Soon, Lin Yaoxie prepared four dishes and a soup. Since Tang Seng was a monk, all the dishes were vegetarian. However, even though they were vegetarian, they were able to eat with great relish because they were so delicious.

"Master, it's not easy for my eldest brother to cook a vegetarian meal, I must eat as much as I can!" Pigsy said as he ate, which made everyone burst into laughter.

After finishing their meal, the group rested early, as they needed to be well-rested for their journey the next day.

"Lin Yaoxie, we haven't had such a life in so long, without monsters and without having to travel around," Tang Sanzang said to Lin Yaoxie.

"Master, you'll get better soon. Once we return from our journey to the West to retrieve the scriptures, you can go back to your Tang Dynasty and become a highly accomplished monk." Lin Yaoxie comforted Tang Sanzang, and the two fell asleep as they talked, sleeping soundly through the night.

The next day, just as dawn broke, the group got up and packed their luggage. A little while later, the old farmer also got up and made them breakfast. After eating, they thanked the old farmer and continued on their way.

It was already the dead of winter, and the river was frozen over. On this day, the master and his disciples arrived at a large river.

Since Lin Yaoxie said those things to Tang Sanzang last time, Tang Sanzang thought that they had been out for a long time and they needed to speed up, so he urged them.

"My disciples, hurry! Once we cross this river, we'll reach the riverside avenue. We're one step closer to our journey to the West!"

"Master, slow down, be careful of slipping on the ice!" Lin Yaoxie reminded Tang Seng.

As soon as Lin Yaoxie finished speaking, the ice on which Tang Sanzang was standing melted, and Tang Sanzang fell into the water.

Lin Yaoxie hurriedly went to find Tang Sanzang, but couldn't find him. Soon, they learned the truth: Tang Sanzang had been captured by a demon.

Meanwhile, Tang Sanzang had already been captured by the demon and taken into the water. Strangely enough, Tang Sanzang was able to breathe freely in the sea and was not affected by the seawater at all.

"Quickly prepare the pot and boil water. We'll eat Tang Sanzang now. I've heard that eating Tang Sanzang's flesh can grant immortality. (Good heavens!) We can live forever by eating Tang Sanzang's flesh today!" the demon said to his subordinates.

"Your Majesty, why don't we wait a few days before eating Tang Sanzang's flesh? If you eat it today, Tang Sanzang's disciple, Lin Yaoxie, will definitely come looking for you. Why don't we wait a few days until the master and his disciples have dispersed before we eat Tang Sanzang's flesh?" said the fish girl next to the demon.

As expected, the demon listened to the female demon and temporarily imprisoned Tang Sanzang.

Chapter Sixty-Five: The Old Turtle of the Tongtian River

"Elder, who are you?" An old man suddenly appeared and asked Tang Sanzang.

Tang Sanzang was startled when he saw the man's appearance, thinking he was an accomplice of the demon.

"Elder, don't be afraid. I am the old turtle of the Tongtian River. Nine years ago, that monster came here and occupied my sea area, and even hurt countless of my family members. I hate him so much, how could I help him!" The old turtle seemed to see Tang Sanzang's fear and hurriedly explained to him.

Upon hearing the old tortoise's words, Tang Sanzang lowered his guard. Just as he was about to speak to the old tortoise, it vanished. It turned out that the demon's subordinates had passed through the area, and the old tortoise had hidden himself to prevent them from seeing him.

On the other side, Lin Yaoxie and Sun Wukong were discussing how to rescue Tang Sanzang.

"Bajie, come with me to the bottom of the water to meet that old monster. Wukong isn't a good swimmer, so let him and Sha Wujing stay on the shore. We'll lure the water monster out, and then we'll kill him together!" Lin Yaoxie said to the group.

Soon, Lin Yaoxie and Zhu Bajie arrived at the bottom of the river. There was a door in the depths of the ocean. Lin Yaoxie guessed that this must be the entrance to a monster's cave.

"Monster, your Grandpa Lin is here! Come out quickly!" Lin Yaoxie shouted loudly at the door.

Soon, the monster and his minions rushed out.

