Chapter 47 Moscow Railway Station
Moscow's train station wasn't as high-tech as Mo Xueyao had imagined.
It looks more like a classical building from the 18th century.
Judging from its exterior, it might look like a classic-style bank or city hall, but it is indeed a train station.
The falling snowflakes cast a pale white hue over everything, making the once vibrant world appear somewhat gloomy and monotonous.
There aren't any tall buildings near the train station; there are mostly four- or five-story buildings, many of which have domes. You can also feel that the walls here are significantly thicker than those in the south.
Since it was in Russia, domestic mobile phone signals were unavailable, but the person who arranged this family reunion had obviously anticipated this situation.
So as soon as Mo Xueyao and the others walked out of the train station with the crowd, they saw someone standing under a pillar with a five-pointed star on top, holding up a sign.
This is the square in front of the train station.
As it is a train station in Moscow, the square was quite crowded.
People could only see the sign being held, but not the person holding it.
"They're all so tall..." Mo Xueyao wandered through the crowd with a frustrated expression. Now, she only had Hua Yinyin by her side; the others had all gone their separate ways.
Being in a foreign country, where you don't know anyone, it's inevitable to feel a little nervous.
Fortunately, the Chinese writing on the sign made her feel a little relieved.
Anyway, just get closer to that sign.
"These people are too tall..." Hua Yinyin stood on tiptoe, but her vision remained unchanged; everything in the distance was blocked by the crowd.
Even the sign that is held high can sometimes be obscured by other people.
The two girls, who were clearly seventeen years old, were like little children just starting elementary school, tossed about in the sea of people, unable to find their way.
"Look, Xiao Yaoyao! A red-haired beauty! She has such a great figure!" Hua Yinyin suddenly patted Mo Xueyao's shoulder hard and pointed to a tall woman not far away who looked very thin even in such cold weather. She was probably about 1.75 meters tall, although she was considered quite petite in the crowd.
“Only you would be in the mood to look at this kind of thing at a time like this…” Mo Xueyao said with drooping eyelids, “It’s more important to find other people!”
The women here all seem to be over 1.7 meters tall, while the men are all over 1.8 meters tall.
This is just the average height; not to mention that people who are 1.9 meters or even 2 meters tall are not uncommon.
Although there are some who are relatively short, it seems that only younger children are as short as Mo Xueyao and Hua Yinyin.
At around 1.6 meters tall, in such a crowd, it's like having half a leg missing.
Mo Xueyao even had the illusion that many people were taller than her even when they squatted down.
She vaguely heard someone calling her, but the crowd was too noisy, and she couldn't quite make out where the voice was coming from.
"Hua Yinyin, can you carry me?"
"Hold you?" Hua Yinyin asked, puzzled.
"Pick me up and let me see. There were too many people just now, and it seems we went the wrong way again. Let me check where the sign is."
"Hmph, I thought little Yaoyao had finally accepted my 'love'~"
"Stop it, stop it." Mo Xueyao shrank her neck in disgust. "You're disgusting, hurry up and hug me."
"Okay!" Hua Yinyin wasn't very strong, but Mo Xueyao wasn't heavy either, so she still managed to pick her up.
"Don't, don't touch me! It'll tickle!"
"Hehe~☆"
"Hey, you!" Mo Xueyao rolled her eyes and tried to straighten up to look ahead.
We finally found the sign that was being held high.
"Go this way, don't go the wrong way."
"Ok."
"Put me down."
"Just a little longer, please~ ya-la-la—"
As Hua Yinyin was speaking, her hands suddenly lost strength, and the two of them almost fell to the ground together.
Falling to the ground in a crowd is a very dangerous thing.
"Phew, you almost killed me." Mo Xueyao patted her chest. "You're already exhausted and you're still thinking about weird things. What's wrong with your brain?"
"Hmm...heart-shaped?"
Mo Xueyao gave her a disdainful look and walked straight ahead.
"Hey, Yaoyao, wait for me!"
After weaving through the crowd, I finally arrived at the sign with Chinese characters on it.
Upon closer inspection, it became clear that there was no one holding up the sign; rather, the sign was simply standing upright on the ground, being supported by someone.
