Abyss looked up at the necromancer: "Don't go, you still haven't told me your name."

“My name is Legnas. The Council of the Dead greets you.” The necromancer, who had just used a dirty trick, looked coldly at the Abyss as if he were looking at a dead man. “When you die, that will be the time when we can truly begin to communicate.”

That gray-haired cross-dressing pervert is dead! Legnas made up his mind, not for any other reason than his unwavering confidence in his own magic!

He was an eighth-tier necromancer. When a mage's strength reaches the seventh tier or higher, even if the enemy is incredibly powerful, there's still a chance to counterattack! This is because the destructive power of a high-level combat mage can almost break through all passive defenses, unless the enemy detects the attack and counters accordingly! So what if that guy named Abyss is strong and mysterious? Once his heart is completely shattered, unless he's not human, he can't possibly survive!

"It's a pleasure to meet you. I didn't expect the necromancers of the Bone Stream to be so strong now. I was almost caught off guard."

However, Abyss did not collapse to the ground as Legnas had expected, nor did he show the slightest discomfort. He simply sat there, smiling amiably at Legnas with his blue-green eyes, his gaze calm yet seemingly tinged with mockery.

"What?! Why aren't you injured?!"

"To be precise, I suffered a minor superficial injury." Abis shrugged, then grabbed the bone spur that had grown on his chest with one hand, easily snapped it off at the base, and then pulled it out of his chest with a forceful pull!

Legnas was astonished to see that the bone spur in Abyss's hand was not crescent-shaped as he had imagined, but rather had a fist-sized circle around the center, as if it had bulged out like a bulge.

It perfectly bypassed the Abyss's heart! In other words, this spell, which was so fast that no one could react, was taken over and controlled by the Abyss midway through its execution!

Abyss casually tossed the protruding bone spur onto the ground with a clatter: "Actually, I'm quite curious about how the other schools of necromancer are doing now. I haven't met a reliable colleague in a long time."

Regnas now truly felt fear!

The gray-haired boy so effortlessly deflected what he considered a genius's attack, and instead of getting angry afterward, he became curious about him.

If the Abyss isn't a nightmare, then it's a super-powerful being that Legnas simply can't harm! It doesn't care about Legnas at all!

We must escape! He must be connected to the disappearance of the Lord of the Fallen! This information must be relayed back to the Council!

Abyss, however, didn't think that much about it; he really wanted to know how the various schools of necromancer had developed.

From a young age, Abyss never distinguished between different schools of necromancy because he could quickly learn any spell his master taught him. Distinguishing between schools is merely to allow necromancers to efficiently develop a particular specialty, but Abyss clearly didn't need that. It's a pity that the complete learning plan his master devised for him was completely useless.

Therefore, his understanding of martial arts schools was limited to what his master had told him.

Each school of magic has different specializations, and necromancers are divided into three main schools: Summoning, Bone Manipulation, and Corpse Manipulation. The spells that the Abyss used to resurrect its followers belong to the Summoning specialization, capable of awakening the souls of the dead from their rest, turning them into ghosts, or returning them to their bodies. The Bone Manipulation specializes in manipulating bones, with the most basic magic being the creation of bone spikes and bone armor from bone powder and magic. This school may seem unrefined, but it is actually the most practical of the three major necromancer specializations. Finally, there is the Corpse Manipulation specialization. Necromancers of this school only manipulate corpses without resurrecting souls. High-level Corpse Manipulation necromancers can control an entire army, even unleashing a portion of the deceased's fighting power in life. Limb manipulation is one of the most basic spells of this school, and the Abyss once used this basic spell to manipulate hundreds of millions of tentacles of the Fallen Lord.

While the Bone Stream does indeed contain spells that manipulate the enemy's bones to grow bone spurs and then harm the caster, this was the first time he had seen one so fast. In addition, many of the spells he learned in elementary school were ancient ones he obtained from dead necromancers in their graves, which made him curious about the combat power of modern necromancers.

However, Legnas had no intention of satisfying the Abyss's curiosity. Having already lost the will to fight, he began to look for an opportunity to escape. The bone armor reappeared on his body, and this time he planned to use his skeletal manipulation to fly away.

