Gangs offered various sums of money for Lanis's help, all in an effort to weaken their rivals, making her extremely sought after. Some tried to kill Lanis, but she quickly taught them a lesson – not only did she use explosives for defense, but she also retaliated when provoked.

Amidst the constant explosions orchestrated by Lanière, these gangs were like slimes thrown into lukewarm water. By the time they realized that Lanière had severely weakened them all with her bombs, making it impossible for them to continue, it was already too late to salvage the situation.

Lanis used this ruthless, exploitative method, leveraging the momentum of gang warfare to gradually hollow out several gangs in Lavoisier. Gangs that couldn't make money were worthless; once the bosses realized this, they withdrew, and the gang members disbanded, leaving their now-defunct leaders to slink away. Lanis was the sole victor in this gang warfare.

With the powerful gangs gone, merchants gradually returned, and Lavoisier's economy began to recover. The new gangs that arrived later learned from the mistakes of the past, reducing the frequency of cutthroat competition and agreeing not to give Lanis too large a commission, which allowed them to survive to this day.

Lanis made a lot of money, but no amount of money could buy back Rebecca, her like-minded best friend. Lanis was exhausted, but just as she was preparing to escape this place of trouble and spend the rest of her life in the Western Empire, she learned about the World Conduit through some channels. This led to the events that followed.

“I’ve finally found you, Rebecca. I… I feel like I have no other desires… Seeing you safe and sound here makes me feel like all these years have been worthwhile.” Lanis wiped away her tears. “Whether you’re a ghost or a living person, all I care about is being able to see you again.”

“I can continue my research now,” Rebecca said, taking Lanis’s hand. “Just like before.”

“But you have a new partner now.” Lanis looked at Abyss standing behind her. “He might be able to work with you as well as I do. Maybe I can retire now.”

"Don't you want to be an alchemist anymore?"

“Of course I love alchemy, but Abyss will definitely take you on trips in the future. I prefer spending my time in the lab—I won’t get involved in gangster affairs anymore.” Lanis spread her hands. “I’ve saved enough money and bought a manor in the Western Empire. I plan to settle down there. Who says halflings like to travel? I hate traveling!”

Rebecca laughed: "Being only interested in the lab, that's definitely like you."

“Abyss, what you did was very important to me, so I owe you a huge favor.” Lanis turned to Abyss, who was grinning foolishly to the side. “I’ll give you my address at the Western Empire Manor in a bit. You and Rebecca can come to me anytime. I’ll do my best to help you whenever I can.”

“Thank you so much.” Abis nodded.

"You'll be good to Rebecca, won't you? Like you were to that grey elf?" Lanis asked again.

Leona, who was standing nearby, immediately perked up her ears.

"Of course, as long as I'm alive... it doesn't matter if I die or not, I won't let Rebecca get hurt."

“He will not only be good to me, but he will also fall in love with me and eventually marry me.” Rebecca suddenly took two steps back and grabbed Abyss’s hand. Abyss, on the other hand, smiled innocently.

"Ah... he didn't react to the poison in your body?" Lanis only then noticed Abyss's difference. She raised an eyebrow. "Then he really is a match made in heaven for you."

"Hehe, although we haven't sparked any romance yet, I'll try my best to do more," Rebecca said with a laugh, wrapping her arms around Abyss. Flora, who was listening nearby, gave Abyss a meaningful look, while Leona felt a strong sense of crisis. If she were a small animal, she would probably be bristling with anger by now.

"How do I wipe it?" Abys asked the question quite seriously.

“Hey! You brat, don’t mess with my friend in front of me!” Lanis warned.

“I didn’t flirt with him…” Abyss scratched his head.

"Leaving aside whether you flirted with me or not, we have something else to do," Lanis said at this moment. "Rebecca, the property you asked me to hide is still safe. I can take you to retrieve it now; you'll definitely need it on the way."

Chapter Thirty-Two: The Hard Times Are Over

When Abyss and her group were led out of the mansion and onto the street by Lanis, the gang warfare in Lavoisier seemed to have ended. The streets were no longer filled with armed thugs, only a few wounded men groaning on the ground. Some people began to cautiously emerge from their homes, and some bolder merchants opened their shops, preparing to open for business. The city guards arrived late, failing to fulfill their duty of protecting the city, but they did a good job of cleaning the streets and helping to carry the wounded.

