have done this by herself. Just look at the final result and you'll see that she went astray several times and only turned back after being prompted by Professor Snape.
But it was still a good experience, allowing her to become familiar with the process of independent research.
The only downside is that it hurt Professor Snape a lot; he was furious and hasn't given her any new tasks since, except for teaching.
Prarese then devoted more time to her other courses, occasionally trying to concoct new drugs herself—or begging for donations from her two employer professors.
"We beat Ravenclaw!" Marcus exclaimed excitedly. "Well done, Draco! Praris, do you know what? Draco did a fantastic job!"
Draco proudly raised his head, looking smug.
"I thought they were going to have Gryffindor and Ravenclaw fight first?"
She dislikes Quidditch and has neither tried nor bothered to understand its rules.
Marcus, when in his own field, would become a bit wiser: "It's like this, you're not familiar with this, you've got it wrong. We have a round-robin tournament, each college plays one match against the other three colleges, and the one with the highest final score wins. When the scores are tied, the side that won the match wins."
“Take this as an example. Slytherin needs to defeat the other three houses, and we only need to defeat Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. Let’s say Slytherin defeats Hufflepuff and faces Gryffindor; Gryffindor defeats Ravenclaw and faces Slytherin. At this point, Slytherin will be one short of two, while Gryffindor will be two short of one.”
"In this scenario, if Slytherin defeats Hufflepuff, then Hufflepuff will lose twice and be eliminated from the finals. If Ravenclaw loses to Gryffindor, then Ravenclaw will also lose twice and be eliminated from the finals."
"If Slytherin wins against Gryffindor, then Slytherin will be three and Gryffindor will be one, resulting in a complete victory for us. If, unfortunately, Gryffindor wins, then it will be two to two, and the Gryffindor who wins this deciding match will be the winner. Pshaw, in short, only the first scenario will happen!"
Praris suddenly realized and exclaimed, "If only you had been this good when you were preparing for the OWLS exam two years ago!"
Marcus covered his face in embarrassment: "Okay, okay, it's my fault, Professor Prince!"
Draco sneered: "All that talk is just talk. It's either a decisive 3-1 victory or a narrow 2-2 draw between the two houses in the final."
Marcus looked at Praris, then at Draco, and asked, puzzled, "Why didn't you say so from the beginning? I've been explaining for so long!"
Chapter 57 Unfamiliar Ears
Draco waved his hands, a sarcastic smile playing on his lips: "Captain, as a teammate, I have to respect your desire to give a speech!"
Praris covered his mouth and chuckled, while Marcus's forehead veins throbbed with anger.
Draco looked at Praris's smiling face, blinked rapidly several times, and stiffly turned his head to the side.
"Now you know it's wrong to laugh at the captain?" Marcus snorted twice when he saw Draco's expression. "Come on, Draco. Don't think you've got the game in the bag just because of one victory. Defeat often happens when you're complacent."
For Toprare, this is Marcus's final year in school, and whether or not he can win Quidditch this year is crucial for him.
Therefore, even Marcus, a poor student, can come up with a philosophical remark.
Draco and Marcus left, and Prarese, carrying her bag, headed to Ms. Sprout's place.
Although Professor Snape was still angry, the kind-hearted Headmaster Hufflepuff secretly gave her some extra herbs so that she could continue her research.
“My dear—you’ve come!” Ms. Sprout said with a smile. “It seems these herbs have been missing you.”
When Praris entered, he brought in a breeze from outside, causing the leaves of the herbs to sway.
Praris hugged Ms. Sprout's soft body and pressed her cheek against hers: "I'm sorry, madam, I have too many courses this semester and can't come to help."
Ms. Sprout smiled gently: "It's alright, child. You've been a great help to me. Your potion works very well, and the poison tentacles are very lively."
Ms. Sprout has a garden full of poisonous tentacles, and Prares made some potions to help them sprout, which, due to their limited function, could perhaps only be called poisonous tentacle growth fertilizer.