Abyss could tell at a glance that Legnas was not an easy person to communicate with. He sighed softly and then flicked one finger.

Ta-da!

"Uh ah ah ah ah!"

Legnas cried out in pain as bone spurs suddenly began to grow from his bones, which had been growing as he had intended to escape! These bone spurs burrowed out of his flesh and then plunged deep into the ground, where they continued to grow, taking root like plants!

Excruciating pain emanated from every inch of his torn skin. His body instinctively tried to struggle, but he was firmly pinned to the ground and unable to move an inch!

"Don't get any funny ideas. If you attack me, I'll retaliate. If you don't attack me, I won't do anything to you. Let's put the matter of schools of thought aside for now. Come on, tell me the purpose of your trip."

Abyss remained seated in the same spot, maintaining that leisurely sideways posture.

Faced with an absolute disparity in strength, Legnas finally gave up his last unrealistic fantasy.

"I...I came here to find Rebecca's body...to obtain the secrets about the Shadow Demon..."

“See, you should have said so earlier, then there wouldn’t have been so many misunderstandings.” Abyss suddenly laughed. “Rebecca is with me. I’ll introduce you to her and see what she says. Then, you can tell me the purpose of your Council of the Dead, and I can let you go. Everyone will be happy, how about that—oh right, before that, I need to set your undead servants free, but I won’t ask for your opinion on that. They are the ones who have the right to make the decision.”

Chapter Twenty-Seven: What the Council of the Dead Wants

To Legnas's disbelief, the Abyss summoned a magical catfish, which enlarged and then ensnared a fair-skinned Ubisoft inside.

First, the Abyss brought out of the catfish was a petite silver-haired girl, followed by a black-haired girl in a white dress who was barefoot, and finally, a gentle and beautiful woman with a full head of blonde hair.

"Are we back?!" Leona was the first to speak, because time was frozen inside the magical catfish's belly, so she had no idea how much time had passed outside.

Flora looked around curiously, somewhat surprised to find herself amidst ruins, but she quickly realized she was Lanis's house. She wasn't worried about anything else, except that the house probably wouldn't last much longer, and she was afraid the Abyss might get hurt—even though the chances were extremely slim.

Rebecca had inquired about the characteristics of the Abyss Magic Catfish beforehand, so she was already prepared for the moment she would appear in the long-lost Hay-Twert before following Flora into the Magic Catfish. As soon as she regained her mobility, she immediately opened her arms wide and shouted, "Hay-Twert! Your alchemist is back!"

Abyss patted Leona's head, exchanged a smile with Flora, and finally nodded to Rebecca: "That's right, we're back, but the situation is a bit complicated right now. Let's solve the current problems first, and then slowly enjoy life at home."

Meanwhile, Legnas, who was pinned to the ground by the Abyss's magic, was completely stunned.

He had never heard of any magical pet that could swallow a person and then spit them out, nor did he know that such advanced spatial magic existed in the world. Moreover, although he did not know who two of the three girls Abyss brought out of the giant catfish's mouth were, he knew the black-haired girl very well!

His purpose in coming here was to find Rebecca's body. Before coming, he did a lot of research, especially memorizing the description of Rebecca's appearance in books—black hair, chestnut eyes, and pretty features. Besides these characteristics, Rebecca also had another feature that was popular among the common people: large breasts.

Rebecca's figure is not thin, but full of youthful vitality, full and enthusiastic. Now she is wearing a simple white dress, which makes her look even more attractive.

The Abyss has resurrected Rebecca? What high-level spell did he use? Why is the resurrected undead so lifelike, indistinguishable from the living?! Legnas couldn't believe his eyes. In his memory, even the highest-level necromancer spells used by the strongest necromancers could only restore the dead to almost 100% of their former strength, but their appearance would still differ from the living, such as a pale face and unfocused eyes. These flaws needed to be concealed with makeup.

But the three girls in front of me didn't look like they were wearing makeup; their beauty was natural and vibrant.

Who exactly is he?! How can he be so strong?!

Leona pondered for a long time how many times the Abyss patted her head should count as a touch and how much she should be charged. Only after she finished calculating did she realize that there was a mage-like figure in front of her, bound by bone spikes. The guy did look rather pathetic, but clearly, the only one who could have done this to him was the Abyss, who stood to the side with a carefree smile.