Come to think of it, it would be exhausting to keep holding it that high all the time.
"Oh, you're here. I thought you were lost," the father's slightly teasing voice came through the air.
The worry on the mother's face gradually disappeared, and she returned to normal.
They were the last to arrive; everyone else had already arrived by then.
The sign read "Mo Family Birthday Celebration" in Chinese, which is why Mo Xueyao was immediately certain that this was the right way to go.
There are other people who haven't arrived yet, so the person watching the sign can't leave.
But others will be responsible for taking them to the countryside outside Moscow.
Of course, the van couldn't be parked directly in the square in front of the train station, as it was far too crowded there.
"Come on, everyone, follow me. I'll take you to where we'll get in the van." A man who looked to be close to fifty years old smiled and led the way.
"Xiaoyao, call him Second Uncle," her father said to her.
"Hello, Second Uncle."
"Hello, Uncle," Li Wanyan greeted in return.
"Then what should I call you? Second Uncle?" Hua Yinyin scratched her head.
"Just call me Second Uncle, haha." Second Uncle laughed heartily. "So many people have come this time. It's been so many years, everyone's children have grown up so much. Whose child is this?"
He was referring to Mr. Xue.
“This is my sister’s son,” Hua Yinyin’s mother explained. “He’s also here for a trip to Russia this year.”
"Oh, they're family too, so just relax."
“Okay, Second Uncle.” Mr. Xue smiled.
He wasn't being reserved; he was just observing other things around him.
After all, this is a foreign country with many different customs and styles. Isn't the point of traveling abroad to see the different ethnic groups, cultures, and styles?
After walking two streets, a van was parked in a temporary parking space on a slightly vacant side of the street.
This is a camouflage-painted van, making one wonder if it's a civilian vehicle retired after the war.
"Oh—this is a classic minivan." Mr. Xue placed his hand on the vehicle, which was slightly covered in snowflakes. "It's a four-wheel drive, isn't it?"
"Haha, that's right, young man, you know about these things."
"I am more interested in military applications. This vehicle can be used for both military and civilian purposes. It has a high load capacity, low cost, and wide range of uses. Many people in Russia will choose it."
Mo Xueyao couldn't see anything special about the car; she just felt that it was square and had sharp edges.
Although both are vans, the ones in China are round, while these are rectangular.
It should be able to seat about eight people in total, but of course, more people can sit if you squeeze in.
Excluding the driver, there are now exactly eight people on Mo Xueyao's side.
Fortunately, the girls are petite, so even with luggage inside, it didn't feel crowded.
"This car... is so rudimentary."
"Haha, as long as a car can carry people, that's fine!" Second Uncle laughed a few times and said a few words to the driver in Russian. He also turned around and said a few words with a smile, although most of them could not understand him.
Apart from Mo Xueyao's father and Hua Yinyin's father.
However, their Russian was also very amateurish; they could only have simple conversations and were far less fluent than their second uncle.
“Your second uncle does business in Russia.” As if seeing Mo Xueyao’s confusion, her father explained, “That’s why he speaks Russian well. We’ve only been here a few times, so it’s good that we can speak it.”
The car's interior was very basic, or rather, there was no interior at all. The seats were hard to sit on, and everything was manual.
Everything is geared towards being cheap and simple.
Many minivans in China do not have power windows, and this one is no exception.
Mo Xueyao shook the door handle and rolled down the window; the feeling was quite peculiar.
Simple and direct, is this the Russian style?
“Nie Erpu Ruwaide Pulong, Wu Ju Puli Qu.”
The driver said something that was so jagged that it left everyone bewildered.
Although Russian and English both belong to the Indo-European language family, they sound quite different.
At least I can understand most of Latin, but Russian, which belongs to East Slavic languages, is really too difficult to understand.
It's as magical as an alien language.
But foreigners probably feel the same way when they hear Chinese, right?
"Huh?" The words were spoken too quickly, and the father didn't understand at all.
So the other party repeated it again.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
"Oh... Xiaoyao, don't open the window, it'll be cold, that's what you mean," the father said, turning around.