“It looks like Titus has accomplished his plan.” Abyss said to the girls and Lanis beside him as they walked down the street. “He told me before that he had wanted to take action against the Sheep Eye Gang for a long time.”

"What kind of person is this Titus?" Rebecca was very interested in the topic of gangsters. After all, she had a bad relationship with the gangsters in Lavoisier City when she was alive. She couldn't stand the gangsters' rampant tyranny, and the gangsters also hated her for meddling in their affairs. Over time, the two became mortal enemies.

“If he hadn’t been corrupted by power, he might have been a decent mob boss,” Lanis replied. “He’s ambitious, but he’s principled. He never tolerates his men harassing ordinary people, nor does he use force to bully legitimate merchants. The difference between him as a mobster and a regular businessman is probably that many of the potions he sells are contraband. But even when selling contraband, he thoroughly investigates the buyer’s identity to prevent anyone from using his potions to harm innocent people.”

"That sounds good, but why would he do that?" Rebecca was puzzled. In her mind, gangsters would use their dominance to make a fortune. How could there be someone who set rules for himself and refused to make money?

“I don’t know about that. All I know is that since he killed the previous leader of the Black Hat Gang and became the boss himself, the order in Lavoisier has indeed improved a lot.” Lanis nodded. “Although I did bomb his gang a few times, it was because Eugene, the leader of the Sheep’s Eye Gang, was too stingy and paid too little, and also because I didn’t really dislike that carefree but disciplined kid. I always held back and didn’t leave any of their people crippled. At most, they would just be bedridden for a few months.”

"Hmm... there are gang leaders like this? I'm actually quite interested in this guy." Rebecca looked curious.

Abis said, "If you want to know more about him, I can actually take you to meet him. He promised to tell me some things about himself before, and he should be able to satisfy your curiosity."

Rebecca nodded, her lingering resentment towards the gangsters and her curiosity about Titus, this extraordinary leader, intertwined, making her even more eager to learn more about him. Although the Abyss hadn't formally discussed the adventure with her yet, the perceptive Rebecca guessed that she would soon be leaving with the Abyss for a wider world. Whether Titus was a good or bad person would determine whether Rebecca could leave Lavoisier with peace of mind.

This city was, after all, Rebecca's home. She had grown up here, and even though it had become dark and chaotic due to the mafia and the incompetent lord, it was still a place Rebecca could never sever ties with. She couldn't irresponsibly leave this city, which represented the future of alchemy in the world, to fend for itself.

Lanis led her group directly out of the city, indicating that she hadn't hidden Rebecca's legacy inside the city. They walked for nearly an hour before stopping in front of a small hill.

“We’ve arrived.” Lanis pointed to the small hill in front of them. “I’ve converted the assets that Rebecca had to save in her will into gold and stored them here. They’re very safe, and no one can steal them.”

"I'm quite curious, how did you manage to transport so much gold here? How much is there in total?"

“Gold worth 100 million Imperial Coins!” Lanis smiled smugly. “Transporting it here wasn’t a big problem, but exchanging so much gold was really troublesome. I went through a lot of trouble to complete the mission as quickly as possible.”

"Thank you for your hard work." Rebecca smiled apologetically, "I earn too much money, and even exchanging just a portion of it is a hassle."

“Who apologizes to someone just because they made too much money?” Lanis waved her hand as she walked toward the hill. “Besides, didn’t you also give me a share of your inheritance? That’s why I had so much money to do experiments, even though I earned most of the money I spent back from the mob.”

Abyss could sense that there was indeed a hollow place underground. Just as he was waiting for Lanis to press some mechanism to open a door for Xiaoshan, Lanis pulled out a metal can filled with liquid from her bosom. He didn't know when she had brought it with her.

She searched the ground for a while, then moved a rock, revealing a small hole that looked like a mouse hole. She poured the liquid from the jar she was holding directly into it.

"If you don't want to get covered in dirt, I suggest you stay away." Lanis looked up and chuckled. "The scene will be quite spectacular in a little while."

The three girls quickly retreated, with Flora pulling along Abyss, who was completely oblivious to the danger and intended to simply enjoy the view.

