Abis stretched comfortably, then yawned before turning his eyes. He had originally intended to sit up and face Leona and Flora, but having been lying down for several days, his body felt sluggish from over-rest, so he abandoned the plan. Lying in place, he smiled and asked, "You thought something had happened to me? I'm perfectly fine; my soul has been completely repaired."

"Then why do your eyes glow?" Leona asked curiously. "Do you know how scary it is to see your eyes glowing in the middle of the night?"

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean for my eyes to light up.” Abyss apologized to Leona. “Actually, this is what happened, Flora would probably be more interested in. Just now, my soul was summoned to the realm of the gods, and we had a friendly exchange. In the end, they decided to let me return to reunite with you.”

“Ah… the realm of the gods.” Flora immediately realized something. “So, the gods have been watching our every move?”

“That’s right.” Abyss nodded. “But don’t worry, even though you don’t respect them as much now, they don’t care.”

"Are they planning to coerce you into doing something?" Although Leona doesn't like to think things through most of the time, her intuition is still very sharp. She immediately thought that since the Nine Gods wanted to summon the Abyss, it couldn't be to invite him up for a tea party. They must have something to say to him, and such a thing should not be very unequal—after all, they are gods, and gods don't need to care much about the feelings of mortals.

"It's not about coercing me to do anything, it's just about binding me with a chain so they can monitor my behavior at any time. If I do anything that disrupts the balance of life and death on the continent, they can just take my soul away, so I can't continue to cause trouble." Abyss said leisurely, showing no dissatisfaction what the Nine Gods intended to do for him.

After all, he had quite perfectly humiliated the Nine Gods and successfully avoided actually being chained up.

"So you listened to them?" Leona asked nervously. "Or did you fall out with them and beat them up?"

“How could I possibly obey? I would never fight against the gods. I’m no match for them.” The Abyss shrugged. “I only failed in getting them to put chains on me. They wanted to lock my soul, but my soul isn’t whole. They couldn’t lock my entire soul, so they failed. Oh, by the way, the method I used was to put the piece of my soul that I tore off back then into your soul. I had already guessed that the gods wouldn’t stand idly by, so I took precautions in advance, and they fell for it.”

Leona was initially pleased that the Abyss had outmaneuvered the gods with his schemes, but when she heard that the Abyss had stuffed his own soul into her own, she immediately lost her composure. She widened her eyes, thought for a moment, and her face quickly turned red.

"You...you...you stuffed your soul into mine? What are you doing?! Even if you're inside me, I won't be conquered by you!"

Abyss pondered for a moment, but did not understand what Leona meant: "The things of the soul are very complicated. It would take a long time to explain them to you. Just know that they are neither good nor bad for you."

"Then... then will I often dream about you when I sleep?" Leona persisted, and having stepped back to keep a meter's distance from Abyss, she moved back and stared intently at Abyss's face.

“Well… I don’t know, I’ve never tried it before.” Abis scratched his head. “Besides, you don’t need to sleep.”

“Leona, we are the dead,” Flora said, turning to remind Leona.

"I know... I just..." Leona blushed and turned her head away, not knowing why she was angry again.

“Speaking of sleeping, Abyss, we actually discovered a new extraterrestrial god while you were asleep.” Flora grabbed Leona’s shoulders, trying to calm the inexplicably sulking Leona down, and said to the Abyss at the same time.

Abyss's eyes suddenly lit up, and he immediately switched from lying down to sitting up, looking at Flora with great interest.

"Tell me quickly! What is this extraterrestrial evil god doing?"

"Yes, I'll tell you from the beginning..."

……

By the time Leona had calmed down and triumphantly pulled a small potion bottle from a pocket in her belt, the Abyss had already heard Flora's account of everything that had happened while he was asleep. He was pleased with Helen's actions in the Golden Griffin City, pleased to have encountered Princess Gylvia, whom he had indirectly helped before, and pleased even more to have discovered an extraterrestrial evil god and killed someone who appeared to be one of His minions.

"As expected of my Leona! You did a great job!" Abyss exclaimed sincerely. "I knew I could trust you!"

"Hmph, of course. Who am I? This is the black mud that turned into after that guy with only half a head died. You can take a look at it." Leona immediately became proud after being praised by Abyss. Her anger from before had completely vanished. She placed the potion bottle containing the black mud in Abyss's hand, waiting for Abyss's next move.

“Hmm… this stuff… does resemble a magical gel…” Abyss shook the potion bottle, carefully observing the properties of the black sludge inside. “However, it seems too viscous, and the energy it contains is inert; I can’t sense any interaction between it and the surrounding magic…”

"You haven't seen it before?" Leona asked.

“I may have seen it… but I’m not sure…” Abyss looked up. “Try it and you’ll know.”

Are you out of your mind?!

Chapter 97 Is there a mole among us?

