Genus stared coldly at Edward, a look that only deepened Edward's gentle smile. He possessed this kind of gaze all too quickly; throughout the organization's Antarctic network, many personnel observed test subjects with this unbridled, absolutely rational gaze—a gaze that those bound by rules and regulations could never possess!
"Monkey...you have five minutes left to waste..."
The elderly Asian PhD spoke very slowly, as if he didn't even have the strength to utter a complete sentence.
"Dr. Genus, on behalf of the organization behind me, I extend an invitation to you to participate in academic research. You will be joining that great man's great cause as one of the heads of the seven basic disciplines of biology. This is a rare honor for a newcomer."
“A waste of time.”
A disdainful sneer appeared on Dr. Genus's wrinkled face. A monkey is just a monkey; even the most advanced monkeys have only so-so intelligence. Academic invitation? Backed by an organization? Too many people have tried to swindle him under various pretenses, even the most advanced monkeys are no exception.
Just as Genos was about to see his guest off, his hand, which he was about to raise, suddenly froze in mid-air.
"Um?!"
A sharp glint suddenly flashed in his cloudy eyes. The reception room's network system had automatically activated without the owner's permission, and a pale blue hanging projection screen was displaying lines of text. Research data that should never have been known to the world, completely isolated within the local area network, was striking a chord deep within Genus's proud heart with every page.
In the course of these experiments, which clearly violated international conventions, laws, and ethics and were classified as crimes against humanity, the person in charge of each one was the same name:
Kinos.
But these weren't what truly horrified Genos. Even if the network system were breached, it wouldn't matter. What truly stirred his emotions was an inconspicuous company logo. As if deliberately giving Genos time to process this, Edward slowly continued speaking after a while.
"When the organization was conducting research on the effects of solar wind on the human body outside the atmosphere, it provided you with data support in the area of human modification. The head of the biology department at the time, who was also your mentor Dr. Knos, signed an agreement with you under the code name Z. I believe I don't need to elaborate on the contents of the agreement."
The white man remained smiling, maintaining complete control from beginning to end.
The organization's contributions are expected to yield results.
It's you!
An organization that exists like a ghost first appeared twenty years ago. When governments around the world were in a state of collapse and shutdown, this organization used its abundant resources and unimaginable foundation to attract a large number of top scientific researchers, and then quickly launched a series of extremely convenient and low-cost technological products.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, governments around the world managed to resolve the chaos caused by the emergence of strange people and superpowered individuals, even when they had lost control of the situation.
After engaging in some unknown exchange of interests with various countries that maintained organizational order, this organization retreated into the depths of darkness.
All traces and information about them have been altered and erased. Only those who personally experienced the gatherings and discussions back then retain the truth in their minds.
Hiding doesn't mean disappearing.
The organization remains active in the shadows, conducting cutting-edge research into freaks, superpowered individuals, ancient martial arts, and the planet's species evolution. Occasionally, information leaking from within the organization can cause a sensation in the scientific community. Understanding freaks, analyzing them, and fully unraveling their mysterious connections to ancient species are crucial for allowing chaotic human civilization to continue its journey through a distorted and deformed world.
"It seems you have made your decision."
Edward glanced at his watch and realized he could finally squeeze in some time to have a cup of coffee.
“An organization that believes the world is seriously ill—your arrogance is unprecedented. I’m curious to know what kind of world you see, and what kind of transformation you want to make it into!” A surge of strength forced out of his withered, aged body, and Genus stood up, his speech no longer broken and intermittent.
"A wise move."
"Now you can tell me! What do you want me to do?"
"You are an expert in human research," Edward complimented casually. This was, of course, obvious; if he weren't an expert in various fields, he wouldn't have been selected by the organization. "The issues of rejection in human modification and the comprehensive research on human cloning are currently the organization's top priorities! These happen to be your strengths, and the organization hopes you can contribute your talents!"
"Have you researched it to this extent?"
The familiar data changing on the suspended light screen caused Genos's expression to change again; the data provided for these two projects was nearing completion!
The real purpose lies in the terrifying realm that lies behind it!
A realm belonging to God...
"At least tell me the name and philosophy of the organization."
"Remember this name; it will surely be remembered by the world in the future." Edward stood up, tapped his frameless glasses, and reported the progress of the organization's mission on the lenses.
Shinra!!
"The world has become sick, and we will never think that the world should be this way. It is time for the world to understand that it is no longer us adapting to it, but it adapting to us."