Lanis waited for the four of them to step back a little, then took out a small bottle from her waist and poured the liquid inside the bottle directly into the hole.

boom……

A slight tremor came from beneath my feet.

Lanis didn't stand still; instead, she took off running. Her smile widened, as if she were waiting for some kind of revelry to begin.

Rumble!

A massive explosion erupted from the ground, blasting a small hill, over ten meters high, into the sky! A large amount of gas blew away all the soil and rocks from the hill, along with the vegetation, sending them dozens of meters into the air! The tremendous shock caused Lanis, who had just escaped the danger zone, to fall to the ground with a thud, bursting into laughter.

"Don't rush, don't rush! There's another chain explosion!" Lanis laughed as she pointed to the spot on the hill that had been blown open.

Boom!

A tremendous metallic clang rang out, and a steel plate, at least twenty or thirty centimeters thick, flew up from the site of the mountain explosion! This heavy steel plate flew dozens of meters to one side, crashed to the ground with a deafening roar, kicked up a cloud of dust, and embedded itself directly into the ground!

"The treasure vault is right here! Nobody! No thief could have dug through such a thick vault! Only my bomb could have done it! Look! That stuff is pure gold!" Lanis clapped her hands and laughed. The explosion seemed to have ignited her passion, making her extremely excited.

Some dust and plant debris were still falling from the sky, but Abyss casually used wind magic as an umbrella to block the falling objects. He and the three girls ran to the flattened hill and looked into a deep crater below the ground.

The deep pit is actually a box made of extremely thick iron plates, with a cube made of pure gold placed in its very center, shining brightly in the sunlight.

This cube doesn't look very big, but anyone familiar with gold could tell just how heavy it is. Lanis said it's worth a hundred million Imperial Coins, and that might even be an understatement!

Seeing all this, Leona excitedly buried her face in Flora's chest—the hard times were finally over!

Chapter Thirty-Three: Gylvia's Arrangements

Leona has never been happier than she is today.

She was once a noble imperial princess, and as long as she didn't buy anything too extravagant, she could freely withdraw her allowance from her father's treasury, never experiencing the feeling of being short of money. After being resurrected as a member of the Abyss's familiars, her quality of life immediately plummeted. Although fighting formidable enemies that could be considered her rivals all day long was indeed quite interesting, the feeling of being poor was something Leona always resented.

Now things are much better! Rebecca, the new genius girl resurrected in the Abyss, is not only an alchemical prodigy but also an incredibly wealthy woman! Her huge amount of gold allows Leona to drink her favorite wine and eat the most delicious roast meat every day without worrying about spending it all! Gold is the hard currency of Hay Tver, and having so much gold in hand is equivalent to having an extremely stable source of income.

Not to mention, Rebecca is a master at making money. If this money is entrusted to Rebecca for safekeeping, it will not only not decrease with Leona's eating and drinking, but will actually increase.

My God! This sense of security is second only to when ABC pats my head!

Wait, why would I have such a thought? Leona quickly shook her head.

She felt like she was dreaming when she helped Abyss throw that incredibly heavy gold nugget into the magical catfish's mouth. Rebecca thoughtfully had Abyss pry off a small piece from the large gold nugget, intending to exchange it for some money today. However, even this small piece was quite heavy, probably worth several thousand Imperial Coins.

“This money will be our common property from now on.” Rebecca clapped her hands and tossed the gold nugget that Abyss had pried off back and forth, the nugget making a solid thud as it hit her palms.

"You just handed over your private property like that?" Abyss asked with a smile. Rebecca was indeed extraordinary, handing over her gold nuggets worth 100 million Imperial Coins as easily as handing over a few cents.

Rebecca skipped over and grabbed Abyss's arm: "How can you be stingy with money when it comes to love? Money is just a passing cloud to me, but I can't let go of my destined prince charming."

"Anyway, thank you. Although I have some assets, most of them are burial goods, which are quite troublesome to sell, and I can't sell them in large quantities." Although Abyss didn't care much for money, he was still very happy with Rebecca's funds—after all, he wanted to buy a good piece of land to build his own grand tomb, and construct a comfortable and quiet palace underground. If he had some gold or something similar, it would make buying land much easier. As a token of his gratitude, he reached out and touched Rebecca's hair.

