"Success! This concentrated potion really works to neutralize the poison in this factory!" Rebecca clapped her hands excitedly. "Abyss, I need to use your Magic Catfish!"

Based on her previously developed antidote, Rebecca created another potion, far more potent and many times more effective. She then added it to the poisons in the factory, where it reacted and seemed to have successfully neutralized some of the toxicity. However, this was just the beginning for Rebecca. The machine had more than one water tank; after changing to another, she carefully used tools to scoop out some poison. This poison, which had been stored in the machine for who knows how many years, was extremely dirty in color. Rebecca placed it in a heavily sealed bottle—she didn't want it to leak out when she brought it back to Hay-Twer.

Abyss didn't seem to care much; he casually tossed the bottle into the magic catfish's mouth. Since time was frozen inside the magic catfish's belly, the bottle wouldn't cause any change.

After finishing all that, Rebecca prepared to head home. Since the World Conduit had already been dismantled, she decided not to rush into repairing this one and would get home first.

……

The other end of the New World Gate is also inside the altar, closer to the bottom. After Rebecca entered the altar, she found a suitable spot and assembled the New World Gate. She even salvaged some parts from the machines there and, after some simple assembly and gluing, made a base for the New World Gate.

The four stood before the gates of the new world. Rebecca nervously embedded the magic crystal into the device, which had become slightly rusty after more than forty years.

The magic crystal remained securely in the setting without any change.

Then, Rebecca placed one hand on the metal plate at the New World Gate that allowed magic to be inputted, and slowly and carefully poured her magic into it.

The magic crystal that had been embedded first emitted light, and then, with a crack, it shattered into two pieces, falling from the hole to the ground and completely disintegrating.

“Ah…it’s still the same…what went wrong…” Rebecca sighed, turning back to say, “I had the same problem before I died, which caused me to use up all my magic crystals…there must be some factor interfering with the magic power in the crystals…what could it be…”

Chapter Nineteen: The Abyss Opens the Door to a New World

“But thankfully, thanks to you all, we now have plenty of magic crystals to use.” Rebecca wasn’t discouraged by this latest failure. She’s the kind of person who loves research and isn’t the type to be defeated by setbacks. She smiled at the three girls (including Abyss, who was wearing a dress) to show that she wasn’t upset. “Let me think of another way.”

Flora is now standing next to Rebecca, holding a jar containing the magic crystal she just created. She silently extends the jar to Rebecca's hand.

Rebecca gave Flora a grateful look, then grabbed a magic crystal from the jar.

"Perhaps I rushed into inputting magic. This time, I'll try inputting magic in smaller, safer increments."

With that, Rebecca re-inserted the magic crystal she had just taken out into the hole in the door, and turned to Abyss, saying, "Abyss, you are the most senior mage among us, so please check if there is anything unusual about my magic. If there is, please observe it for me."

“Of course,” Abyss readily agreed. As the world’s undisputed strongest necromancer, Abyss was naturally a ninth-rank, ninth-grade Supreme Mage. Mages could use a spell called Mana Manifestation to make magic visible to the naked eye. The difference between high-ranking and low-ranking mages was that high-ranking mages could manipulate Mana Manifestation more precisely, making it display only what they wanted to see, rather than showing all the magical flows here, chaotically intertwined.

As the Abyss chanted the incantation, a band of light shimmering with magical runes appeared before Rebecca. Upon seeing the light, Rebecca nodded slightly and placed her hand once more on the magic-infused disc.

A faint wisp of magic flowed from her hand, glowing a pale white under the Abyss's spell. It was absorbed into the disc, flowing through a complex magical circuit within the gate to the new world without any unusual fluctuations or interruptions. The magic gradually reached the magic crystal, accumulating little by little. A stream of magic began to flow within the crystal's patterns, slowly filling it completely.

Snap! Thud!

Just as Rebecca's magic refilled the crystal's engraving, it made a cracking sound under the strain, then shattered in two, falling from the setting and crashing to the ground into two piles of fragments.