"You overestimating yourself, you probably don't know how powerful my weapon is!" the monster said, and swung the giant hammer at Lin Yaoxie and Zhu Bajie.

Lin Yaoxie was no pushover either. He swung his Thunder Axe and started fighting the monster. Soon, Pigsy joined the fight. Lin Yaoxie deliberately lured the monster out of the water, and Sun Wukong and Sandy took the opportunity to join in. And so, they began fighting the monster.

Seeing that they outnumbered him and he might be at a disadvantage, the monster used a magic trick and escaped back to the seabed. Lin Yaoxie and Zhu Bajie chased after him to the seabed, but they were no match for the monster's speed.

Just as they were about to catch up with the monster, it blocked them at the door. So the two of them stood outside the door and shouted to lure the monster out.

The monster wasn't stupid. Having been tricked last time, it naturally wouldn't come out easily this time, so it hid inside like a coward.

Seeing that the monster wouldn't come out, Pigsy ran to the door, swung his rake, and swung it at the door. But the door not only didn't open, it even developed a bud.

When Pigsy first saw that a bud could be erected, he couldn't resist touching it. To his surprise, the bud suddenly sprayed out a lot of water, splashing Pigsy onto the ground. Lin Yaoxie quickly stepped forward to help Pigsy up.

Meanwhile, inside the monster's cave, the monster was talking to his fish girl.

"Your Majesty, do you still remember the promise you made to me?" the fish girl asked the monster.

"Of course I remember. After we eat Tang Sanzang's flesh, we can live forever. Today is the day of our long and lasting happiness." After saying this, the demon summoned his subordinates.

"How is the situation outside?" the monster asked his subordinate.

"Your Majesty, those two were guarding the gate, probably trying to find a way in. But they don't know that our gates are impenetrable. As for the shore, only Sha Wujing is left. We don't know where Sun Wukong is!" the little demon replied truthfully to their king.

Chapter Sixty-Six: Subduing the Monster

After the little demon finished speaking, the monster was still wondering why Sun Wukong had suddenly left, wondering if he had gone to get reinforcements. He needed to prepare for battle, and was about to pick up his weapon and walk outside when Yu Mei came over.

"Your Majesty, I think Sun Wukong must think that we've already eaten Tang Sanzang, so he's thinking of breaking up the master-disciple relationship. I guess that demon Lin and Pigsy will leave soon, and we can eat Tang Sanzang's flesh in peace!" the fish girl said happily to the monster.

The demon thought the fish girl's words made sense, so he put down his weapon and waited to eat Tang Sanzang's flesh.

Here, Sun Wukong and his companions did not return to their Flower Fruit Mountain as the fish girl had hoped. He felt that waiting for Lin Yaoxie and his group on the shore was not a solution, and he needed to go and get reinforcements.

So, Sun Wukong went to the residence of Guanyin Bodhisattva.

But as soon as Sun Wukong entered, he was told by Guanyin Bodhisattva's disciple that Guanyin Bodhisattva had gone to play in the bamboo forest and would not be back for a while. He was told to wait a while, but Sun Wukong was unwilling to wait.

"If I wait for my master, that monster will eat him. If my master is eaten, can you bear the consequences?" Sun Wukong scratched his ears and cheeks as he spoke to Guanyin Bodhisattva's disciple.

Sun Wukong pushed the disciple aside and headed to the bamboo forest to find Guanyin Bodhisattva. Just then, a black bear came and blocked Sun Wukong's path, but the black bear was no match for Sun Wukong, and Sun Wukong quickly escaped.

Guanyin Bodhisattva's disciples and the black bear chased after them, while Sun Wukong ran ahead, and they continued to chase until they reached the bamboo forest where Guanyin Bodhisattva was.

When Sun Wukong arrived at the bamboo forest, Guanyin Bodhisattva was weaving something with bamboo sticks. Sun Wukong immediately ran up to her.

"Bodhisattva, quickly come with me to save my master and subdue that monster!" Sun Wukong said hurriedly to the Bodhisattva.

But to everyone's surprise, Guanyin Bodhisattva didn't even move.

"You impetuous monkey, why are you so hasty? Wait for me a moment, I'll be right there!" Guanyin Bodhisattva said to Sun Wukong.