Chapter Two: The World Before the Sword Was Drawed
Shinra
The company's founders were extremely mysterious, almost all of them living anonymously deep within the dark web. With foresight, they anticipated the series of devastating consequences that would result from the emergence of freaks and superhumans, ultimately deciding to form the Shinra Council to counter the impending wave of change!
Twenty years have passed, and the first members of the Shinra Council have resigned one after another.
The vast majority of them have not revealed their identities, maintaining that fascinating mystery.
Although they remained behind the scenes, their outstanding personal charisma, their willingness to take full responsibility, and their exceptional insight captivated all Shinra Company employees. Even though they have retired, their prestige remains undiminished, and it is widely believed that only the Shinra Conference can continue to uphold that spirit!
The current chairperson of the Shinra Council, who is also the only one elected by the original Shinra Council members, is an extremely young woman.
[Shinra Chairman] Yomi.
This [Shinra Chairman] was originally the head of the Armed Forces and a researcher in the Biological Department. She bears traces of her involvement in the vast majority of Shinra Corporation's combat prototypes. She is also said to be a direct relative of one of the original council members who was specifically responsible for providing theoretical guidance on advanced technologies.
As the Chairperson of the Shinra Council, she will undoubtedly take over the reins of Shinra Company without any issues. Even if there are some dissenting voices, they mostly question Yomi's abilities rather than whether her succession is legitimate.
In fact?
In fact, the first Shinra councilor never existed; it was just a colossal lie woven by someone and some system!
Interestingly, Huang Quan, the very source of the lie, persisted in believing it to be true, ultimately justifying his ideals with tangible results. Such actions shouldn't be called lies, but rather, a set of principles! Twenty years have passed, and the Shinra, having accumulated strength over time, awaits its opportune moment!
An opportunity to change the world once again!
Twenty years have passed, but it seems that it has had no effect on Huang Quan.
This woman, blessed by the heavens, still possessed a youthful and fair complexion, untouched by wrinkles or even the marks of time. If there was any change, it was only in her eyes. They had transformed from vibrant and captivating into a deep, unfathomable crimson, possessing a mysterious, almost magical quality that made one feel as if being dragged into a blood-red abyss.
Sitting in his office on the top floor of Shinra Corporation, Huang Quan lazily propped his head up and gazed ahead through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows that let in excellent natural light.
"Limiter theory, that's interesting."
If one could magnify Huang Quan's pupil lens, one would discover that her red pupils are currently displaying multi-layered suspended information walls in different layers.
One layer contains detailed research information about Dr. Genos.
"The theory that all living things have a limiter is precisely what restricts the endless tendency of species to become stronger. If the limiter could be opened, it would be equivalent to the transformation of mortals into gods. This theory is very much in line with my own difficulties in awakening."
Wearing a researcher's white coat, Huang Quan habitually tilted his head as he pondered.
Her brain was connected to the computer cluster at the bottom of the Shinra Corporation's underground complex through a special method, making her almost equivalent to the core of Shinra at this moment.
"Given such a uniquely advantageous environment in biology, progress is still unacceptably slow. Eccentrics, superpowered individuals, and ancient martial artists—their power can easily overturn the laws of physics and alter the course of the world, yet our understanding of their true nature remains insufficient..."
These special groups boast that they have infuriated scientists, but they have never thought of standing on the shoulders of giants to see the essence of things.
Huang Quan had contact with strange people.
She has dissected, modified, and experimented on countless freaks, and dealing with them has left her feeling utterly bored. Lost in the power of their animalistic instincts, they have virtually no interest in exploring the true nature of power; dealing with such individuals is as uninteresting as crushing mindless beasts.
With the successful progress of the gene loading and divine weaponry research within Shinra, the monster crisis that required Yomi's personal intervention has been gone for many years.
For twenty years, I have not tasted defeat, and my sharp blade has never been drawn.
For Huang Quan, it is an indescribable loneliness.
In a state of weariness, and with a touch of madness, Huang Quan approved some of the previously forbidden projects related to human research. In terms of creation, the people of this world lacked stamina and hadn't found the right direction. In terms of destruction, they were too superficial, having never witnessed true, overwhelming power.
"Once breakthroughs are achieved in the seven basic disciplines, the physical evolution of the three carriages must begin." Huang Quan, with her deep gaze, was surrounded by two energies, bright blue and crimson, that flowed around her with unusual gentleness. Under her control, they were like fish swimming in water, agile and skillful, perfectly natural.
Magical energy, sword energy.