She thought for a moment and said to Abyss, "Abyss, do you need me to beat him up for you?"

“Oh no, this person is here to see Rebecca.” Abyss chuckled and patted Leona’s head. “I’m going to introduce him to Rebecca.”

“Twenty…” Leona muttered softly.

"Huh? What?"

"I'm not telling you, hehehe!" Leona stuck her tongue out at Abyss.

Abyss casually tugged at Leona's protruding tongue, and amidst her angry accusations, said to Rebecca, "Rebecca, this man is called Legnas, from a necromancer organization, the Council of the Dead. He came to Lavoisier this time to find you, saying you have a secret about the Shadow Demon. Do you know anything about it?"

"The secret of the Shadow Demon?" Rebecca thought for a moment, sucking on her finger, then looked at Legnas with a strange expression. "Why do you think I possess such a secret?"

"...Because during one of our investigations into you, we discovered that before your death, you purchased a batch of corrupted magic crystals from the Shadowfall, passing through several hands." Although reluctant to reveal his organization's plans, Legnas knew he couldn't hide anything from the Abyss, so he reluctantly told Rebecca, "Your research on those magic crystals must involve the worlds from which those monsters originated. If we obtain your research findings, perhaps we can gain access to a means of communicating with those monsters..."

"Then why didn't you act sooner?" the Abyss asked, somewhat amused. This Council of the Dead was truly unlucky; no matter what they did, they always ended up doing it right after the Abyss, gaining nothing in the end. If they had acted before the Abyss, Lannis might have died much earlier, and then the Abyss would have had to go through even more trouble.

“Because this idea is too uncertain—since you know about the Fallen Lord, do you know that some of our members are followers of the Fallen Lord? We just lost contact with the Fallen Lord and had no choice but to try to awaken Rebecca in order to bring the Shadow Demons under our control and maintain the Council of the Dead’s rule.” Legnas stared intently at Rebecca. “The Council of the Dead needs power, and we can never have too much.”

"Are you so eager to take revenge on this world?" Abyss asked, a hint of doubt in his voice. "Why don't you think of ways to achieve peace other than world domination?"

“You’re a necromancer too, why don’t you understand the hatred people have for us?” Legnas scoffed at Abyss’s pacifist ideas. “Are you willing to walk amidst people’s hatred?”

“The living do not like me, but the dead love and respect me.” Abyss spread his hands. “Because I respect the dead, they are willing to follow me. But you treat the dead as slaves, so you cannot even earn the respect of the dead.”

"Heh... It's no use saying all this. There can never be peace between necromancers and humans. Even if you were, could you come up with a good solution?"

Abyss was stumped by this guy's question. Although he advocated peace, he couldn't think of a solution that would please everyone.

“Don’t try to sway my fiancé’s thinking. Vengeance won’t bring any progress to this world.” Rebecca, who had been listening quietly, said at this moment. “I roughly understand the ins and outs of this matter. But unfortunately, I don’t have any information about the Shadow Demon. I did go to the other world with those magic crystals, but there is no prototype of the Shadow Demon in that world. You came for nothing.”

“That’s impossible! The Three Venerables’ judgment cannot be wrong!” Legnas shouted in denial.

Chapter Twenty-Eight: You Don't Have That Much Face

"They're talking about people I don't know again. Who are the Three Venerables?" Abyss asked, exasperated.

“The Three Venerables are the leaders of the Council of the Dead. They led us out of the continent of Hai-Tver and settled in the Shadowfall. No wonder you don’t know. After all, you don’t even know the current state of necromancers in the world. If I’m not mistaken, you’re not human at all, are you?” Legnas looked into Abyss’s eyes.

"Hmm? Oh, sorry, I really am human, maybe a little bit of elven hybrid blood, but I haven't verified it." Abyss scratched his head.

Legnas assumed Abyss was lying to him, so he snorted and remained silent.

“If he came to me just for these things, I think our conversation can end here,” Rebecca said casually. “I know nothing about Shadow Demons. When you came to that world to save me, you didn’t see anything related to Shadow Demons, did you?”