At this point, Sun Wukong was in no hurry and there was nothing he could do. Guanyin Bodhisattva wouldn't go with him, and he couldn't knock her out, so he waited for her behind her.

Before long, Guanyin Bodhisattva finished weaving a bamboo basket and was about to leave with Sun Wukong. Sun Wukong couldn't wait to leave, so he followed Guanyin Bodhisattva to the sky directly above the Tongtian River.

0oo is asking for flowers.....

"Lin Yaoxie, I've brought Guanyin Bodhisattva to rescue Master!" Sun Wukong shouted to Lin Yaoxie and the others at the bottom of the water.

Upon hearing Sun Wukong's call, Lin Yaoxie brought Zhu Bajie to the water's surface. Now he didn't have to fight the monster; he could just watch how it was subdued.

Guanyin Bodhisattva tossed the bamboo basket she had just woven into the air, and the monster in the water revealed its true form and was caught in the basket; it turned out to be a carp.

"This wicked creature was originally a koi carp I kept in my lotus pond. Every morning it would greet me. This morning I didn't see it come to greet me. I did some calculations and realized that it had come here and captured your master. That's why I wove this bamboo basket specifically to subdue it!" Guanyin Bodhisattva explained to the group.

"So Guanyin Bodhisattva knew all along! No wonder she is so powerful!" Lin Yaoxie said obsequiously to Guanyin Bodhisattva.

"Alright, you should hurry and save your master!" After saying this, Guanyin Bodhisattva led the demon away from Guang.

Chapter Sixty-Seven: At the Foot of the Western Paradise

After Lin Yaoxie and his companions saw Guanyin off, they rushed to the bottom of the sea to rescue Tang Sanzang. At that moment, the old turtle in the sea also led Tang Sanzang out.

The fish girl hoped that Tang Sanzang and his companions could save her, but no one would pay attention to her. At this moment, the old turtle and Lin Yaoxie met and together rescued Tang Sanzang from the seabed.

After they reached the shore, another problem stumped them: how would Tang Sanzang cross the river? Sun Wukong and Lin Yaoxie could fly across this "four-six-seven" Heavenly River, but Tang Sanzang could not.

"Elder Tang, I can take you across the river. You just need to sit on my back, and I can take you across!" the old turtle said.

Tang Sanzang was overjoyed to hear that the old turtle could lead them across the river and quickly thanked it.

"However, I have a request for Elder Tang. After you and your companions reach the Western Paradise and obtain the scriptures, could you please ask the Buddha when I can achieve immortality? After all, I have been cultivating for over 1,200 years," the old tortoise continued.

When Tang Sanzang heard the old tortoise say this, and since it wasn't an unreasonable request, but just a casual question, he readily agreed. The old tortoise was also very excited to hear Tang Sanzang's answer, and quickly carried Tang Sanzang across the Tongtian River.

After a long and arduous journey, the master and his disciples finally arrived at the foot of the mountain closest to the Western Paradise. Tang Sanzang and his companions thought they could finally reach the Western Paradise smoothly and obtain the true scriptures. However, they did not know that an unprecedented disaster awaited them.

Seeing that the foot of the mountain was desolate with no one in sight and no village in sight, Lin Yaoxie figured there was no one nearby who could provide Tang Sanzang with food. So he left Tang Sanzang with Lin Yaoxie and the others and went to find food on his own to see if he could start a fire later.

Just as Lin Yaoxie was fully engrossed in finding food, a cloud of black mist suddenly appeared ahead, and soon it enveloped the entire forest.

At this moment, Lin Yaoxie sensed that something was wrong, so he quickly found some branches and picked some wild fruits before hurrying back to find Tang Sanzang and the others.

When Lin Yaoxie rushed back and saw that Tang Sanzang was unharmed, he finally felt relieved. He set up a makeshift shelter with the branches he had gathered, then lit more branches and used them to roast some wild fruit, using the remaining fire to keep warm…

Soon, the wild fruit was roasted.

"Master, have some roasted fruit. There are no villages around here, and we can't find anything decent to eat. Just make do with this for now. We'll have something to eat once we get to the Western Paradise and retrieve the scriptures!" Lin Yaoxie said to Tang Sanzang.