For Huang Quan twenty years ago, the ability to simultaneously wield both the [Demon Contractor] and [Sword Master] external armor was an unattainable level. Furthermore, the ability to manipulate energy at both the macroscopic and microscopic levels, fulfilling different rules, was beyond Huang Quan's imagination!
However, Huang Quan, whose power has now reached a state of perfection, has achieved an extremely terrifying level in controlling that power.
Since she started getting stronger at a rapid pace, there has been no one who would even ask her to draw her sword, let alone use her full strength.
As the red and blue energies were intricately intertwined and interacting, a third force suddenly emerged from these two energies, which contained enough power to silently destroy the building!
Cherry blossoms!
The emergence of this third force, while maintaining a dynamic balance and restraining all the destructive energy, instantly increased the difficulty tenfold! These are three completely different energies, each with entirely different properties in appearance and essence. Let alone such a clever entanglement, even coexisting at close range would be extremely difficult!
[The Wandering Samurai]!
The energy of the third profession is a new type of energy that produces mysterious effects after being transferred to the human body. According to the [Wandering Warrior]'s own name, it has a very fantasy-like feel: internal force.
The two originally calm energies quickly became unstable and began to vibrate violently as internal force was applied!
Seeing the situation was not good, Huang Quan immediately withdrew the support of the three forces and used magic energy and sword energy to annihilate the internal force before the unstable energy could erupt! After doing all this, Huang Quan slowly breathed a sigh of relief. She did not want to destroy the building because of her momentary impulse and not being in a safe laboratory.
After a moment, a command in Huang Quan's crimson eyes transformed into a data stream and was transmitted to the people below.
"Help me contact Banggu, under the name of the person who passed down the Scattered Cherry Blossom Sword Technique."
Chapter Three: The Scattered Cherry Blossom Sword Master, Mado Yomi Appears!
The Scattered Cherry Blossom Sword Style—this school of swordsmanship truly exists in the martial arts world of this world.
But unfortunately...
The successor of this school of swordsmanship perished during a monster rampage. Shinra Company employees, responsible for humanitarian relief efforts following the monster disaster, recorded this information and uploaded it to the company's database. This information happened to be noticed by Yomi, who noticed some characteristics of their swordsmanship style similar to those of the "Wandering Samurai."
For example: using both sword and palm, wielding two weapons, and sword flourishes resembling falling cherry blossoms.
Huang Quan, who had always wanted to infiltrate the martial arts world after the monster, withheld this identity and packaged it with Shinra Corporation's energy, making it one of Huang Quan's several backup aliases.
This pseudonym is quite active, frequently exchanging martial arts knowledge and greetings with various schools of martial arts through letters. Huang Quan himself also often changes his image to attend martial arts gatherings as a disciple of the Scattered Cherry Blossom Sword Technique. During this process, Huang Quan, who has shown considerable strength, has made contact with Bang Gu, the grandmaster of the Flowing Water Rock Smashing Fist in the martial arts world, though their relationship can be considered a casual acquaintance.
Creating alternate accounts is a bad habit, but Huang Quan can't break it.
The Scattered Cherry Blossom Swordsman, Mado Yomi.
Her face was clean and serene, always carrying a gentle, mature, and tolerant smile. Her long, black hair was styled into a single braid that draped over her right shoulder, and she wore thick, old-fashioned black-rimmed glasses. By every aspect, she appeared to be an extremely conservative and traditional young woman.
Walking down the street, you wouldn't attract any attention at all.
Thrown into a crowd, it would vanish without a trace in the blink of an eye. Compared to Huang Quan's exceptionally conspicuous true identity, this disguise was so ordinary it was almost shabby; no one would ever imagine that the two vastly different identities of [Shinra Chairman] and [Scattered Sakura Sword Master] were actually the same person.
Flowing Water Rock Shattering Fist Dojo.
Perched atop a high mountain, the ancient training ground echoes with shouts that reach the heavens. Even a young girl with braided hair, still climbing halfway up the mountain, can hear these energetic and passionate shouts. It's as if the fervent sounds of training infect her own steps, making them lighter and more rhythmic.
"Whoa! Water flows and rocks crumble!!"
A powerful punch slammed straight into the dark, damp rock face, shattering large patches of moss into dust! The blow was as if striking a gelatinous substance, leaving a clear fist imprint on the rock face. With a flick of the wrist, the crushed rock dust was flung away!
The man with the bizarre hairstyle, his hair sticking up on both sides, looked at his new marks on the rock wall and, while adjusting his breathing, smiled from the bottom of his heart, proud of his strength.