Rebecca's hair was very soft, and she giggled as she was touched, obediently resting her head on Abyss's shoulder.

However, Leona wasn't jealous this time. She was still immersed in the joy of suddenly becoming rich, drooling as she thought about what fun things she could do after this was over.

Flora smiled helplessly, remaining calm—even though Rebecca's petite and charming demeanor was enough to capture the hearts of most young boys, it was clear that Abyss hadn't realized Rebecca was flirting with him.

……

Although Lanis was overjoyed at Rebecca's return, she didn't linger by Rebecca's side. With no reason to stay in Lavoisier any longer, she immediately packed her things and prepared to leave. Since the Abyss and their party were going to visit Princess Gylvia first, she took her leave and returned to her dilapidated manor—the Abyss's magic was quite benevolent, having not touched it yet, and was still supporting the house that had been turned into cheese.

The five people parted ways after agreeing on a meeting place after the matter was over.

Abyss then led the three girls back to the Black Hat Gang's secret hideout. This time, Flora didn't let him continue wearing the dress with a hole in the chest from the battle; instead, she changed him back into his original clothes. Otherwise, returning to the Black Hat Gang dressed like that would be incredibly embarrassing.

Abyss, now dressed as a boy, received praise from Rebecca. When she first awoke, she saw Abyss wearing a dress, looking like a young girl. Now, with Abyss finally back in his boyish appearance, he was even more handsome and closer to Rebecca's image of a prince charming—after all, no fairytale prince appears dressed as a woman.

The four met Jivia in a guest room at the secret base; Jivia had just assigned tasks to her subordinates.

Rebecca didn't recognize the young lady whom the Abyss called Princess Gylvia, but during their conversation, her eyes were constantly darting around, secretly measuring the size of Gylvia's breasts. Sometimes she felt like she had won, and sometimes she felt like the other woman had won.

“You’ve really stirred up quite a commotion in this city.” Gylvia gestured for Abyss to sit down on one of the chairs in the room before saying with a wry smile, “I’ve been hearing explosive news since I woke up this morning. First, you and Titus took down the Sheep’s Eye Gang’s factory, and the Sheep’s Eye Gang leader was furious and wanted to fight you to the death. Then there was the war between the two gangs; the whole city is full of Black Hat Gang and Sheep’s Eye Gang members, and even our soldiers don’t dare to go out.”

“You’ll have to ask Titus about these things, because my purpose in coming here is simply to find her.” Abyss gently placed his hand on Rebecca’s shoulder, who was sitting next to him. “I only accomplished my goal; everything else was orchestrated by Titus.”

“You haven’t introduced this beautiful lady yet,” Jivia said with a smile.

“Her name is Rebecca, and she is a very important person to me,” Abis replied.

“My fiancée,” Rebecca added seriously.

“Ah, his fiancée.” Gylvia raised an eyebrow. She hadn’t expected someone like Abyss to have a fiancée, but out of good manners, she didn’t ask any further questions. In any case, Abyss didn’t seem to have any intention of denying it.

"Where is Titus now? We didn't see him when we arrived."

“Titus has captured the leader of the Sheep's Eye Gang, and he hasn't returned yet,” Jivia said with a smile. “It seems that things will be much quieter in the city now. With the leader in the enemy's hands, the Sheep's Eye Gang's henchmen will definitely not dare to make any rash moves.”

“He really did it,” Abis nodded in satisfaction. “He must be very busy now; I plan to go see him later. What are you planning to do now? Leave Lavoisier immediately?”

Gylvia shook her head and said, "The unrest in the city hasn't completely subsided yet, so we've decided to wait here for two days. During this time, we'll use the remaining money to purchase some good materials. Our people have discovered that Lavoisier has a lot of materials that are suitable for making weapons or armor. If we can buy some back, it will be a great help to our warriors."

“Oh, that’s great if you’re not planning to leave right away,” Abyss said. “Rebecca has some things to do with us, so we won’t be leaving immediately either. We can still travel back together. By the way, I can also arrange for Lanis to meet with you later to see how accurate that fortune teller’s prediction was.”

Leona, who had been sitting there quietly, immediately became restless—the itinerary Rebecca had mentioned was to take them on a tour of Lavoisier as a local, which was her favorite activity.