“Hmm…that is indeed the case.” Abyss pondered for a moment, then looked up at Legnas and said, “Perhaps your three venerable ones are indeed wrong this time. Even gods make mistakes, so how do you know your leader won’t?”

Legnas was utterly disheartened. The battle with the Abyss today had shattered all his pride. The man hadn't even moved, simply sitting on the ground, yet he had overwhelmingly defeated him, barely scratching the surface of his enemy's flesh, and doing so without Legnas even noticing. And after such a crushing defeat, this mysterious gray-haired boy had once again called out his target: the deceased Miss Rebecca.

Miss Rebecca told him personally that she knew nothing about Shadow Demons, which meant that his mission to the Eastern Empire had been a complete failure. He was an eighth-tier mage with a high position in the council, and this huge setback almost made him give up hope.

"Gulp, kill me..." He closed his eyes unwillingly.

"Who wanted to kill you?" Abyss said, unable to suppress a laugh. "I never said I wanted to kill you, did I?"

Legnas opened his eyes again and looked at Abyss in confusion.

“First, I need to set the undead you’ve enslaved free. There’s no room for negotiation on that. If they’re willing to let you go after they’re freed, then you can leave. Of course, I personally prefer that you leave successfully, so I’ll make a request to them.” Abyss slowly walked toward Legnas and said, “Tell the Council of the Dead about my situation, and tell them to come find me when they’re ready. I have reasons that you have to take action.”

"Reason...?" Legnas asked, puzzled.

“The Lord of the Fallen has lost contact with you because He has already partnered exclusively with me,” Abyss smiled slightly. “Now His power is only available to my followers. Leona, show him what you’ve got.”

Feeling humiliated after having her tongue pulled by Abyss, Leona reluctantly pouted and raised her hand, a few translucent tentacles flashing across her arm.

Legnash almost popped his eyes out.

So this guy was behind the Fallen Lord's disappearance! What methods did he use to get that perpetually insatiable evil god, the Fallen Lord, to cooperate exclusively with him? Those tentacles couldn't be fake. Although Legnas himself wasn't a follower of the Fallen Lord, these tentacles would appear when the Fallen Lord's followers in the Council of the Dead used their divinely granted abilities. He was very familiar with them!

Abyss is right. As long as the Council desires the power of the Fallen Lord, they will surely find a way to take action against him!

And this guy is actually looking forward to the Council of the Dead coming after him! What kind of power does he have that makes him want to clash with the Council of the Dead even though he knows they are quite powerful?

Just what level of power do his relatives possess?

"You want to wipe us out? You're a retro necromancer!" Legnas finally realized the Abyss's identity. "Since you hate us so much, why don't you just kill us all!"

“Because it’s troublesome.” Abyss picked at his ear. “You don’t have that kind of face to make me come all the way here. Besides, I don’t want to wipe you out. I’ve never liked killing people. It’s just that coming to cause trouble for me can give your top fighters something to do, so they can stay away from innocent people.”

Legnas sensed the Abyss's contempt for him and the Council of the Dead; it seemed that in this young man's eyes they were nothing, not even worthy of being called opponents...

But now he has no choice but to believe that this is really the case...

The Abyss took all the vials and jars containing the vessels of souls from Legnas's body, then released all the undead enslaved by Legnas from them, severing their ties with Legnas.

Legnas was a seasoned necromancer, and the number and quality of the undead he released were considerable, numbering in the dozens of highly skilled ghost warriors or mages. After gaining their freedom, these undead were all deeply grateful to the Abyss, who then led them in a vote to decide Legnas's fate.

Legnas was extremely relieved that he had only ever tormented and whipped these spirits and had no irreconcilable grudge against them. This allowed the spirits, persuaded by the Abyss, to win the vote by a narrow margin, with the faction advocating for the release of the dead. The lucky Legnas was thus spared.

Thus, this esteemed mage, who was originally a guest of honor of the Sheep's Eye Gang, was stripped of almost all his possessions and left in disgrace, taking the information about the Abyss to the Council of the Dead.

Watching Legnas leave dejectedly, Abyss clapped his hands and said to Rebecca, "Well, it's finally over. Now, it's time for you and Lannis to reunite."