Abis chuckled and shook the bottle in his hand: "Flora, do me a favor and make sure those people can't hear what's going on inside our tent."

"You really want to try it?! It's disgusting! Just the smell of that fishy odor is enough to make you want to vomit!" Leona looked at Abyss with extreme disgust. "I'm telling you, if you try it, I'll call you the Poop Sorcerer from now on!"

Flora obediently cast a silencing spell within the tent's perimeter, so even if the Abyss banged drums and gongs here, no one would hear it.

Abyss looked at Leona strangely and said, "Of course I won't try it myself. I have a knowledgeable friend here who I want to introduce to you. Come on out, you little glutton."

Abyss rubbed one of his rings with his fingers, and a wisp of green smoke rose from it. The smoke slowly drifted down and condensed on the ground into the shape of a creature on all fours.

Soon, the green smoke solidified completely, changed color, and a strange creature with an ugly appearance but wearing well-fitting clothes appeared in front of the three.

"Master is looking for Little Glutton?" the creature asked in a hoarse voice, opening its enormous mouth full of fangs.

"Hmm, you little glutton, I have a bottle of gel made from a corpse here. Would you like to try it?" Abyss showed the creature the potion bottle in his hand.

Upon seeing something edible, the creature immediately became cheerful: "Of course, this little glutton can eat anything and loves to eat everything! It can eat and help its master, which makes it very happy!"

Leona's mouth dropped open. The ugly creature before her, cheering and eagerly awaiting Abyss to unscrew the cap of the potion bottle, was a ghoul.

Ghouls are extremely gluttonous creatures. It is said that their ancestors were small spirits whose appearance changed due to prolonged consumption of carrion. These creatures lurk during the day and emerge at night, gnawing on corpses, coffins, and even tombstones in graves. Their bodies are filthy and putrid, making them repulsive to many. Most importantly, ghouls are believed to lack intelligence; they are merely scavenging animals that degenerated from a lower, less intelligent race.

But the ghoul in front of the three was quite different from the other ghouls. Not only could it speak fluent Common, but it was also wearing a clean and tidy set of linen clothes and did not have a disgusting stench. Although its face was no different from that of an ordinary ghoul, you could tell from its darting eyes that this guy actually had the ability to think.

What is this ghost?

“This is Little Glutton. I met him in a tomb when my master and I were adventuring together. He was digging up a grave robber’s corpse and eating it. When he saw me, he didn’t attack me to protect his food. Instead, he offered to trade a piece of rotten flesh for the spices I was carrying,” Abyss said with a smile. “My master and I found him very interesting, so I took him in. Later, I created a spell that could increase the intelligence of low-intelligence creatures and tested it on him. It worked! That’s when I realized he was a unique ghoul. He traveled the world just to eat all sorts of things, from delicacies to garbage. He’s eaten them all.”

"Eat your way around the world?" Leona was immediately impressed. "I also want to eat my way around the world, but I only want to eat delicious food."

"The little glutton loves to eat everything." The little glutton opened its mouth happily, waiting for Abyss to pour the black mud into its mouth.

Abyss didn't hold back and poured the contents of the bottle of black mud directly into the little glutton's gaping maw, which was filled with sharp teeth. The mud slowly flowed and was completely swallowed by the little glutton.

"Have you ever eaten this kind of thing?" Abis asked.

The well-traveled ghoul sampled the food briefly, then shook its head: "Little glutton, this is a new food."

"Ah... I see." Abyss nodded somewhat dejectedly. "Thank you for your hard work."

“New food that I haven’t eaten before, including old food that I’ve eaten before,” the little glutton suddenly said. “The black, slippery stuff is made up of lots and lots of old food.”

The three of them became curious. It seemed that the ghoul had not only eaten the bottle of foul-smelling black mud without any difficulty, but had even been able to analyze the composition of the mud very carefully.

“What is it? Tell me?” Abyss asked immediately.

The little glutton used its brain, enhanced by the Abyss, to think for a moment, and then said, "It's black and slippery, with human blood, cow blood, pork fat, and apples, mostly apples, but they're not fresh, they're rotten."

"Apples?" Abis became even more interested. "So this lump of black mud actually contains apple components, and in a significant amount?"

"Was that mage with only half a head created using some kind of magic?" Flora asked. She didn't know much about magic, especially dark magic. "There were a lot of apples in the materials used to create this kind of mage...?"

“It feels really weird,” Leona said, scratching her head. “Why would such a disgusting guy be associated with apples? I actually quite like apples. Baked apples stuffed with nuts and caramel are one of my favorite desserts… Ugh, I can’t go on like this.”

"Okay, thank you, you little glutton. I'll treat you to something new and interesting next time I see it. Now you can go back now," Abyss said to the ghoul with a smile.

"Helping my master makes this little glutton very happy." The ghoul immediately turned back into green smoke and was sucked into the Abyss's ring.