“Another failure…” Rebecca frowned slightly, pinching her chin. “I didn’t find anything wrong. Everything went according to my plan, there were no mistakes. At first, I thought it was because I was careless, causing a problem with the magic circuits of this side of the portal. But now it seems that’s not the case? Abyss, have you found anything?”

Abyss shook his head. As a professional mage, he was the most qualified to speak on this matter. If even he couldn't see anything wrong with the magic, then there really shouldn't be any problem.

"Where else can the conditions be adjusted?" Rebecca pondered, then suddenly her eyes lit up, and she said to Leona, "Leona, you must know magic, right?"

Leona was a little surprised to be asked this question. She had thought that as a tough girl who only knew how to use her aura to hit people, she didn't have much to say about this kind of technical skill.

"Ah, I know a little, but it's very weak. I can only make a fire or light something," Leona said. These minor spells were compulsory courses for her as a noblewoman, and even such simple spells took her tutor a lot of effort to teach her back then—she was too mischievous and often skipped magic classes.

“It’s alright. As long as you know magic and can manipulate magic power, it’s fine. My machine can run as long as magic power is injected into it. It doesn’t require a high level of magic power.” Rebecca took out another magic crystal from the jar that Flora was holding and re-inserted it into the socket of the New World Gate. “Could you please inject a little magic power into this panel for me? Just relax and don’t be too strong.”

“Oh…okay.” Leona nodded, then took two steps forward, standing where Rebecca had stepped aside. Abyss chanted the spell again, and some visible streams of magic appeared on Leona. The magic streams on her were fainter and more uncontrollable, due to her lower level of magic.

Leona tiptoed and placed her hand on the panel used to infuse magic. She tried her best to control the magic she was unfamiliar with, gently channeling it into her...

Click!

"Oops! I'm so sorry!" Leona was startled by the sudden shattering of the magic crystal. "I broke it!"

“It’s alright, it’s alright, this shouldn’t be your fault. It seems your magic isn’t working either…” Rebecca was thinking, and was about to let Flora try it too, when she was suddenly interrupted by Abyss’s words.

“Don’t let Flora try yet, let me try first,” Abyss said with a smile. “I think I know why you can’t go home…”

Rebecca was somewhat surprised. How did Abyss guess? There was clearly no pattern to the problem with this magic crystal.

Despite her doubts, she nodded and said to Abyss, "Okay, you give it a try!"

Abyss casually walked forward, placed his hand on the enchanting panel, and began to input magic.

Rebecca held her breath, watching the Abyss's movements. He didn't deliberately control the speed of the magic injection; he just injected magic in a normal way. However, the phenomenon of the magic crystal shattering that Rebecca expected didn't occur. Instead, a delightful "buzzing" sound rang out when the Abyss's magic injection reached a certain amount, and the portal that Rebecca had been waiting for for over forty years appeared before her at that moment.

"It worked!" Rebecca covered her mouth with both hands in disbelief. "How did you do that?"

“I simply infused it with ordinary magic, and it was just ordinary magic that any mage who has just graduated from apprenticeship could do,” Abyss said with a smile. “However, this matter is a little complicated to explain. Why don’t we go home first, and after we’ve resolved things, I’ll explain it to you in detail—we’ll have plenty of time in the future.”

Rebecca nodded happily, a blush of excitement on her face: "Okay! Take me home!"

"Just to be on the safe side, you should first..."

So, to Rebecca's astonishment, Abyss summoned the magical catfish, enlarged it, and then very gentlemanly gestured for it to enter.

"...We need to get in here. Hey, Leona, don't run away, we want to go home!"

Chapter Twenty: Mr. Eugene is Unhappy

On the streets of Lavoisier, a somber-faced middle-aged man walked briskly with a cane, followed by a large, imposing retinue. The man wore an elegant top hat, sported a neatly trimmed mustache, and wore a magnificent gold fitted coat; his gleaming leather boots slammed on the ground. A closer look revealed a strange ring on his finger—shaped like a sheep's eye.

The sun was high in the sky, and the shops in Lavoisier should have been open for business, but every shop along the street the middle-aged man walked by had its doors and windows tightly shut. Apart from his entourage, there was no one else on the streets. The once bustling city of Lavoisier had become a silent city.