Tang Sanzang dared not complain; if he didn't even eat these, he would go hungry. Soon, Tang Sanzang finished the fruit that Lin Yaoxie had roasted for him.

"Lin Yaoxie, your master is a little sleepy and wants to rest for a while," Tang Sanzang said to Lin Yaoxie.

When Lin Yaoxie heard Tang Seng say this, he quickly spread out a blanket they carried on the ground and let Tang Seng lie down on the blanket to rest.

Since it was summer, it wasn't too cold to lie on the ground, although it might be a bit windy late at night. Tang Sanzang fell asleep just like that.

They spent the first half of the night in the cave in peace, but the second half of the night was not so peaceful.

Chapter Sixty-Eight: Tang Sanzang is Captured

In the middle of the night, Lin Yaoxie, who was a light sleeper, suddenly heard a sound and felt something scratching his face.

Lin Yaoxie initially thought it was a mosquito, since it's normal to have some mosquitoes in the summer. However, he quickly realized that his guess was wrong. He suddenly opened his eyes and saw a dark shadow in front of him, so he immediately chased after it.

But the shadowy figure was very fast. Before Lin Yaoxie could react, the shadowy figure had already moved a step further away. Lin Yaoxie continued to chase after it, but the shadowy figure seemed to be playing hide-and-seek with him, appearing and disappearing every now and then.

Lin Yaoxie felt very uncomfortable being controlled. He was always the one controlling others, and no one had ever dared to play him like this. So he became very anxious and lost his composure.

The demon seemed to know Lin Yaoxie very well, as if it knew he would act this way, and deliberately provoked him. And so, the two chased each other for a very long time.

Suddenly, Lin Yaoxie realized he had fallen into a trap, a diversionary tactic by the dark figure. He immediately rushed back to the cave, but it was empty; Tang Sanzang had already been captured.

Even Pigsy, Sandy, and Tang Sanzang have disappeared without a trace.

Lin Yaoxie hurriedly went out to search, but it was dark everywhere at night, and he couldn't find anything or know where to start. So he returned to the cave to see if there were any traces left by the monster.

After returning, Lin Yaoxie picked up a torch and began searching around the cave. Sure enough, his efforts paid off, and he found the claw marks left by the monster. However, he couldn't tell what the monster was from the claw marks.

So when it was dawn the next day, Lin Yaoxie summoned the local earth god and asked him for the name of the monster. Unexpectedly, after hearing Lin Yaoxie's account, the earth god's expression became very serious, and he even seemed a little scared.

Seeing the Earth God's expression, Lin Yaoxie knew that this matter was definitely not going to be easy to resolve.

"Earth God, tell me, what kind of monster is this? If I had known its secrets earlier, I could have rescued my master and fellow disciples sooner," Lin Yaoxie said to the Earth God, his expression conveying a sense of impending doom.

When the Earth God heard Lin Yaoxie say this, he knew that Lin Yaoxie was mentally prepared, so he told Lin Yaoxie about the origin of the monster.

"This monster was originally a mount of a disciple of the Buddha. It followed the Buddha every day and had cultivated for a thousand years. Until one day, this monster stole a treasure from the Buddha. How could a monk steal? The Buddha felt that he had broken the rules of a monk, so he expelled him from the sect," the Earth God said to Lin Yaoxie.

"Does the Buddha know about this? Does he remember having such a disciple?" Lin Yaoxie then asked the Earth God.

"So I knew. After that demon was expelled from his sect, he often went to see the Buddha for the first few years, and he repented to the Buddha many times. After all, he had followed the Buddha for a long time, and the two had developed a deep bond. Later, the Buddha forgave him. Who knew that he would make the same mistake again, so the Buddha expelled him once more," the Earth God said to Lin Yaoxie.

Chapter Sixty-Nine: The Indispensable Person

"Ever since that demon was driven out by the Buddha again, he has harbored resentment towards the Buddha. However, the Buddha was a compassionate and righteous person and did not do anything to him, but only cut off his connections. But the demon was still not satisfied, so he stole the Buddha's prayer beads when the Buddha was resting one day and went to the mortal world to do evil everywhere."