“It seems our lead has gone cold. Let’s just leave it at that for now. I think we should investigate that extraterrestrial evil god who can manipulate nightmares from other places. Maybe we can connect the clues to the composition of this black mud.” Abyss nodded, showing no sign of frustration.

“There’s another problem, which is the attack we encountered before. We feel there must be a traitor in the team,” Flora said. “However, we haven’t figured out a way to find out who the traitor is without anyone knowing. And if I use my divine magic to erase memories, I’m worried that it will alert the traitor and put Princess Gylvia in danger.”

Abis nodded: "Hmm, since the enemy was able to ambush us in a place like the valley you mentioned earlier, it's possible that someone really did leak our itinerary."

"Do you have a way to get them to confess to you without them knowing?" Leona asked excitedly. "If they need my help to catch them, I'm not unwilling to lend a hand."

“No, I don’t intend to make them confess,” Abis laughed. “I’ve thought of a possibility: the mole isn’t some malicious individual, but rather every single person in this team.”

Chapter Ninety-Eight: Perhaps Everyone Is a Traitor

Leona has learned her lesson this time.

Abyss is a wicked man. He always pauses before speaking, waiting for Leona to express her surprise before slowly and deliberately saying the second half of his sentence to embarrass her. This time, she doesn't want to fall for it again.

Leona then watched the Abyss warily, putting her rarely used little brain to work.

Is everyone a mole? Connecting this to the enemy's ability to manipulate nightmares, Leona immediately thought of a possibility.

"You mean, this enemy might be using the dreams of everyone sleeping in this camp to determine our location?"

Leona clapped her hands lightly and asked.

Abyss looked at Leona with some amazement: "You actually know to think before you're shocked. That's a big improvement."

"You filthy necromancer, are you asking for death?"

Leona raised her fist as if to strike, and Abyss quickly covered his head with his arms.

Flora nodded in sudden realization: "Ah, I really didn't think of that at first. I only realized this possibility after Leona mentioned it. Yes, since the people who came to assassinate us have the ability to manipulate nightmares, they might also be able to influence and sense the dreams of the soldiers sleeping in this camp, and through comprehensive judgment, determine our current location..."

“That’s right, that’s what I think too. You two are really on the same wavelength as me.” Abyss laughed. “Perhaps Flora is better suited to handle the rest. Divine magic is gentler than my spells.”

Flora immediately agreed: "Leave it to me."

Peeping into a person's dreams is something both magic and divine arts can do, but they employ different principles. Magic first influences a person's mind, then uses certain mechanisms to project what the person was dreaming about, allowing the user to observe it. Divine arts, as a power a level above mortals, require a much simpler process—they can directly project a person's dream into the user's mind, without affecting the target's body or mind, and without requiring any additional operations, making it convenient and efficient. This is why the Abyss chose Flora to do this.

Flora whispered a prayer, and a soft light flashed between her brows. At this moment, she had used divine magic as a medium to establish a connection between her mind and all the sleeping people in the camp. With just a thought, she could see the dreams of any one of them.

"How can I let you see these dreams too? Is the Abyss going to use some kind of magic on me?" Flora asked, looking at the Abyss after she finished doing all this.

Abyss shook his head: "I don't need to cast any spells on you. You and Leona both have my necromancy bonds, so I only need to invoke the function of the bonds to connect some kind of consciousness between the three of us... like this."

Leona was just watching the excitement when suddenly she felt her field of vision broaden, allowing her to observe the scene inside the tent from three different perspectives.

"Huh? Huh? How come I have three pairs of eyes? No, no, am I sharing your vision?"

“That’s right, the necromancy bond is a very magical thing, with many functions. There’s nothing it can’t do, only things you can’t imagine. Necromancers make a living from it,” Abyss said with a smile. “If you want, I can also share other senses with you, such as touch and smell.”

Leona was thinking something strange when her face suddenly turned red. However, Abyss did not share thoughts and had no idea what was going on in the mind of this reliable adult woman who was only about 1.4 meters tall.

After a brief period of adjustment, Flora was able to calmly deal with the situation of three people sharing the same field of vision. With a thought, she activated the detection mechanism of her divine magic.

……

This is a soldier's dream.

In this dream, the soldier is gnawing on hard bread in the camp, with a pot of not-so-good-tasting dried meat cooking next to him. Although the food is not plentiful and not particularly delicious, he still eats with relish.

"Hey, Finch, give me a bite of your bread, I'm running out of rations." Suddenly, a bearded man appeared beside him, smiling and extending his hand to him.

"Haha, Burke, you still have such a big appetite." The soldier wasn't angry that the man had asked for his food; instead, he chuckled, broke off a piece of his bread, and handed it to the bearded man.

The man named Burke took the bread, ate it contentedly, and smiled at the soldier.