"Mr. Eugene! We've caught a Black Hat gang member!"

Just as the middle-aged man was walking forward, a call came from behind him. He did not turn around, but slowed his pace slightly.

Several burly men wearing sheep-eye necklaces carried a young man with a bruised and swollen face over and quickly approached the middle-aged man known as Mr. Eugene, forcing the young man to kneel on the ground.

Mr. Eugene looked coldly at the young man who had just been beaten and gently poked his face with his cane.

"Kid, where is your cowardly boss Titus hiding? Tell me, and I might consider sparing your life."

"whee……"

The young man looked at Eugene with his eyes, which were swollen and narrowed to slits, and a smile appeared on his face.

"Hurry up, don't test my patience." Eugene didn't even bother to look at him anymore, but simply held the hand with the sheep's eye ring in front of his eyes, letting the sunlight shine on it, and admiring it carefully.

“On your mother’s bed,” the young man said with a smile.

Eugene lazily cast his gaze upon the young man from the Black Hat Gang, then suddenly raised his cane and slammed it down on the young man's head. The heavy metal cane dented the young man's skull.

The young body convulsed and collapsed. Eugene didn't even glance at the dying man, and continued walking forward. His entourage immediately followed, some even trampling on the young man's body.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Eugene, every Black Hat Gang stronghold has been heavily fortified in advance, and our men can’t break in for the time being. They must have been preparing for this for a long time.” One of the burly men who had just brought the young man over quickly caught up with Eugene. “We don’t know where Titus is hiding either. Should we launch a large-scale search?”

“Take care of the officials first, then conduct the search. I don’t need to teach you that.” Eugene was very tall and had a long stride. “Don’t storm the Black Hat Gang’s stronghold. Let our men calm down first. I want to kill that damned madwoman Lanis first.”

"Understood!" The burly man immediately stepped back. Even though Mr. Eugene's body looked so thin next to his muscular frame, his eyes still held fear of Eugene, and he didn't even dare to look Eugene in the eye.

Eugene's group was heading to Lanis's residence. Before that, an advance team had gone to cause trouble for Lanis, but none of them returned. It was obvious that Lanis, that madwoman, had used them as fireworks.

News of the Sheep's Eye Gang's impending clash with the Black Hat Gang had spread throughout Lavoisier by early morning. Regardless of what important business the merchants and commoners of Lavoisier had to attend to that day, no one left their homes.

Gangs generally don't bother unrelated civilians, but if someone randomly blocks their path on the street, they might lose their life. Even though civilians have always coexisted with the gangs in the city, no one dares to underestimate these real thugs, and no one doubts that they have the guts to kill.

Mr. Eugene, who was about to give himself a pampering facial, was nearly driven mad with rage after receiving a damage report from his subordinates that was delayed by an entire night. He beat the prostitute he had been intimate with the previous night to death with his cane and smashed several expensive vases.

The machine that could endlessly produce alchemical solvents had been dismantled and rendered completely unusable. After the factory was broken into, all the child laborers were stolen. The factory foreman's body had only just been discovered—the unfortunate dwarf, covered in wounds, lay dead in a patch of grass in the cemetery, the cause of death being suffocation—he seemed to have suffered immense trauma, digging a hole and burying his face in the ground. Lanis, who had been imprisoned in the factory, was also nowhere to be found; that wicked bastard had even blown up several of his machines as he left.

This was like a piece of Eugene's heart being torn out! That solvent machine was the secret to the Sheep's Eye Gang's wealth! Although the Sheep's Eye Gang, now firmly established in Lavoisier, didn't particularly need it, it could save Eugene a lot of money! Eugene hated paying money, hated paying for anything, and the high-quality alchemical solvent produced by this solvent machine could save him a lot of money!

He immediately ordered his men to attack the only suspected Black Hat Gang, but so far, the Sheep Eye Gang's attack has been ineffective. Just as the burly man had reported, those Black Hat Gang bastards had been preparing for this for a long time, and every one of their strongholds was fortified with impenetrable defenses. That treacherous son of a bitch Titus is probably hiding somewhere, laughing his head off.

Eugene grew angrier the more he thought about it, and became even more determined to kill that crazy lunatic Lannis.

This crazy woman is impossible to bribe! She looks down on everyone and won't be satisfied with any reward! To stop her from causing trouble, we have to kill her!

Killing her wasn't enough! Eugene was already contemplating the scene of submerging Lannice's wrinkled head in a corrosive potion! He wanted to make Lannice regret being born!

Titus had foreseen many things, but he still didn't have all the information. Eugene's lips curled into a stiff smile.

The Sheep's Eye Gang has the power to wipe out the Black Hat Gang today—now, kill Lanis first, then drag Titus out and let him taste what it's like to be worse than dead!

……

The footsteps of the Sheep's Eye gang members gradually faded into the distance, and the young man who had been killed by Eugene lay quietly on the spot.

Just when the footsteps were no longer audible, the man whose skull had been dented by Eugene's blows suddenly and slowly got up.

"Hiss... This bone-softening potion isn't perfect enough... My head is killing me..." He grabbed his hair and pulled hard, and his sunken skull bounced back like a rubber ball. As he stood up, he muttered, "Damn it, I have to report to the boss right away. Where the hell did the Sheep Eye Gang get their helpers from...?"

Chapter Twenty-One: Lanis's Little Gift

When Eugene's main force arrived at Lannis's house, the area was already filled with the pungent smell of potent potions and smoke from the explosion.

Several members of the Sheep's Eye Gang were still lying on the ground, groaning in pain. Their legs had been turned into a pile of minced meat by the violent explosion, with white bone fragments exposed, which made the gang members who rushed over from behind feel a chill down their spines.

Lanis's usual actions mainly involve destruction, leading everyone to mistakenly believe she's just a crazy woman who enjoys blowing things up. But now, seeing their own people crippled by the explosions, they finally remember that Lanis is a madwoman, a truly mentally unstable madwoman! If they really anger her, the intensity of her revenge will far exceed that of ordinary people.

She spared the lives of those whose legs had been blown off, not only out of compassion, but also because she intended to use their tragic fate as a warning to others. The wounded lying on the ground, screaming in agony, were far more emotionally impactful than the motionless dead.

Eugene looked coldly toward the top of the Lannice mansion wall, where a short figure sat, staring in their direction.

He knew this person very well; wasn't this Lanis? That crazy old woman who always liked to create explosions?

"Lannis! Why did you dismantle my solvent machine? I don't recall having any irreconcilable grudges with you. You blew up my warehouse first, so it's only fair that I temporarily detain you to make you compensate me." Eugene stared at Lannis, who was sitting on the wall smirking, with eyes like a viper, seemingly desperately suppressing his anger. "And yet you cooperated with the Black Hat Gang to deliver a nasty blow to me. Isn't that a bit much?"

"Hahaha, although I feel sorry, I never ask what grudge I have against someone when I bomb them. You should know that, right, you well-dressed old man."

Lanis's voice seemed to be coming from some kind of magical megaphone, and her maniacal laughter echoed around the Sheep's Eye gang members.

“Hey, Lannis, you know what? I have to kill you today.” Mr. Eugene laughed angrily. “You’ve shaken up the foundation of my Sheep’s Eye Gang. That’s far more serious than stealing my woman or blowing up my warehouse. You’ve really annoyed me, and there’s only one way I can get my mood back: cripple you first, then burn your house down in front of you—I know you were once the richest man in Lavoisier, Miss Rebecca’s assistant, and you have many of her belongings. I’m going to smash them in front of you and see if you, this madman, will feel any sadness.”

"Hahahaha..." Lanis burst into laughter. "You want to come into my house? Did you ask my explosives for permission? If you barge in, something very fun will happen, you know? Explosion! Explosion! Beautiful fireworks! Boom!"

"Grab this damn halfling!" Eugene seemed to have lost his patience and ordered his men.

"I'll do it!" A gang member whose arm had been modified into a metal arm immediately sprang into action. He rushed out from behind and reached out to Lanis, who was sitting on the wall.
